I have had many good experiences at John Lester - I cannot fault it. Sometimes WiFi can go down but it's not an issue I've found. The management are amazing and friendly, always willing to try and help in any way they can. Great rooms too, and cleaning every two weeks. I would love to live here forever

I’ve stayed with Campus Living for two years of my university life once in Peel park and the other here at John Lester and Eddie Colman, the staff are exceptionally nice and really make an effort with the residents, i was here for around two weeks before the receptionists learnt my name, adding a nice personal touch to the service they provide us here. They have always been kind and accommodating when it comes to any problems although within my time of staying with the company i must say the problems are incredibly rare and minute when they happen. If there is ever a maintenance problem that we know we couldn’t fix ourselves then the maintenance team are also on hand to help out from logging the jobs online to them being there the next morning. The social spaces are full of first years which is always nice to see and get the chance to communicate and connect with so many different people and also getting this chance when it comes to the social events they put on for the residents.

Great staff, they’re very friendly and make sure everyone feels safe and included. Great location close to Salford Uni (5 minute walk) and the shopping centre is right around the corner. Didn’t have any problems at all during my stay. Students living there were also very friendly.

Hi. Thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear that you had a positive experience staying at our John Lester & Eddie Colman Courts.
The lives in the buildings were often out of service and they haven’t been repaired in months. According to the fact that we pay five grand each term, the least you can expect is not to be bothered by a simple thing like the lift! the fire alarm would go off whenever the stove in our flat is on. The stoves are old and the area around the elements are burning all the time. They tricked us once and sent the household to take care of it and later charged me and my flatmates £12.40. We had no idea that it must be paid and they didn’t say anything until we received the email from them a couple of hours later! The showers are clogged and smelly all the time, It is disgusting!!

I ve been here for two years now, I like this place, good range of things to do in the accommodation from social/study rooms, to a cinema room, laundry and gym availability. Location is perfect too with just a couple minutes walk to the local shopping centre and the main bus stops for getting to uni or into the city. Police station is right next to the buildings as well, so it feels pretty safe. Last but not least the staff here is incredibly lovely and helpful, every single one of them!

Really good experience had a lot of fun
The reception staff were very friendly. Room and corridors between different flats were clean. Price for 21-22 was very good. Price for 22-23 was okay. A fairly good value for money for 21-22.

The staff are friendly and helpful! The rooms are nice and there are plenary of social activities to make sure we have a great social experience!

Hi, Thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear that you had a positive experience staying at our John Lester & Eddie Colman Courts.
There’s some mould in the bathrooms due to lack of ventilation, and the kitchens could be kept cooler as food goes off quickly due to the heat in warmer month. The fridges are worse for wear and too small for multiple occupations to store their food properly. The rooms themselves look a bit worse for wear so maintenance in those could be improved. Outside could use more seating areas - picnic benches could be a great addition) and primer/sealant on the ones that are already there as they were recently painted but now have scratches already. Free pool table would be cool. The new improvements have been great so far - the tea and coffee station is fantastic and a great addition to the community. 24/7 gym is great. I’d like to see potentially a small shop for essentials if possible as I think that would be a great addition also.

Hi. Thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear that you had a positive experience staying at our John Lester and Eddie Colman Courts village and will take your feedback on board!
I have been staying with John Lester for two years and the first year wasn’t bad but this year it has been AWFUL! We moved in our flat and the oven and other areas were so unclean you couldn’t see through the oven ! We then had bugs in our fridge which two maintenance men then replaced, thank you to them , the maintenance men are always lovely to talk to and will help with anything however, a couple of days later after moving in we found a cockroach on our wall. I then proceeded to take this further to reception as this is disgusting, we were a clean group of people so the cock roaches we found we not our fault! They fixed this issue by bringing out pest control and then we had to have traps over our kitchen and in our cupboards with our cutlery but we were told we couldn’t touch them as they had “ poison “ on them for the bugs. A few months back we were then failed on inspection because of the oven that was already disgusting and packed with grease, then they made us clean it !

