Pros: relatively easy transport links to uni park (main campus), to the city centre - bus stops are max 10 min walk away. Almost always security/reception staff available. The RESX team have free activities every night. Breakfast is good value - lots of options. Jubilee campus sports centre very close. Halls are cleaned every weekday (bedrooms monthly). Personally, the room was of a decent size with good ensuite. Personally the dinner was usually decent but a VERY mixed consensus for this with other people. Small SPAR supermarket nearby where you can use your mealcard - if you shop here for the whole week at once you could limit how much extra money you spend per week on food CONS: EVERY night/early morning is noisy - security will deal with it only IF you call them. Very limited amenities compared to uni park. A bit cold in rooms in September/october (central heating only turned on for very low temps) Hall ideal for Jubilee campus students - inconvenient for uni park students.

Q
I have seen the 'one bedroom flat' in Newark Hall advertised on the UoN website. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what it's like? Does it have a private kitchen? What's the size like? As I can't seem to find any photos of it online.

Newark Hall is one of the worst place I have lived in my life. The heater would not work under good 5 degree Celsius, and my device has never been able to connect to the internet ever since I lived here. It is also very crowded, resembling the living condition of a subdivided flat in my hometown and I came from Hong Kong. The wall insulation is also bad. You can hear chatting sound of your neighbour even though they are but whispering. This hall is literally the unholy combination of a problematic residence so unless you have the adventurous mind to experience cave man like university life, with high risk of hypothermia for 1/4 time of your academic year, I strongly not advice you to waste your £235 per week and live here.

Do not waste your money!!! The staff, particularly female staff are so rude. The rooms are tiny for the price you pay and the portions for the catering are so tiny I end up paying extra on the side for food. This is the worst accommodation you can possibly get

I’ve only lived here for two weeks, and we were forced to move out of the hall because of fire safety issues. What a great way to start my first year in UoN! The location itself is a pain in the a, since it’s too far away from the university park campus. And I couldn’t choose which hall I wanted to live in before coming to UoN. The rooms are ok except for the broken heater, laggy WiFi, and the noisy corridors outside my room at 1am, but the food in the atrium is just downright disgusting. The staff in the atrium are also so stingy and rude, that they’ll yell at people wanting to have more food. The worst part is they put you into self isolation when you don’t even have any symptoms during covid 19, since they put you into “households” with random strangers. It felt like an absolute prison during my self isolation period. I’ve had enough of this hall. This is a big hot mess that I have to endure as a fresher. In general, don’t go to the catered halls in UoN unless you can’t cook.

Music, alcohol, noise at night time. Management does nothing, the worst hall ever.

Convenient for business and computer science students. On the expensive side but food is paid for in accommodation fees.

Since the rooms are all off like a figure of 8 hallway system over 3 floors, everyone is your neighbor, which is really great, it's the most sociable place you can live when attending UoN. you will make many great friends at newark halls and it really does feel like everyone is just one big family. Plenty of common spaces for everyone to hang out and a brilliant bar. (drinks are cheap and there's a pool table). The main bar staff mark is also really great. Location wise its spot on, dead center of the jubilee campus with the hopper bus stop right outside. only bad points would be that the staff are seemingly none existent except for security, and the food is acceptable at best. As for the wifi, the speed is good, but the connectivity is horrific... you'll b ok with an Ethernet cable but I would't rely on the wireless for much. Overall really good hall tho.. would recommend.

More modern than Uni Park Halls. En Suite rooms are also a live saver!! The Hopper Bus drops you off right out front. It's also closer to the city than Uni Park halls

It's a really good hall. A bit on the pricey side considering you have to have an ensuite but then considering all food is included in the price it's not too bad. It a really good location for getting to town. Taxis are cheaper than travelling to town from Uni Park halls. The free hopper bus was reliable and an easy way of getting to main campus. The bar is the biggest and best out of all the uni bars. We also have the jubilee gym like one minutes walk a way. Seems to be really popular with medics and international students so maybe not the most lively hall however I still had a really good time. The fact you are not organised in to blocks means you are free to roam around and socialise with all 400 students in the hall. Overall, I would pick Newark again. Great experience

The only downside to Newark Hall is the commute on to University Park every morning from Jubilee Campus.
