Is about 25 min walk to the uni and 30 minute walk from any other accomodation so you're pretty out the way socially. However because of this there is a great sense of community between everyone who lives there. You can't throw any parties as at 11pm the security guards tell you to be quiet so is good if you don't want an intense uni experience. Property management is awful, security guards are rude, maintenance people never do anything (carpet was flooded and absolutely stank and they said it was 'part of the student experience' and refused to do anything about serious black mold issues in multiple flats. The front desk is only open for 1 hour a day and even then the desk is manned by maintenance rather than anyone who can actually help with any issues. Kitchens are nice and homely and WiFi is excellent. It is walkable distance from the town centre and the town of Mosely which has lots of bars and restaurants. Aldi is just around the corner. It is average value for money.
Our room was full of fleas and there was constant loud music all night. Even after complaining no one listened.
My son got allocated this accommodation through Birmingham University and it wasn't any of his choices. I was freaking out because the reviews were not good. We tried to change but couldn't. All the worry was for nothing. The location is convenient enough, my son brought a bike and there is a cycle path all the way to uni it is less than a 10 min ride. Aldi just round the corner is great. The accommodation is old but ok and clean enough. Fairly standard en-suite for an older build. WiFi no problem. More importantly he was in a mixed flat with four others and he gets on great with his flat mates. As Liberty court is a bit out of way there seems to be a good sense of community. It is close enough to The Vale if you make friends there. All in all lesson learnt is that your flatmates are more important than your accommodation and you can make it work regardless of the location. He now says he is so glad he got allocated these halls.
Old and barely functional. The rooms are tiny and it feels like they are about to fall apart. During my entire stay there was maintanence working on doors and flats which caused lots of disturbance. Basically, I wasn't able to study in my room during the day because maintenance was going at it all the time. The reception is open 1 Hour (!) per day, so if you have a parcel or any sort of enquiry that's your window to deal with it. The entrance gate broke down several times during my stay and we had to call the main reception to get in and out of the accomodation area. Location is not ideal, a 30 min average pace walk from uni but there is a shuttle bus going to and from the university but the bus times could be improved. Fire alarm kept going off for no reason and when this happened during a weekend it could take 45 min for security to arrive and turn it off. To top it all off, there were 3 break ins (that I know of) during my stay here. Security is poor and complains
DO NOT STAY HERE. This accommodation is a 30+ minute walk from the uni campus, and 30 minute walk from the Vale/ Selly Oak (where you should stay) where all the student life is. If you are put here on results day don't come to this uni, or find another student accommodation. First year will be a lot better if you stay on the vale, tennis courts, or anywhere you can afford on the vale, its expensive for a reason. Although there is nothing wrong with the rooms, kitchens, staff or facilities, the location is SO BAD it makes this the worst place to stay in your first year in my opinion.
Absolutely terrible. If you want to be woken up everyday to maintenance either drilling or hammering whilst shouting to one another in your corridor, then choose liberty court! The walk to uni is so long, especially in winter months when it's freezing, don't be fooled by the free bus as it hardly runs when you actually need it! People on the Vale pity us in liberty court, I think that says it all? Rooms are small, staff are useless, 3 break-ins in one day. DON'T COME HERE!!!
Liberty court. This was my 5th choice (?) for accomodation and I now know why. There have been break ins (3 windows smashed in one night and security not on sight to help), Alarms at 3am which was going to happen, but security weren’t avaliable until about an hour after the alarm went off. Builders are constantly in my flat and everything seemingly needs to be “fixed”, all of which should have been done BEFORE we arrived. Staff aren’t exactly helpful, office hours are limited. I have been into the common room once - the night I arrived and haven’t gone back since because it feels like a run down youth centre (minus the youth). The bus schedule means you either get to uni an hour early for your lectures, or an hour later than you need to be, as there is no schedule from 12-3 (I get the need for a lunch break but a 3 hour lunch break where there are multiple drivers a day?) Its isolating, when asked where you live it’s met with confusion, because everyone else lives in the vale:(
Firstly, the accommodation is awful. Would not recommend. Walk to uni is far and cold, and even though a bus is provided the bus times are basically during lectures and there is no bus at prime time between 12-3. Also, the first month of being there was countless amount of fire alarms which made living there a headache. Next, the courtyard is really loud and can hear everything from your room. Next, reception is only open 1 hour a day on weekdays which is just rubbish to be honest. Next, if you have a problem, chances are they won’t respond to your email for at a week. Doesn’t have a bar for students to socialise. The common room isn’t even a common room. Rubbish social services. Is very easy for people to get in and out of the gate, despite what security may say which leads me to my last point. There were 3 smashed windows and burglaries in one night, where were security? And also no email or update was posted so it was tried to be pushed under the carpet. Don’t recommend
AVOID putting this as one fo your accommodation choices AT ALL COSTS! 40 mins from uni, completely isolating from the rest of the uni as EVERYONE is on the vale which is another 30 min walk. this made it (personally) extremely hard to make friends as no one can pop over to see u and u basically miss out of that social hub experience of accom (if that's what ur into). when i told people i was at lib court all of they're reactions and faces were the same ...'ooo /: isn't that the one that's really far away?'. the rooms are so basic and bedrooms are tiny. opposite a really dodgy bar where there are always people smoking weed outside and the walk to uni is on a main road so not pleasant and dangerous to do at night. if i knew of the location, isolation and rubbish facilities i would have never ever ever dreamt of putting it down as one of my choices. if u do get it n u think u can deal with the location it should be fine but i found his extremely difficult n inconvenient.
rubbish facilities not value for money
Aldi is close And Aldi is cheap
Just amazing. Super clean and homely and big kitchen and bathrooms
Home from home. Room was cosy and clean and the ensuite was a massive plus. Also free car parking
easy to live here, nice and comfortable. very good social experience as it's communal and the common areas are great to socialise and get to know everyone
Very sociable halls, easy to make friends, the only downside is the distance from the University.
LC is the f****** place to be. Screw the vale. Liberty Court Massive 4 life. #StraightOutaLiberty
40 minute walk away from uni. enough said.
Despite it's distance from uni, slightly negated by the free buses I liked living here. You get to know everyone and I've made friends for life. So yeh. It's ok.
I had a great time there but the location is shocking
Eh... well been here a few days now. Its MILES away from the campus. Be prepared to walk if you want to stay here. The rooms are dead boxy and small. Pershore road is super super noisy. It was nobody's first choice of accomodation and its small so everyone knows each other. THe RA's are a bit useless. You want to get on Union accomodation if you can, as this is private. The tickets are booked so they're Union accomodation VS Private so unless you buy non guild tickets you wont be going out with people you meet on your course. The rooms are nice, the beds are comfy. Theres loads of storage space too. Just dont forget anything when you go out because your 30minutes walking away and at night when your using a taxi that can be super super expensive. Its okay. Not my first choice but it has better rules than victoria hall. We have put posters up in the kitchen and we have two sofas. You dont need toilet or room bins as the rooms come with that. Theres plenty of plugs and the wifi is ok.
A hall which didn't fail to provide a fun filled memorable journey along a year full of laughs cries and plenty of washing up!
Further away than expected. (30 minute walk) Halls itself are good. Social area leaves a lot to be desired