I’m in my second year of staying here and it is in an ideal location. The university is right over the road, and there is a great selection of shops very close. It isn’t the best accommodation, but it has served its purpose for what I need while living in Salford. I’ll be living here again next year too as the prices are decent for what you get

The lift is always broken. Some of the staff are really rude (except Andy we love him). The maintenance guys are lovely but you could be waiting days for something to get fixed. You pay way too much for such a horrible building. The parcels take far too long to collect and some staff are really rude when you ask to collect them. The location is really good though. Bathrooms are like a prison cell and the kitchens are disgusting. The younger guy working at reception with glasses is really rude and needs sacking.

John Lester is a great place to be. I really love the proximity of the facility to campus. What I think should be done to make the place more enjoyable is the size of the bathroom and how they collect the accommodation fee. For international students, the should be a way to take part payment of the fees and spread the remaining over a period of time

Hi, Thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and we will take your feedback on board. Thank you.
Very good! Sometimes have bad communication when saying they will contact you. Apart from that it is okay. Good location

Hi, Thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us although I am sorry to hear you thought our communication could be better. It is something we will look into!
It's a yikes from me. The place makes me sad. It makes everyone's sad. Management has no problems intimidating people and cornering women in bathrooms whilst demanding they pay rent that isn't due.

Don’t trust them! I had a deal with one of the staff that I could pay weekly (over the summer) until my Flst was ready. I had up until the 22nd August however, two weeks before the deadline I got a call telling me that I had to move out. On the same day! This was absolutely disgusting behaviour from them and literally chucked a student out on the street with no valid reason other than the room needed cleaning. Its a good job I had a friends to stay at or me and all my belongings would have been on the street.

NOT ensuite but shared bathroom. Alot of appliances are either out of date or does not function entirely. This includes heaters, shower head and ovens. For the price you pay, unfortunately, you don't even get a vacuum cleaner for your room. It not worth it unless you wish to pay for their other accomodation which is Peek Parker. Overly priced, out of date accomodation. WiFi is surprisingly good and strong and distance to the accomodation is good.
Moving away from home for university was one of the scariest things I have ever faced, but I can honestly say that moving into John Lester & Eddie Colman Court was the best decision I made. As a student who has a disability I found the flat I lived in easy to live in (accessible flat), also keeping in mind the travel time to uni was fairly quick. The staff are absolutely amazing, always happy to assisted with anything I found difficult whilst living there. In my experience living here before covid, there where plenty of activities and excursions planned by CLV. I would defiantly recommend coming to live here, I didn’t regret it
So the hardest thing to adjust to is the noise. It's hard to go to bed in silence as the walls are thin. But the rooms are an okay size and before COVID, the social areas did their jobs well. Silverfish are an occasional problem, but I named them so it's all good. I reccomend doing a deep clean when you move in. WiFi is generally good, and wired connections work great with consoles and laptops. The staff at reception and maintenence do actually care about the residents and will put the extra effort in if you're nice to them. Even though some flats have a different vibe than others i.e cleanliness, I made a lot of my friends here and now that I'm used to it, I'm happy I came here and saved money. (Oh yeah it's dirt cheap so, why complain?) Also before COVID you could play beer pong in the reception area.
Had a good experience there, Lived there for two years- so cant be that bad. Staff are very nice and friendly and were supportive during the lockdown, despite the world nearly ending. It would be better if you didn't have to pay for washing and drying your clothes there, especially for students who spill drinks all over themselves (like me). The social rooms are good for meeting new people and the courtyard is good for day drinking when the weathers nice. Not a bad place to live for you first year.
My experience in this accommodation has been very limited by COVID. Apart from that, I summarise my journey in here as okay.
Having lived in these halls for the last two years, I can honestly say the negative reviews have come from people with unrealistic expectations, and who haven’t used their initiative to actually make the most of the place (within COVID restrictions of course). Firstly, for the location the price is extremely reasonable given the proximity to both campuses and the city centre. Instead of sharing with six or however many others as at PPQ, you share with between 1 and 3 others. The showers work just fine I’ve never had an issue with temperature or water pressure, and when I have had a drainage issue, maintenance fixed it within 24 hours. As wheelchair user as of December, the staff have been very accommodating, moving a whole flat to allow me to move into an accessible room. Whilst the building’s accessibility isn’t necessarily the best, it is manageable and every attempt is made to ensure it is. You’re near a tesco aldi and a small shopping centre, can’t complain for what you pay here

