Where is Sheffield Hallam University Located?
Sheffield Hallam University is in South Yorkshire which is right in the centre of the UK. Leeds and Manchester are its neighbouring cities with London only a two-hour train journey away.
City Campus is just a few minutes' walk from Sheffield train station, and is surrounded by shops, cafés and pubs. Just a 25-minute walk away is Collegiate Campus which mixes some of Sheffield's best bars, markets and restaurants with stunning parks for studying in the sunshine.
Graduate Outcomes
95% of students were in work or further study 15 months after graduating (2021/22 Graduate Outcomes Survey). The University Careers and Employability provides students and graduates with career advice and support including access to thousands of internship and job vacancies.
Facilities
Sheffield Hallam has invested hundreds of millions in facilities, so students can learn in the same environment as they will find in their future workplace. As well as 24-hour libraries and study areas, the University offers specialist course facilities including, a state-of-the-art simulated hospital ward for nursing and allied health profession students and flight simulators to inform aircraft design for engineering students.
What is Sheffield like?
Sheffield offers a friendly community in a big city environment. Students in Sheffield can enjoy a range of exciting music, art and film festivals, as well as stylish restaurants and cosy pubs. There are plenty of independent shops to explore and Sheffield has been recognised as one of the most affordable cities in the UK to live. Sheffield is the UK’s greenest city, a third of which is covered by the Peak District National park. This provides a playground for outdoor enthusiasts and a convenient escape from busy city life.

Hi, thank you for your question. If it's the Robotics Masters course that you're considering at Sheffield Hallam, you'll have the opportunity to benefit from the support of your supervisory team, consisting of a Director of Studies and a second supervisor who has specific interest in your chosen subject area. Also, in addition to carrying out your work independently, you'll recieve research training, Linux and ROS training and you can also opt to undertake training in Matlab, Open GL, InDesign, Illustration and After Effects. Good University, especially with the new buildings like Redmires it is a lot more homey and motivating to revise with the new study areas. The city campus has a great location with its vicinity to the city centre and places like the Cambridge street collective. And the collegiate campus is located in a nice green area not too far from the centre

Collegiate campus is very open and full of life. I personally love the nature and outside spaces

Incredible university! The social opportunities are almost endless, and the support is the best out of any place of education I’ve ever been.

Sheffield Hallam is a lovely place to go to university, it has a caring atmosphere and people in place to help you in almost anything you need. The city itself is a very good location as it’s a big city but not as big as Manchester or London so feels less intimidating.

One thing we really pride ourselves on is the lovely welcoming atmosphere we have here - all of our staff and students are always there to help you if you ever need it.
I am impressed with Simon at student roost Sheffield 3 he is customer friendly , always willing to solve problems and makes sure he does that . He pays attention to detail and he’s a nice person over all

Overall, my experience at the university has been positive. The campus and facilities are well-maintained and meet most of the needs for both academic and social life. There’s a decent selection of clubs and societies to get involved in, although nothing too outstanding. The Students' Union is okay — it serves its purpose but doesn’t particularly stand out in terms of engagement or activities. The Careers Service offers reasonable support, especially when it comes to graduate job opportunities and guidance for further studies. One consistent plus has been the internet connection, which is strong and reliable across most areas of the campus. It’s great for both work and downtime.

I am part of the women’s basketball society and currently going in to my third year of it. I have really felt at home in the society and made loads of friends.

Great uni, the buildings are getting improved and the range of societies and social activities are increasing. The level of education is not the best as there are a lot of strikes

We are really excited for our new buildings to open as we think they are going to be great for our students. We have lots of new classrooms and working areas, as well as lots of great study areas, for those individuals and group study. Our student union works really hard to put on lots of societies and events for our students. We want everyone to get the most out of their social experience here too, so we are always looking for more things to add as well. I’m sorry to hear that you haven’t had a good experience with strikes this year. We try our best to limit the strike action as much as possible, as to not affect student’s learning. I love studying at SHU. the support from staff is outstanding and the facilities are great. the WiFi accross campus could be better but i generally have no complaints about anything. everyone is so kind and supportive I love it here.

An overall positive experience. Difficult to navigate through buildings to begin with, but there’s always someone to point you in the right direction. Great amount of help and support. Great range of facilities. Staff are friendly and helpful - enjoyed learning from my lecturers.

In my first year so my experience is minimum but so far my course is fantastic and my social life is brilliant, a much better experience than school years.

I've loved my first year at Hallam. The SU isn't the strongest - especially considering we've just lost the SU building due to financial difficulties however this does not stop societies and there are many welcoming clubs to join at Hallam. The lecturing team are all very friendly and supportive and the campus is a good place to learn.

The campuses has a lot of place to study outside of the library which is good. The library is still in construction so sometimes it is a bit loud and it's very cold inside. This needs improvement.

Great accommodation , great atmosphere and vibe

We pride ourselves on ensuring that all of our accomodation options are of a great standard for our students and are all well kept and modern. Most have en suites too which is great and we have a mix of flat sizes accross our options for halls so you can choose roughly how many people you would want to share with. We are proud to be able to offer all of our students a room in one of our halls of residence if they would like it where you can live with other Hallam students and it is a great way of making friends with lots of new people. My experience at Sheffield Hallam University has been, frankly, disheartening. While I arrived with enthusiasm and high expectations for academic and personal growth, what I encountered instead was a system that often prioritizes financial gain over student well-being and integrity. From the beginning, there were red flags—misleading communications from overseas agents, inconsistent support systems, and an environment that, at times, felt transactional rather than transformational. For an institution that markets itself as student-focused, the lived reality often tells a very different story. Academic engagement felt shallow, and support services that were promised—especially to international students—often lacked follow-through. In moments of stress or need, the response was frequently bureaucratic and cold, rather than empathetic or solution-oriented. I love Sheffield Hallam, it feels like they really care for their students, there are really good facilities and lots of extra curricular clubs and events to go to. I love the surrounding green spaces, restaurants and bars which all add to the university experience!

Everything is perfect in the campus

We love both of our campuses - we have two lovely campuses, both of which are really close to the city centre and our halls of residence. Our city campus is right next to the train station and is right in the centre of town and our collegiate campus is just off Ecclesall Road which is only around a 20 minuite walk from the city centre. I had a very comfortable and pleasant stay at this accommodation. The place was clean, well-maintained, and had all the basic amenities needed for daily living. The location was convenient with easy access to public transport, shops, and other essentials. The best accommodation in Sheffield by far. The flats are stunning with amazing facilities. Events are hosted often, so money is well spent. Staff are so accommodating and lovely. Maintenance issues are resolved quickly. I couldn’t recommend more.

They are always there to answer emails and help you with anything you need so that you feel happy and confident in your work at all times. Every student also has access to three teams of support - an employability team, a student support team and an academic advisor team who will always be there to help you with anything you need. Sheffield Hallam University offers a great learning environment with supportive staff and excellent facilities. The campus is modern, and there’s a strong focus on practical experience which really helps prepare you for the real world. Overall, a great place to study!

Nice uni overall, some great staff. Lovely aesthetics. Hope they had more resources etc to provide us with also wish they had more funding to give us (bursary max amount is pretty low)
