You do mostly get what you pay for. Pros- - amazing WiFi - comfy mattress (unless I just got lucky) - super close to campus - super close to a supermarket - decent security Cons- - the walls and doors are so unbelievably thin - I personally had the worst first term experience with flat mates (some of the rudest and loudest people) - the staff didn’t really seem that bothered about solving the issue - the laundry facilities are not good.

STAY AWAY FROM BLOCK F. I have a complete apartment and am paying a premium to stay in a place which would be a noted health concern in Canada. Leaking windows in the bedrooms. Mould in the wooden windowsills and bathrooms plastic seams. Dust EVERYWHERE at all times. You can dust daily - and it is a fine, blue dust. It looks like lint from laundry exhaust. They scheduled significant works done WHILE STUDENTS WERE IN RESIDENCE. No plastic sheeting was used to cover soft surfaces in bedrooms, etc. Students are then expected to do all the washing and cleaning of these works at their own expense. My dry clean only coat must be cleaned now my own expense. If you have asthma or a respiratory condition - run far, far away. I have been ill since arrival. Despite repeated e-mails nothing is addressed in a timely manner. Toilet took 2+ weeks to be fixed. In addition, the laundry facilities are absolutely foul. Constantly smelling sewage in the laundry rooms from backed up / broken machines.

Showers don’t work half the time (freezing cold), social life/cleanliness depends on room mates, kitchen utilities are s***, room is okay, VERY NOISY (idiots shouting at night) and construction. Cleaners don’t do s***, maintenance take ages to respond to problems eg broken shower. Reception is helpful though. The dirty old building let’s them down.

For the money that you have to pay, it is absolutely not worth it. Always very dirty, got the wort roommates that never cleaned up there was always mold on there dishes and the smell in the kitchen made me sick. Construction works were happening during the exam period and it was always hard to focus or sleep. Walls are very thin so sleeping was always bad, students shouting in the middle of the night and you could hear everything clearly.

It does not correspond at all what we have to pay as visiting students with the services that we are offered in the accommodation.

The amount of money to pay is excessive for the service offered. They do not take into account the commodity of the students. Allowing works to be made just in the middle of the exam period, starting at 8 and not letting student either sleep or study, forcing them to move somewhere. The cleaning is almost null, the halls of the blocks smell bad, nobody cleans it, they just care about organizing venues and not the cleaning and manteinance of the blocks.

For the price you pay, the rooms are very adequate. I came here wanting a big kitchen and decent bed with a sink that is what I got. Nixon court is very close to the campus and it's such a stress reliever knowing you don't have to leave so much time to get to lectures . I feel awful for the people at Oadby having to get a bus every morning. The team at reception are very helpful, I haven't had any issues regarding questions or issues that I have had. The cleaning is done through external contracting and I have to say I haven't been that impressed with the level of cleaning they do. They/the accommodation doesn't clearly set out what it is the 'cleaners' clean so it was always unclear for my flat at least. The social experience is very determined on what kind of flat mates you get, I had a flat full of fluent english speakers who were eager to talk, my friend had a flat of 5 non english speakers and was upset cus they never spoke at all and he had issues with them. Slow internet.

I would not recommend this accommodation. This year, the block I was living in was infested with mice throughout both semesters, the wifi connection was off and on, and I have had several problems with the delivery of post. This halls is very noisy but is a 5min walk from the accommodation which is good, however is isolated from the majority of the student accommodation as it is about 15-20min bus journey from the student village.

I currently live at Nixon Court as a postgraduate student. I live on the ground floor of one of the older blocks and have an ensuite and money wise I am happy with what I have. The kitchen can get a bit of a mess and the rooms definitely need some new carpets, but the rooms are spacious and I've made mine quite cosy. Being on the ground floor does mean that I have few options window wise, either let everyone look directly in or have my blind down, or cover the window, which is a bit of a pain. I find Nixon Court much too noisy as a postgrad student. I have invested in earplugs so I don't ruin the freshers fun, but I was under the impression that there would be more postgrads living in Nixon rather than freshers, but this is not case this year. I wouldn't recommend Nixon for postgrad students, you will find yourself being kept up by the parties and woken up through the night by drunken screaming. Which isn't great when you've got one year to make your masters count.