Hi, Thank you for your review. We are pleased to see that you have had a positive experience staying at our John Lester and Eddie Colman Courts Student Village!
The two blocks of flats are infested with drug users and the management are some of the weirdest people you will ever meet in your life.
This company is an utter disgrace for students. In good faith we paid a £200 deposit, and as per their policy we cancelled within the 7 day cooling off period. But over a month later, we still haven’t received our deposit back. Continuously being palmed off by the company. Emails not replied to. I wonder how many others have been caught by this.
It's very nice, apart from the bit where you have to live in it. Whatever you do, don't rebook. Their systems can't deal with rebookers and will contact you saying you owe them £200 within 7 days or you can't live there, when you're a student who's already financially insecure. Theivery, basically. And no, you can't wait for the student loan to come in and pay retrospectively, they're totally unreasonable and don't think they should pay for their own mistakes. I won't stop going on about this until I get it back. We ran out of water one night, which would have been very acceptable had this been the 19th Century. The rooms are absolutely tiny, the silver upward rooms provide absolutely no advantages for the price. 'Updated interiors' is code for 'we put a new floor in'. 'Larger floor plan' is code for 'absolutely no bigger'. Right next to a police station, so no such thing as a decent night's sleep, but if you do go out at night the rats will keep you company. The head office refu
OK so first of all its not like a prison, at all. The room i am staying in is quite nice for the price i am paying. The WiFi works well in my room, i haven't had any problems so far. The kitchen has been pretty good so far, everything works as it should do. The shower works, the water pressure could be a bit higher but the water is always hot enough. The radiators are kind of confusing to work and seem a little backwards but once you figure it out its fine. The fire alarms are very sensitive, and tend to go off a lot, so it can be a little distracting at times. But hey, at least you know you wont burn alive in your sleep. The common area downstairs is a great place to socialise if you dont have much room in your flat. Don't believe the other reviews that tell you this place is horrible, its fine for the price you are paying. Keep your flat clean and make your room homey, maybe bring some lights and decorations and it'll be just a s good as home.
Really don't know what all the fuss is about. the people writing these reviews must have very little realistic knowledge to what it's like living in a standard student hall. Although there may be a few things up in the halls such as older equipment in kitchens and bathrooms, and the police station being next to you (you get used to it and I barely even hear the sirens enough to "wake me up" at night), in general I really enjoy living here. Too many people compare this halls of residence to Peel Park down the road, which is not like most student accommodation in the slightest across the country. Social space is great and its so easy to make friends here, the staff are mostly friendly too and helpful. After having speak to many people on my course who are living n Peel, a lot have said how they only know the people in their flat and how it can be quite isolating. In John Lester there's such a good atmosphere. It is what you make it, so everyone needs to stop moaning :))))))
The thing with this place is that it is one of the cheapest you can find, so if you can pay a better place, do so. The fire alarm sets off quite often, and I'm not gonna lye: There were a couple of weeks in which it went off several times a day, every day! It was pointless to set an alarm to wake up because of the fire alarm. The lifts are annoyingly slow and sometimes you have to wait up to 5 minutes before the elevator opens the door, it's unbearable. Many times people from staff got in my flat with no previous warning, even before 9 am making noise and woke me up. Plus there is a police station next to the courts and quite frequently they turn on their sirens between midnight and 2 am and totally wake you up. In general is not a good experience, but as I said, it's kind of cheap so sometimes it's unfair to complaint too much. The only reason why I am not giving them a worse marking is because the staff at reception is really nice and they try to help you with everything you need.
- People constantly just come in and out of your flat unannounced (sometimes just use the toilet) whether this is builders or staff, they often come into your flat way before 9am and are extremely loud - Mouldy shower curtain when you move in - Drawers are broken in the bedrooms when you move in - tap water is either boiling or freezing - Heaters don't work (can't change the settings because the dial is broken - like this in every room) maintaince been asked to fix on many occasions and it still doesn't work after living here for 7 months - Stains in the ceilings - The bins outside don't get emptied regularly so flies are constantly in rooms and smell - '24/7' Security don't do their job. Drunk people have climbed upto bedroom windows on the front numerous times whilst people are asleep. They have put they're hands into the rooms and security have never done anything - Maintenance workers do come quickly to fix things (usually within 24 hours) but they never fix them correctly
