I can happily say that Sheffield Hallam is a great university. Pros: - Good range of courses. - lecturers/doctors that have solid experience in their fields. - Very close to town centre which is incredibly useful. - Decent student union with some fantastic societies. - big bonus at least on my course is the option of paid work experience for a year which a lot of unis don't offer. Cons: - 1 of my lecturers was garbage and I was better off just catching up from lecture notes, not ideal. - labs (at least computer labs) are a bit dated compared to some of the more prestigious unis. - feedback on work is oftentimes not very insightful. Don't let the cons put you off, I had to really pick my head to think of some. It's a fantastic university oftentimes gets a lot of stick for having to many students that focus on nights out more than their studies. If you crack on you'll love it!
Sheffield Hallam is a great university, it has multiple building all of which have good facilities.

Really great and welcoming university. After just completing my first year studying Sociology I couldn't be happier that I chose SHU; all the lectures are really supportive, friendly and approachable. The course is relevant and topical where it can be and this is futher supported by the fact that SHU has a large number of lecturers that are active in their field of study. I've made plenty of good friends whilst studying here and am looking forward to 2nd and 3rd year.
Far too much group work integrated into the course. Wish I'd chose another university.

I am not the best example of an active member of the university but I know it's all there. I think there could be improvements to how people can get information about societies etc after fresher's fair because if you don't attend that circus I honestly don't think they offer other avenues apart from online. So try and be braver than me to make the most of what is on offer and attend as many of the fairs as you can.
Great central location for uni, lots of help available if required and lots of clubs to get involved with.

Student Union barely bothered with our course, other than the Nursing Society team, more bothered with playing rugby than supporting students? Academic support from University is great though. Collegiate Campus is a great place to study.
Sheffield Hallam was the perfect choice, I wouldn't have rather have picked anywhere else! It's a very sociable university that promotes having fun and making as many friends as you can throughout your time there, whilst supporting your studies to ensure you achieve the highest possible degree you can. Sheffield Hallam also has evert facility you may need during your degree. There's a club/society for absolutely every past-time/sport. Varsity is the biggest sporting event of the year and is fun for everyone to get involved in (even if you don't play sport!). Friends from all other unis come to watch the Ice Hockey that completes the Varsity event, which is followed by an epic night out where everyone from both unis (Hallam and Uni of) enjoy together. It's location is perfect for students, centre of the city and close to everything! Everything is within walking distance from each other, making it the perfect choice!
Some students here are chilled out, interesting, clever and mature whereas some still act as if they are 15 years old and have only just discovered what drinking is... anyway, it’s a beautiful little city and the uni is modern, full of life and welcoming. Not too far from Uni of Sheffield so it’s easy to mingle with students in both uni’s. It’s a really chilled out place to study, you make it what you will of it! The friends I’ve made here are exactly like me and we’ve found a lovely little cafe/restaurant by the Graves Art Gallery where we chill out and then there’s all sorts of really cute pubs and vintage shops that we spend our weekends at. I moved to Sheffield with my boyfriend and we’ve found some gorgeous little restaurants and date places. There’s so much to do in sheffield! Definitely check it out, Sheffield Hallam is definitely worth it - lots of interesting people, the teaching is absolutely brilliant and the help services are there to help with everything.
My experience at Hallam was awful, I had several lectures that were rude and very unhelpful and I was denied help from a couple of them on several occasions. Some of the building are very fun down and even dirty. I felt very alone through out my time at Hallam and left feeling very low and had lost all my confidence.
Sheffield Hallam is a great uni but have areas that could be improved. As a disabled student talking to the disabilty support in a drop in session is like talking to a brick wall and they don't know what they are doing as it took me 3 months to get support after apprently sorting it out in may.
Fantastic university, cannot fault! Best decision I made and I’m so glad I stayed on. They have helped me in many ways and not just academically. Staff are all lovely and completely helpful

Enrolment process completely shambolic even when I had all the documentation and DBS check in advance. No proper induction. No support services for PGCE students available outside of school hours. No willingness to resolve major issues with placements. Then someone decided not to mark my last assignment despite it being submitted correctly and on time so I can't even get academic credits. SHU have wasted a year of my life and £9k. AVOID
Sheffield is a great city,with loads to offer
Sheffield Hallam is a very poor university if I could go back and choose my uni's I would avoid this place at all costs! Lecturers are terrible and not supportive in the slightest whilst the actual facilities shockingly poor. However, the nightlife in Sheffield is really good as are the societies. Sheffield itself is a lovely place to live and is inexpensive. I recommend the city but not Sheffield Hallam University!
Absolutely Unprofessional! My academic transcript clearly showed my dissertation score. Nevertheless, they didn't bother looking at it and they wrote to me that my application wasn't sufficiently completed. I replied and explained how to find it. Yet, they ignored my reply, never got it back to me, never made an apology for their negligence. Avoid this educational institution guys! Several better universities for us to apply.
Really enjoy coming to uni here. The staff are so helpful and so nice. The facilities in the newer buildings are better than the older ones but that is to be expected.
Nice campus, a bit of rivalry with (the better) Uni of Sheffield. I didn't realise that this uni had a bad-ish reputation otherwise I would have picked something else as I had the grades to. It seems like Hallam get all their students through clearing as many that I've talked to didn't get the grades required to get in

The campus is very modern and big. The wifi is okay good and bad in places. The library is amazing!!
All of the above are great albeit far away from each other. If you have any lessons or lectures in collegiate then good luck travelling from there all the way to city campus.

