I'm writing this review for a specific person working in the building. Dean who is part of the cleaning staff was excellent at helping cleaning the kitchen in my flat. He was very understanding of the situation and was not judgemental at all. He shared some great idea on how to help students learn to keep their flat tidy, as someone who is older student it is a excellent concept to help younger students how to properly take care of their living space. Overall a lovely person and showed real care

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

The house cleaning team are lovely, Julie, Megan and Heather. Thank you 😊
Nice cleaning team and overall Pleasant staff
amazing and friendly staff, wifi is great and generally good value for money. location is also perfect as it is next to usw and near the city centre, you are not cut off at all. Props to Heather and Julie too, lovely kitchen inspectors
Staff are nice and communal spaces are clean. The fire alarm goes off a lot and sometimes issues aren’t solved very quickly. Rooms are quite spacey and en-suites are nice, kitchen area is good but no dining table which can be annoying. About 8 mins from the physics building and really close the the city centre but most accommodations are quite far so it can be annoying if you want to meet with friends or go to pres at a different accommodation. Overall good but wouldn’t recommend to a friend as it’s quite expensive for what you get.
It's been pretty good, there have been some issues which weren't necessarily in our flat which have been sorted somewhat quickly. Kitchen was inspected by Heather, really nice, also had a nice conversation.
Wanna say heather does a amazing job and helping keeping the place clean
Overall, good experience, very close to city centre
Dean and Heather were really good
really nice building, nice staff heather and dean from the house keeping team have helped us out in our inspections
The staff really are the highlight of this building with their level of support and friendliness, I felt very welcome and able to report any problems I had whether it was to do with the accommodation or just how I was feeling. The facilities in the room are more than okay, lots of plug sockets and drawers, and the desk is huge. However, on my first week I noticed silverfish, leaks and the fire alarm went off more than 30 times.
Great location outside looks run down however i side has been done up well
I’m currently staying at Ty Pont Haearn, and so far it’s been an okay experience. The kitchens and rooms are nice, the bathroom not so much (small shower, with the shower head in an awkward place that u can’t move it much). If you’re considering staying here, I HIGHLY recommend you bring a fan as the rooms get very hot. The staff I’ve met here are lovely and helpful, and a shout out to Heather and Julie who are very friendly and welcoming, and they even offered to take the bins out :] The walls are quite thin, so you’re able to hear your flatmates quite clearly. Overall I’d say it’s a good place for first years, especially with how close it is to the city centre and bus station.
Expensive, very good location, lifts could work better
Heather and July came to introduce themselves and they were lovely! There’s a slight leak in the kitchen from the bad rain but we’ve had people come take and look to help out.

