The staff at cable street are super friendly, and they are super quick to sort out any issues that we've had during the term. All maintenence issues were fixed really quickly too. The location of the flats are amazing and really convenient for the bus station. The bedrooms aren't modern, but for the price they are great value for money! Especially considering the location.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

I stayed as an international student at Cable Street from September to January, and it was the worst experience I’ve ever had. - The room felt like a prison and the window doesn’t open very much. - There were constant false fire alarms, forcing us to stand outside for at least 20 minutes each time and sometimes in the rain. - When I moved in, the common spaces weren’t even properly cleaned. - From October to December, workers were frequently in the apartment to change the fire doors. It was incredibly noisy, disruptive, and there was no privacy. I couldn’t use the shower or the bathroom while they were there. Didn’t feel like it was my apartment. - I received daily messages about maintenance work and access requirements. - The construction left the floors dirty, and workers used the toilets, leaving them in terrible condition. - My room was also very loud because of the traffic outside. A good accommodation is essential for your well-being, and I did not feel comfortable.

Hello. Thank you for your kind words. You are absolutely right! We are in great city location, and although there are compromises students might have to make, we make up for it by our great friendly and highly responsive team, and community feel.
Whilst having our fire doors replaced, the contractors stole £25 from our communal living space.
Hello. Although absolutely true, it is good to mention that it was dealt with within days and your money was paied back to you. The contractors are not Yugo employees, and it was an isolated incident. We expressed our deepest apologies, at the time, as did the manager of the contractors who took full responsibility.
When I saw the price my accomation at Yugo I wasn't expecting much. £100 a week was by far the cheapest accomation I could find in Lancaster however this did not reflect in the quality of my stay. The location is fantastic, across the road from the bus station. My room was large in comparison to other accommodations. Big windows, high ceilings, double bed, sink and mirror. It was perfect for my needs for the year and still felt homely. I would of liked to see some more social areas I've seen at other accoms eg a social room, pool tables The kitchen provides your basics. Oven/hob, fridge freezer, dish washer, washing machine/dryer. Same with the bathroom/shower room. The main con would be the fact the reception is only open in business hours which means you can't collect mail on weekends, bank holidays or past 5pm. The staff were very attentive to any issue we had concerning maintenance or anything else. They're super friendly and so seem to care about your stay and well being.
Hello, thank you! So many positives! - we will happilly take the one negative :) although at least your parcels are safe and delivered even when you are at uni. We also occassionally, when it is requested, can deliver your parcels in your flat so you dont miss out.
A really great place to stay with affordable rent! Makes my student life much easier and memorable
Hello, Thank you for your kind words, we pride ourselves on the community we and our students create here at Cable Street
The management team have been amazing. It can be easily seen that they work hard to improve students’ experience at Cable Street. They reply to maintenance requests and enquires fairly quickly. The room and the flat itself is quite small. The fridge is too small for sharing among five people so needs to be used wisely.
Thank you for your honest review, we are happy that you enjoyed your stay with us.
friendly staff, always setting up cute social events for the students. Quick with responding to maintenance requests.
Thank you for your kind words. we always try to have at least one free event a week, whether it is just for pleasure, to develop student's knowledge or skills, or to help our planet. Josh, our maintenance technician prides himself on how quickly he responds to issues. It even got him a nickname Rapid Response Team :D
I’m really happy with the management of the residency. You can tell that they care about it and want to deliver the best stay possible to the student despite it being in a fairly run down building. My issue with the internet is that every now and then it stops connecting to my devices automatically and I’m not sure if that’s a personal problem but it gets quite annoying, other than that I’d definitely recommend it to people who are looking for a space that tried its best to tend to the students.
Hi, thank you for your feedback. We are happy that our hard work doesn't go unnoticed. As you said, our buildings are older - with one being grade 2 listed building. But what we lack in amenities we definitely try to add on service. When it comes to wifi and internet, that is provided by Ask4. It might be a good idea to contact them and check whether it is similar to your bank card, where every now and then your contactless payment is denied and you have to put your pin in (=security reasons), or whether it is a glitch which can be fixed.
A great range of events arranged by the cable street team!
Thank you for your feedback. We have two students working for us in charge of events, which helps with putting on events we know the students will enjoy. We run range of social crafting events, yoga, different give aways and competitions as well as market day every month where we bring local produce to our community fridge for no cost to students.
Good events, staff and maintenance
Thank you for your kind words. With on site maintenance, we always try our hardest to solve any issues as they arise. We do our best to listen to our students and put on events which are both enriching and fun.