The University provides students with lots of free connections to training materials and courses from professional websites that are useful for supporting a student when working on their degree, they also have many high end computers and advanced facilities related to computing and games development in particular. The student union is not very large but it is quite active and many societies exists that students can join - I was not a member of any particular society The career service was very good at providing students with connections and opportunities available in many companies looking to hire either graduates or students for a placement year. The University's internet service is very reliable and speedy.
Sheffield Hallam University has plenty of campus' for each subject and has loads of friendly staff and people there. Everyone is really helpful and there's always plenty of activities to take part in.
The problem with SHU is, no-one really wants to be there. SHU's academic rating is so low, it's likely a hindrance to your career to admit working there... so staff leave at any opportunity. All that seem to be left are incompetents. IT services were laughable ... no exaggeration, 1 day out of 8 they just wouldn't work; disinterested admin staff making the most basic tasks impossible; the facilities were all poorly managed and geared around making money from you ... but the 'academics'?! They'd be absent, they'd just leave (no fewer than 3 lecturers left from my course alone in 1 year), they'd be ... incoherent (the head of my department had such poor English they were indecipherable) or, frankly, stupid - their notes often made no sense of were factually ... like a_quick_Google_from_my_phone, factually *wrong* Nice people and Sheffield itself has loads to be proud of - but SHU (not to be confused with Secure Housing Unit in prison) was a waste of 2 years and 7 grand
Huge range of societies up for offer. SU is quite small. Free Wifi everywhere.
Its all based in convenient places and the libraries are spacious

Printing is way too expensive for £9K a year... very good facilities, careers service is really useful, the SU is tiny compared to others and the drinks aren't very cheap (may as well go to a pub), food at uni is quite expensive, like nearly 3 quid for a sandwich, staff are friendly and supportive. Language classes are available to students but cost a lot. Not a very big range of societies to choose from compared to other universities. City centre location is excellent, very difficult to park anywhere that's cheap though

Nice and modern city campus with a great social vibe about it, high variety of learning facilities and a great SU to suit.
Very little green space was my first reaction. There are a lot of clubs to join but the bar at the SU is pretty poor beside from on quiz night when there is not a seat in the building. The library is large and very confusing, books for my subject where dotted about on all different floors and places. The library is open 24/7 which does really help and there are many different working areas for different needs.

Really like the uni and facilities etc. The wifi doesn't work on campus and the lifts can be quite slow but it is a great uni to study at.

Fresher's week is crazy with free stuff being thrown at you, the City Campus has a number of places to eat all of which are great value, The union bar is very nice but it's a shame it's not open on Sundays.
The uni itself is fantastic, almost everything they offer helps you improve your employability. The library is fantastic and accommodates all types of students, quiet or loud or groups, for any kind of project. Essay writing, group posters, silent reading; whatever you want to do, you can do in the Sheffield Hallam Library. Also the automated renting system is fantastically impressive.
Only visited the campus a few times so far but nice and modern, can't date other facilities as not yet used then
I enjoy the university. I am at collegiate campus which is really nice and every where is easy to find, not to intimidating like other universities and campuses. Great to find cheap food nearby and things to do. However, the library is far too small for a university and the food they sell at the campus is expensive (to say they are supposed to be accommodating for students). Could be better.
Love Sheffield Hallam university, the people, the city.. everything. would definitely recommend joining a club or society in first year to make as much friends as possible because it can get quite lonely if you limit yourself to your flat.
I have really loved my three years at Sheffield Hallam. It's a lovely, friendly university, which has challenged me and encouraged me to succeed!
Everything is really good at the university. I am based at collegiate campus doing a sport course. The only let downs were although I went to the sport society opening. It was a bit packed and struggled to find what I was looking for.
Great Uni, could do with a few more computers and the student health centre is very very bad at getting back to me at appointments.
I've not been to the clubs and societies, but people that i know who have say that they're really good. I also haven't yet used the wifi there, but people do use tablets and laptops in seminars and lectures and they haven't complained yet! I'm in love with the uni, it's a great place and has a lot to offer, especially since the library is huge, theres plenty of resources you can use.
So glad I came Hallam as the experience I've had is so far been amazing I'm so glad I've carried on with my sport as if I didn't I wouldn't of made such amazing people. All facilities are kept so well and looked after on both campus
Glad I chose this uni over my other choices. Not the best uni in the world, but it's better than most other uni's in the country. I'd definitely recommend them.
I love Sheffield Hallam University. Although it is not a campus uni, the university building are all very close together, and are right in the centre of Sheffield making a short trip into town very easy. My main fault with the uni would be the students union as it is not a very big building and does not advertise many events, activities etc. too well.

Sheffield Hallam is a great university in an exciting city. From my time there I have found my course to be really interesting and engaging and there are plenty of options to learn more about what interests you. Hallam has a placement year option available for almost every course making sure you are an employable graduate by the time you leave. There is a dedicated careers and employability centre and lots of events and talks throughout the year to provide students with the relevant information and contacts they need to get where they want to be in industry. There's loads of great sports facilities and even our own Sportspark. I have enjoyed my time at Sheffield Hallam so much and I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
Hallam has been great! If you live in sheffield then you will know the hallam v uni of rivalry. I personally got the grades for uni of and still chose hallam. I study languages with TESOL and the course seemed more suited to me as I could base my languages around teaching and it also gives me the option of spending 18 months abroad where I would only have had a year at uni of. The uni is pretty relaxed, they won't chase you if you're not turning up to things so you just need to take that responsibility and you'll be fine! The uni is very sociable and there is always many nights out(it's normally hard deciding where you want to go on a night out as there's normally a couple of club/student nights on each day) the location is great as it's in the city centre and very close to everything. I've not had to once a bus at all. Student union only has a bar which does an awesome smart phone quiz on a Monday but there's that many student nights it's not an issue at all.