good stay for your first year of uni. great location with USW right next door and the city centre close by. lovely staff, particularly Kieron deserves lots of recognition, and one of the housekeepers Wendy is a legend. overall, Ty Pont isn’t the prettiest or most up to date building, but it’s good enough for a new student and i’m thankful for this building as i’ve met some amazing friends here. on a real one, please get a different system to circuit laundry, they are genuinely the WORST!
The houskeeper Dean is was very helpful in the cleanup of the kitchen, was also friendly and pleasant to talk to 👍
Overall, it was a nice experience with little to no issues.
Summary: I HATED living here. It was the worst experience of my life, and it has influenced me to move out Cardiff and do my Master’s elsewhere out of fear of another experience like this. Heat unbearable in rooms - be prepared to buy a desk fan and to sleep with your window open, except this presents another problem - the pounding music from the arena and the trains that pass by, the screeching of which has literally shocked me out of my sleep on some occasions. Paper thin walls - bad luck if you have a noisy flatmate; and good luck getting security to do anything about it, because they are hilariously incompetent. Inhabited by socially inept losers who wear noise-cancelling headphones to avoid talking to you; the kind that would rather kill themselves than hold a door open for you. Had an unbelievably disrespectful flatmate. Yelled at video games all day and night and used me and my flatmates’ kitchen utensils without asking; often not even washing them after. I WANT COMPENSATION
Its very good for first year as its close to usw campus
i am staying at ty pont only for this one term before summer, but have been really pleasantly surprised by the living standard here. not only is the cleaning team extremely helpful and knowledgeable, particularly Dean and Rosy deserve a lot of credit and praise for their efforts - but the bedrooms are nicely saved with under bed storage space for your luggage, large desk area, en-suite etc. the maintenance and reception team are so handy and fast with replying to emails and answering questions/offering help and they operate 24/7 which is amazing! it’s in a quiet location but a 5 min walk from st david’s and has really great transport links with the stations being a 7 min walk away. i 10000% recommend to anyone looking for a cheaper private halls option but also somewhere that is great value and is safe, quiet and convenient.
super friendly staff, especially the cleaners who are always chatty and kind
My experience living at Ty pont haearn has been incredible, you can’t ask for a better location, very modern and spacious kitchen and bedrooms, staff are so so helpful and friendly - especially Dean, Heather and Rosie who were incredible help with cleaning the kitchen! Thank you so much!
, my experience was highly positive. With its convenient location, well-maintained facilities, and strong sense of community, it provided an ideal living space for students. While there’s room for minor improvements, I would wholeheartedly recommend Ty Pont Haearn, ] to fellow students seeking a comfortable and enriching living experience during their academic journey.and the cleaning department helped us in cleaning the kitchen they very really friendly.
Ty Pont has created a home for me.
Dean, Heather and Rosy brighten up the place and keep it alive
Heather, Rosie, and Dean were really kind and helpful when coming in.
Brilliant Location and the internet is perfect for me as i am doing a Computing course. Cleaners are especially great They’ve assisted us with keeping the place clean and tidy and have helped create a nicer environment to live in. Shout out to Rosie for being a pro at her job!
Dean was amazing and went above and beyond today helping me clean my flat kitchen when I'm there was lack of communication between my flatmates. Thank you Dean
expensive for what it is considering another accommodation around the corner is the same price for a much nicer and bigger flat, social areas, room, bathroom, kitchen, and a gym! staff are generally lovely, helpful, and understanding in my experience. washing machines are circuit laundry plus which is a terrible terrible choice as circuit is a massive pain to use. would be better if rooms had more storage space such as more shelving (which could definitely fit) and especially more bathroom storage. closest big supermarket is lidl, everything else is a ridiculously far walk, but the building is right across from the uni and right next to town which is super convenient. definitely a first year living space only, couldn’t see myself choosing to stay here again, especially considering my loan doesn’t even cover my rent!! if it’s the only choice you have as a first year student then go for it, you’ll be fine, but if you’re able to then go elsewhere.
The reception team is amazing (major shoutout to Caitlin and Luke), always willing to help, events are amazingly planned and it is such a great location being so close to town
Its a pretty good building and the staff are great, always helpful and nice, location is prime being opposite my uni and on the cusp of town. Could not recommend a better accom!
Hi, Thank you so much for the review. We are so happy your are enjoying your time at Ty Pont Haearn!
Outside of the buliding looks awful and the inside isn't much better, The kitchen is really nice and the rooms look nice until you see the bathroom and meet the added room mates which are Silver Fish I have had a huge problem with them in my room and frankly is disgusting, the mattress looks like it hasn't been changed since the place opened and now comfortable at all, the bathroom is very small and not the most appealing and the lifts are always breaking
Hi, Thank you for your review. If you come down to the office we can definetly find you a new matress and we can get the maintence to check your bathroom too. Thank you.
Lifts are never working, don’t seem to be allowed to stay in the same room over the summer, it’s ridiculous how much problems it causes when you want to stay.
All staff are friendly and welcoming. If there’s any issues they help out as much as they can. Lifts can get annoying as they break a lot however they are getting fixed for next year.
Nothing wrong with the staff but resolving issues like lifts not working can take months and the social areas are lacklustre. The rooms are nice and I do feel at home in my space.
Really great accommodation, had a great time here for the last few years
The team at Ty Pont Haearn are excellent! Welcoming, helpful and goes out of their way to help you move in, change rooms if there are ones available and are really flexible! Can't ask for better, thanks guys
really good accommodation, very accommodating and helpful staff. I’ve really enjoyed my experience staying here
Staff is very friendly and offers good value for money
Smashing place to stay, close to everything and staff are super friendly.
Excellent location, super convenient for shopping, getting to class, nights out are convenient without the hassle of paying for Uber as home is just a walk away. Staff are friendly, maintainance issues aren't always resolved super quickly but they're friendly enough about it. I play games online and the WIFI is fab. Occasionally disconnects from some devices for a minute or two but that's rare and it's never affected my PC. There's events regularly with freebies that make your day better like breakfast and snacks. Communal space is small but rarely too busy to sit down, the seats are comfy and well kept. The rooms get super warm so fans are a must, but the sun is great for growing succulents! Solid accommodation, I'm booked over the summer and for year 2 as well!
It’s not that bad tbf, I don’t mind living here
excellent value for money but maintenance is poor. has often taken a week to have our flat door fixed
Brilliant place, close to the city centre and university
Good and practical stay if you’re studying in Cardiff. Staff are always super friendly and always willing to help. Had a couple things go wrong but staff are always ready to help :)
absolutely awful experience, would not recommend anyone to stay in this building, best advice would be to stay away from Unite Students.
This is my first time to live in a student accomadation, I am really glad to live here, where has good and kind receptions, And the location so good that I can buy all the things easily.
S*** hole. Constant maintenance. Don’t go there. Security guards constantly Harass everyone. Railway is next to it far too loud. Constant work and things breaking. The PlayStation they say about has never worked. Rooms are an oven don’t move here unless u have industrial sized fans. Don’t recommend.
Basic halls but perfect location for enjoying Cardiff city centre.
Hated my flatmates. Blasted music until the early morning most nights
Rooms are far to hot ! No ventilation in building and overlooks a railway!
Very good if I was in the atrium, unfortunately had to travel so it wasn't as good as it could have been
Expensive for what it is, all ensuites which is nice. Lifts break quite often which is a pain if you're higher than the 8th floor (there are 21) sound from the railways/railworks and building site are very annoying, especially early morning and at night. Great location, 3/4 beds, really nice and social
Awesome place, staff are very helpful and they all celebrate days such as St George's day :) we have cake and tea today curtosey of Liberty bridge. Very close to the atrium and town centre. Would recommend it to anyway
Its a great halls! They celebrate events like St. Patricks day with cider and biscuits, Hot chocolate in the foyer when its cold and advent calenders and easter eggs for each flat at times of celebration. Lovely management although the night security can be a bit over-powering when its unnecerssary. Overall, great first year experience, I will miss it!