Excellent value for money, close to everything in town and a great management team. I’ve really enjoyed my stay here.
Hi, thank you for your review. We are happy to have you. We always try to deliver the best possible service to our students. Lenka
The staff is amazing. Very friendly and efficient. The best thing is the location. The city centre is just 3 minutes walk.
Hi, thank you so much for your kind words. We are always happy to see our students, whether it is to pick up a parcel, or report an issue. With our on site maintenance we try to solve everything in the shortest possible time. Lenka
One of the best accommodation for students in town as it is right in the city and easy commute to everywhere in Lancaster.
Hi, thank you for fab review! We are indeed just that! - with shops, bars, cafes just a short stroll away, and bus station literarly accross the street! Lenka
Lovely experience staying here and affordable for price. Worth it
Hi, thank you for your review. We always try to go the extra mile in enriching our student's experience, while still keeping our prises competitive. Lenka
Very good, enjoy the events very much
Hi, thank you for your kind words. We do try to put on events with a difference, and those all our students can enjoy. We are looking forward working with our student's interests to organise even more amazing events. Lenka
Pretty good. Cheap. Good experience overall would come back 100%
Hi, thank you for your review. We are happy you are enjoying your time with us, and can see the amazing value we offer. With social events every week, all bills included, and washing machine with a dryer in each flat, what is not to like! Lenka
Excellent experience here wifi is sometimes temperamental
Hi, thank you for your kind words. We are glad you are enjoying your time with us. Our internet provider offers 24/7 assistance, and an app to do diagnostic from your phone. If you are having issues with your wifi, please don't hesitate to contact them. Lenka
Good value ‘decent’ accommodation
Hi, thank you for your review. At Cable Street you are really getting a good value for money, as the rent is reasonable, and everything is included - even washing machine with the dryer in each flat! No more spending money on launderette. Lenka
Great location. Staff is friendly, perfect place if you’ve got a group of friends or don’t mind sharing with strangers.
Hi, thank you for your review. We are indeed in great location with Sainsbury's just 3 min walk, and for bus station you only need to cross the street! Town centre is also a short walk away. It's true you do have to share a flat with 2-4 other students, but I wouldn't call them strangers - I'm sure withing weeks you all be good friends! So whether you are on your own, or already have a group to move in with, Cable Street is the place to be! Lenka
I'm really enjoying my time at Cable Street. All the staff are so friendly
Hi, thank you so much for your kind words. We do try to make our students feel like they belong with us. With social events happening every week (some small, some larger), there is plenty of opportunity, not only to meet the team, but also your neighbours. Lenka
I stayed at Cable Street for 5 months and enjoyed my time here. The location is really central and close to Lancaster attractions, plus the bus station is one minute away and the train station just 5 minutes walk. The room has everything I needed, WiFi was excellent and the staff always friendly and helpful. Plenty of opportunities to meet other people and socialise, as well as peace and quiet to study. I would definitely recommend.
Hi, thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your time with us. The location is indeed one of the best points, with few rooms even having a view of the Lancaster Castle, and some with partial river view. You can really walk anywhere from here - or bike if your prefer. Lenka
I unfortunately had the pleasure of living in cable street for a year and left in July, I can honestly say I. unsure how that building is legal. First we moved into a flat in Block B ground floor that I would compare to a prison cell, we noticed after a week black mould had began to grown in two rooms, an issue so bad it actually turned the pillows I was sleeping on mouldy and gave me throat infections for months after. Once moved into a new flat in Block D we now had a kitchen with no window and no working ventilation, a door that would not stay open and couldn't fit more than 1 person in at a time. Furthermore, my sink leaked in my room and the handy man William believed that the best way to fix this would be to install a cut up milk carton underneath the leak. Office is never open and don't update you when they decide to leave at 3pm every Friday. Homeless people sleep outside on benches (not their fault but still can be scary when screaming all night), room had no window.
Hi, I'm really sorry that your experience at Cable Street wasn't one you recommend. But I would like to inform you, that the whole team has now changed. I'm the new manager - I have a super friendly Sales Assistant Jodie to help with any booking enquiries and other day to day things, and very skillful Maintenance Technician, Josh. Lenka
Excellent services! Bex and the rest of the team are always there for you. With all the amenities within just a few minutes walk. Since you're literally across the bus station and a short walk to the train station, you can easily reach all other places within and outside Lancaster. I'd strongly recommend this accommodation. They have a range of social activities and occasionally provide freebies (coffee, bags, bottles,..). Some gifts including amazon vouchers are available for lucky winners.