Don’t stay here!!!! Aweful experience moved home after 3 month was disgusting. Maggots was in kitchen on top floor. Avoid at all costs
Lived here for a year since there was no other place I could find. Not to bad but I don't really like it just bearing through my contract. Wouldn't recommend it unless your with others as roommates then it's not to bad I guess.
Only thing good is the WiFi Roommates s***, Drinks vending machine always breaking and swallowing money Stay peel park
Don’t stay here at all! Completely ruined my first year at uni- it’s isolating if you don’t live in silver and lounge because the only common area in flats is the kitchen which frankly is disgusting as they have bar stools to sit on that are old, broken and wobble. The maintenance team are lovely but when you put a request in it take ages for them to fix it or they tell you they will come back to fix something but never do so you have to put in multiple requests. Picking up post (parcels) is a joke you have specific times to pick it up and that’s not organised properly, I was also told when moving in that if you do get parcels you’ll get an email notifying you that it’s been delivered and you can collected it from reception but have never received a single email. Fire alarms go off all the time because they are too sensitive to smoke and heat. Seriouslt spend a little extra and stay in peel park if you can I really regret not.
I've been living here since September now, and after reading some reviews before i came i imagined living here to be a nightmare. While it's not fantastic, here is my honest review. I live in a bronze room with two others, and although there is no living room the common room downstairs makes up for this, there are also lots of social events that you can attend (I met the majority of my friends on a free Hot Chocolate night). However, the place was pretty gross when we moved in. Surfaces were greasy and very obviously hadn't been cleaned, as well as the toilet leaking. However in regards to the toilet, we reported it to maintenance and it was sorted by the next morning. They have also been very fast with all our maintenance since. The things that annoy me the most about living here is the constant fire alarm testing and the silverfish. I have repeatedly found silverfish in our bathroom. It's disgusting and it is in both buildings. They also test the fire alarm at least once a week
I’m a student nurse and I would come off a night shift and they would allow the caretakers to drill at stupid times in the morning as in it would start before 9am. Bearing in mind the latest time would be days away from the Christmas holidays when our contracts run out anyway can they not do it then? It would be okay if it was something quieter but these drills have bass to them and it shakes the walls!!! I have rang reception and they say they can’t help it which leaves me sleepless! Apparently it’s fire alarm checks but does this need to be done so early and regularly? Not happy really let the place down if I could move I would.
Do not come here, whatever you do just don't even if it means your as poor as can be just stay away from this hell hole. Shared bathrooms are bad enough but these ones are dire, everything covered in grime and limescale when moving in huge crack in sink that wasn't fixed all year. Windows do not seal properly so the noise from the nearby main road is always audible, walls a paper thin I can often hear my flatmates breathing! Management are nice enough but effectively useless, maintenance requests just don't get seen to, unless there are thousands of requests and only one maintenance worker I don't see how they're so bad with it. Carpet had a huge stain when I moved in, I asked them to clean it and they just said its my problem. Kitchen is okay but in serious need of a refresh everything that should be white is sunbleached. The only good feature is the internet, wired ~80Mb/s and ~WiFi 40Mb/s although well bellow advertised speeds. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
4 words, Don’t f****** come here
DO NOT STAY HERE. Avoid if you can, I’m currently staying here and my flat is infested with silverfish. My friends saw a rat in the common room and firebrats in the kitchen cupboards. WiFi is piss poor and security is non-existent. I would give it no stars if I could.