Good value for money, the internet in my room is brilliant (50mbps down 10 up) and i'm only sharing a kitchen (which does get messy) and bathrooms with 4 others However socially, it isn't as great, most of my friends are in Oadby and that's definitely set up much better there. You're only a 10 minute walk away from the university though, so it makes getting to lectures so easy. Minor niggle but while it is absolutely brilliant that the offices are open 24/7, *some* of the staff are a bit rude, namely when I came in to ask for a package early and was ranted at for not waiting for it be processed (baring in mind this was my first time asking) which was frustrating. Overall it's worth the money, I think maybe as a first year it's not as social but if you're a postgrad it's great.

A perfect location to access university. Common rooms are good and it's quite a social environment. Rooms are quite standard but spacious however kitchen areas are a lower quality. Internet is awful and it can affect studying because of how slow it is. If you get a delivery then you have to wait around 3 days for it to be "processed" by reception after it arrives. Overall it's decent but looking at other places might be a good idea.

The great benefit of living in Nixon Court is the location, it's only a 5 minute walk to campus and within walking distance to the city centre. I'm just glad I don't have to wait for that Oadby bus. The room itself is much better than I had expected, it's a little but shabby and worn but for what you pay it's worth it. The onsite staff are helpful, as are the residential advisors who pop around every now and again. The downside to Nixon court is that you can end up in a flat if 10 where it's a bit more difficult to get to know one another and the kitchen gets messier quicker. However, sharing two bathrooms with 10 people is not bad actually- everyone respects on another and there's never anyone hogging the bathroom. On the topic of bathrooms though- don't expect much but it does the job. The other downside is the noise, throughout freshers and once or twice a week it can be a bit loud and rowdy. If you don't mind noise and want convenience then Nixon Court is for you.

It takes 10 mins to walk to the furthest side of the uni campus so you can get out bed and quarter to and still make it to lectures. This also means you don't have to pay for buses/taxis to the union on club nights. Morrisons is 5 mins down the road and the Dry Dock pub is right next door which is good if you can't be bothered to go out but fancy a few drinks. If you want a quiet life 24/7 then Nixon probably isn't for you, it can get quite noisy. Also expect to be woken up at 9am once a week by the cleaner banging the hoover against your door. It's great socially though, there's always stuff going on.

If I had been a British fresher I would have been very upset and lonely as it is very quiet and very few fluent English speakers. However, I am a postgrad student in the modern blocks, so for me, it is perfect as I wanted somewhere very quiet and close to the uni & city centre with parking facilities. Most of the reception staff are, unfortunately, very unfriendly and can often make you feel inferior and a nuisance for asking them to complete their job role in assisting you! My room is very large with a double bed and ensuite. Plenty of storage, in fact, almost too much. The kitchen is also very large with plenty of storage and sofa areas. This is the more expensive room options (F-K), and I have seen other kitchens are much smaller.

Best city living option offered by the uni. There are probably cheaper alternatives if you go private but if it comes at around the same cost, choose Nixon. You'll be close to both uni and Welford Road, which is full of good, cheap food options. Also, the common room is fantastic for meeting a lot of foreign chicks ;)

Horrible experience! I would not recommend this to anyone but especially to North American students. It does not meet our living standards; old rooms, nasty carpet (I don't believe they know there is something called shampooing) bathrooms stink, loud train noises. I put in three requests for maintenance in the last 4 weeks and I haven't got any response from the staff. I was also taken off the wait list without any notification. Very unprofessional! P.S. They have pictures up on the site for the new buildings, do not get fooled by that.

Great experience when a first year although may have been an unusual number of freshers this year, I believe there's usually more internationals and older students living there. Very nice not to have to get the bus into town or to uni unlike staying at Oadby as both are well within walking distance. Dry dock is a great student pub which is right next door!

If you have the cash to opt for the premium ensuite (double bed + ensuite), go for it. The other rooms are really MUCH older, but if you can deal with the occasional water heater/ central heating breaking down then it shouldn't matter. Location wise, 7 mins away from campus. Literally right next door. Extremely convenient. Trust me, on campus accommodation saves you all the hassle. You pay a bit more but it's really worth it. You don't have to bother with paying your own bills since it's all inclusive. 20-30 mins walk to the City Centre, I'd say it's not too bad. Anyway, if you've got the bus pass or split cab fares between friends to and from the City Centre - works out to be real cheap.
