Very poor quality of education. My experience is related to studying PhD of mchanical engineering after 13 years industry experience. I quit the PhD program because of poor supervision and quality of the course

I studied two years online course in mechanical engineering at RGU. I do not recommend this university for professionals with working experience who want to get PhD related to their speciality because of following reasons: 1. The quality of supervision in my case was very poor. My supervisor did not have enough knowledge and experience to guide me. I was asked by him to attend a conference in Aberdeen related to nano materials that was totally different from my area of studies. 2. I received criticisem from the supervisours in non professional ways such as " Your method of writhing is like a philosopher and not an engineer". 3. The superviors in engineering department do not have suficient work experience and some of them just have published one or two academic papers based on their profile at the university website. 4. The classes in the campus were useless. In general, the tution fee is much higher than the service you get from the university as an non EU student.

Eduroam is more unreliable than that pal who'll say he's game for a night out but always cancel before hand. Pretty fast when you can connect but.

MSc courses are poor. I signed up for an MSc in International business and just before the start of the year 2016/2017 the whole course content was changed from having options to modules to having compulsory modules that are not relevant to IBM. When asked to the course leader what the motives are, she simply claimed that it was because the industry said so. This is a complete lame argument as this course if to create future managers, I have no idea what to do with a module that is aimed at starting a business while my interests are in leadership and yet there is no leadership module. Besides the content of the modules can be related to BA level as things such as PESTEL are taught. Really??? The dissertation is also removed and changed into a lame capstone module that is not even proper planned, even most of the lecturers have no idea what is going on. Also the course leader does not respond to mails......

University itself and lectures are generally quite good and interactive. I went there to complete a postgraduate, however a word of warning, with Oil in the tank, their placement promises now leave a lot to be desired. Which was the point of me applying as they have a great graduate employment rate. Not sure about 2016/17 though, Im a distinction level graduate now and cant get anything, and many of my peers from class are in the same boat. Think they enjoyed the gravy train too much of constant streams of oil linked industry picking up their students, now they have to go out there and actively get them, they are struggling. I'd give this lot a miss for next few years until they realise they need a better plan than oil dependancy.

Worked my arse off and got distinctions. Then in my final year got told that my desertation was to be on a subject I knew nothing about and had never studied there or anywhere else. Telling them this fell on deaf ears. I was promised by my supervisor that I would get loads of help and so very reluctantly went with it. (What a mistake that was). I got no help at all, supervisor was never there. During the consolidation week I made an appointment when it suited her so that I could get to grips with what I was suppose to be doing. She was nowhere to be seen. At 9pm I got an email from her saying she could meet the next day. Next day I came in as soon as the building opened, again nowhere to be seen. Eventually she turned up at 6pm. Again, was of little help. later found out she had been away to a convention getting drunk while I wasted 2 days waiting for her. grades suffered due to having this subject and scraped everything and so got a 2:2 when I was on for a 1st. Now studying elsewhere.

Travelling from abroad I had no idea what to expect, since the first day I felt like everybody was so ready to help. So many opportunities to grab and genuinely can't wait to start another year!
