As a PhD student at the University of St Andrews, my experience has been overwhelmingly positive. What stands out most is the research-focused environment and the accessibility of academic staff. The university has a strong reputation for research, but despite its international profile, it maintains a close-knit and supportive atmosphere where supervisors and faculty members are approachable and genuinely invested in students’ progress. One aspect I particularly appreciate is the interdisciplinary research culture. There are frequent seminars, workshops, and visiting speakers, which provide opportunities to engage with cutting-edge research beyond my immediate field. These events have helped broaden my perspective and allowed me to connect with researchers from different disciplines. The facilities available to postgraduate researchers are excellent. The library provides access to an extensive range of academic resources, and dedicated study spaces make it easy to work productively.