I really enjoyed living here, would recommend it to a friend
I lived at Cable Street for the last 3 years and I am overall very satisfied with my experience. The location is great as it is next to Sainsbury's and opposite the bus station. The staff members, especially Bex, have been responsive, friendly and helpful. They organised social events for us, such as a pumpkin carving competition. During the pandemic, the staff members checked up on us and they refunded me when I was unable to return back to the UK. The only negative is the wifi which sometimes didn’t work or kept disconnecting.
As a student living in Cable Street for four years, I really enjoy the time here. The expense is reasonable and the location is perfect with convenient public transport and local infrastructure. The staff members are always responsible and quickly responding to any requests. The public area is always clean and broken appliances are fixed in time. The accommodation also organises events during term time, which is very nice for student social.
This company is reprehensible and completely morally bankrupt. There have been no cleaning services AT ALL for the past year and a half and they have not adjusted their prices for it even though students are paying more for less. Obviously many students, including friends of mine, have been unable to stay or return to the UK and of course TSHC has refused to refund them at all. In addition, they left a FIRE DOOR broken in my flat for 5 MONTHS after I told them, which is a serious fire hazard and ILLEGAL. There have been other issues such as internet problems and the office not being open when it should. Please do not stay here. Do not give them your money.
Thank you for your review. We are truly sorry that you feel we haven't reached your expectations during this difficult year. Due to Covid-19 restrictions and local government guidelines, internal cleaning services have been terminated. This is to protect tenants and staff during the pandemic. All tenants were notified of this prior to their contracts commencing. Please accept our apologies for restricting the office opening hours due to the pandemic. As you may have seen, the office has been operating at normal opening times, Mon- Fri 9am til 5pm since the lockdown ended. We are very sorry that you have not been happy during these unprecedented times. The Student Housing Company have offered refunds to all those who have been directly affected by Covid-19. We feel that we have gone above and beyond to make tenants comfortable and safe, however, this has meant a reduction in some services provided.
The staff is very helpful. The reaction of the company is fast when Covid-19. Even though I plan to stay for 2 years but only stay for 1 year due to Covid-19. The Cable Street still refund me the unused rental fee. Also, when arranging for the moving, the staff is very kind and keep helping for checking my belongings since I am not in the UK. Overall, the experience to stay in Cable Street is very good.
Thank you for your kind review. We strive to help our tenants wherever we can, and we are pleased that we have been able to exceed your expectations.
You can definitely find better accommodation for the price of Cable Street or cheaper in Lancaster. Kitchen cupboard space is a minimum. Due to COVID, I was living in a 5 person flat as a group of 3 and still had to store some food in my bedroom as there wasn't the space in the kitchen. Being practically across the road from Sainsbury's is one of the advantages of living here. As is having the river round the back to be able to walk along. The Lancaster bus station is also across the road, but unless you're concerned about not getting a seat, you should get off/on at Common Garden Street as you can walk from the bus station to there faster than the bus. Unless you're moving in as a group, there is no social experience. Many of the tenants I've come across are International students who keep themselves to themselves. Wi-Fi is hit and miss. You get some good speeds but also frequent disconnects/lag, most noticeable if gaming.
Thank you for your review. We understand it has been very difficult for everyone during Covid times, however as restrictions are now beginning to lift, we are looking forward to hosting some great social events for our tenants in the near future! We have our Annual Summer BBQ at the end of June- make sure you book on & join in! With regards to the Wi-Fi, as you will know from emails communicated, there have been issues with the wi-fi this year. A new wi-fi system is being installed in August 2021, which should eliminate the issue of disconnecting/ lagging whilst gaming. We are really sorry that this has been a problem for you. We are indeed in a beautiful location, having the River Lune on our doorstep, and Morecambe Bay just a short bus ride away.
Really great location in town and next door to Sainsbury's. Lots of the rooms have unique features that maintain the heritage of the buildings. Each room is equipped with ample storage space and a sink. The management team are fantastic and arrange multiple events and competitions throughout the year - there were still fun activities even with the restrictions of the covid-19 pandemic!
Thanks for your lovely review! We strive to provide the best student experience here at Cable Street, and try to create a fun yet homely atmosphere. Our location is convenient as we are so close to the bus station, Sainsbury's and plenty of other amenities! We are hoping that now the Covid 19 restrictions are beginning to lift, that we are able to host even more great social events for our tenants. Hope to see you there!