Good place if you're low on cash and not expecting a dream house. Kitchen and bathrooms are filthy, bedrooms have a weird set up, very very dusty and needs cleaning every other day in order to keep it looking presentable. Maintenance were a joke, toilet was broken for the entire year and wouldn't flush properly but never got fixed after 5 or 6 requests. Incredibly small showers, sometimes get clogged up and overflow so the bathroom floods. Staff in reception were friendly but completely useless. They never tell you if you have a parcel delivered so you just have to guess, but if you don't pick it up within 2 weeks they just send it back and you'll have no idea it was ever delivered. Ordered a printer in my first week and was told we would receive emails whenever we had a delivery, was sat there for a week refreshing my emails until the company said it had been delivered so I had to go to reception and ask. If you're not expecting much, go for it but I wouldn't recommend staying here.
I have lived at John Lester & Eddie Coleman Courts for just under two years now and I can hand on heart say that I have enjoyed every moment living here. After reading many reviews on this site, I have found that most of these opinions are very outdated. To begin with, the social experience will only be as good as you make it. I went out my way to try and build relationships with as many people as I could and I can happily say I have made friends for life. The accommodation team go out their way to try and bring residents together with social activities such as pizza nights, international parties and quiz & film nights. With regards to the staff, I have build a professional yet friendly relationship with them . I have found them to be great help when dealing with problems, whether that be personal or residential related. For example, during Christmas I was going through a very emotionally draining period and they offered me counselling sessions.
If you have the money to, just don't do it. Living here is the worst. I'm a nursing student on a 'nursing floor' yet I am placed in a flat with a media student who plays her music as loud as possible all hours of the day. Whenever me or my other flat mate complain we simply get turned away and nothing is done about it. I've had so many issues with this accommodation that I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. There a silver fish in the bathrooms and kitchen and the security is appalling. Security will let anyone in without questioning them.
Very basic, not very clean, can hear police sirens constantly but the staff are nice
theres nobody there... its dead. and embarassing liable to get shot at on way home
Crap internet. Poor heating system. Poor management. Grim bathrooms. Late getting deposit back. Moved out half way through year.
Was alright, bit dirty and no living area made it feel uncomfortable! Kitchen is dated and staff can be rude and are very unhelpful at the best of times
Horrendous experience, moved out after week due to rude staff, mould all over bathroom, huge lumps out of all the kitchen cupboards and the smell was horrific ( not to mention numerous other reasons) Room was not up to standard and was cold and depressing. Was left alone for a week with no roommates and the staff where less than helpful and are honestly very rude. Find it a joke I'm still expected to pay rent even though i didn't even live there and the place is a massive s*******. Wouldn't reccomend to anyone its honestly a horrible place to live.
I have no idea what all the problems here are about. For £87 these flats are class. The kitchen is spacious, the rooms are a large size. The social areas are filled with all sorts like a free gym, pool tables and a common room with TV. The road is loud to be fair but you get used to it. If you are nice to the staff they're nice in return. You are in the perfect location. You cannot expect the world for only £87 a week.
Management are very poor here there is no real personal touch but as far as making friends goes you all bond over the rotting walls in your bathroom and the wifi signal so poor it couldn't load a picture. Nevertheless it works as far as a roof over your head and a bed to make friends in goes. I would pick this place over peel park any day because the people live here are real there are no snobs or k******** her.
There is mold and grime everywhere and when you ask the management to deal with it they simply paint over it. This place is waiting for a health and safety lawsuit.
Had to get a girlfriend in better halls just to avoid staying here
I went into this accommodation all starry eyed because of the £79/week rent, but my optimism soon changed to disappointment when I walked into my room. I feel like prisoners would get a better place to sleep. The kitchen wasn't much better, especially when I saw the freezer that had dry food stuck to it, and it hadn't even been defrosted. The area is a bit of a dive, I mean I would expect Manchester/Salford to be rough, but a police car was despatched at least 10 times a day. I didn't feel one bit safe walking alone. The management is diabolical, it takes multiple requests for maintenance to fix anything and don't even get me started on the laundry facilities that were always broken. I could have hand washed and dried my clothes faster. If internet and Wifi is one of the important things to you, then this place isn't for you. I could have connected to the internet via a tin can and string faster. The social areas are pretty decent though.
Had few problems with some services, such as hot water and plumbing. Staff hasn't been too keen on fixing these issues, instead they are making routine checks on how clean we have kept our flat. they do this every month and it pisses me off. Feels like being in custody. Personally I don't like the staff.
Dark, cold and so gloomy makes you feel like it is a prison cell, alongside cramped rooms and no social activity and the worst wifi you will ever use in your life makes it a pretty depressing experience. But hell it is 80 pounds a week with bills and 5 mins walking from uni can't beat that value.
very nice and sociable area for student
Terrible experience. Washers/driers are costantly broken and not nearly enough for all the people that live here. The kitchen and bathroom were in horrible conditions (old and very very dirty). The cleaners didn't clean in-depth, even after requesting. Cooking fan was leaking oil/liquids, making it extremely dangerous to cook and use the hobs and they refused to fix it. Room is terrible; couldn't open the window properly and there was no proper closed wardrobe, only an open one with no drawers for clothing. Proper heating is non-existant (they don't have gas and they only have old storage heaters). The police station is really close, thus it wakes you up at nights with sirens. Common hallways are extremely dirty and smelly. Wired internet works fine, but Wifi is really slow (1 mb). Management has also repeatedly done mistakes with payment (even though I alwais paid regularly); thus everytime I had to waste a day to show them my old receipts. Avoid absolutely this hall.
Too expensive and not pleasant treatment in the hall.
The wired Internet is alright tbf but the wifi is w***
With very small rooms and only one common room between two buildings, it is very hard to socialise and make friends upon arrival
Social spaces are a bit bare and flats are pretty basic but they're clean, and the social atmosphere is amazing. Lovely security staff too.
It's a good place to socialise but there's a lot of things wrong with it too, the flats aren't in the best condition and it is impossible to get s vacuum cleaner, also been cases of mail going missing which the staff haven't done anything about
Security guards are legends, always there to help you get back in when you've lost your keys in town
Great location, minutes away from main campus. Very affordable. The common spaces refurbished and comfortable, but small, and frequently untidy. Wifi is terrible, only way to maintain connection is via ethernet,
Second rate living for anyone who fancies braving it.
It's ok but could be better prepared for the new academic year. Nice location but wright next to the police station where their car sirens go off at any time
Awful experience so far! No hospitality (unfriendliness - especially to foreigners) , no responsibility for anything, the staff makes a number of mistakes when comes to payment of the monthly rent. Also, if you have to change rooms, you must transfer your items within a day or they will get disposed of regardless of value. Apart from this, the WiFi is unbearable, for which they ask you to contact the provider and listen to their excuses (if you are lucky enough, you can get a cable from the reception that can make life a whole lot easier). Generally, if one is looking for a place to call home, they'd better look elsewhere. The only redeeming value is the proximity of the hall to the shopping centre, several supermarkets and, of course, the university itself. However, this cannot make up for neither everything mentioned so far nor the accommodation rooms which are quite limited, especially if the person is tall. In conclusion, the amount of flaws in this hall are not worth enduring.
Its an ok place to live while studying at salford
Good place too stay...it's a shame they had a really s***** staff and cleaners ...the people i met there were cool and we partied a lot
Incompetent management. A cleaning team who clean the wrong flats in the wrong buildings and also care more about clocking off on time than finishing the job. Hallways that show obvious and distracting signs of previous tentants by the careless application of paint. If you're lucky, you'll find your bathroom is still being plastered the morning you move in. The floor is vastly more comfortable than sleeping on the "mattresses" provided, and the definition of the bedrooms, bathroom and kitchens is quite simply; depression. The noise of the local police station has the ability to drive you insane, and the lifts constantly feel as if they are suicidal and ready to plunge to their death at any moment. If you're looking for an enjoyable halls experience that's modern and vibrant, avoid John Lester & Eddie Colman at all costs. It'll be the best descision of your student life.
