Read The Towpath Reviews
I honestly do not know where to start with this review. It will be a long one but if you are considering booking the Towpath, I would strongly suggest you take a read. It has taken me so long to write this as I’ve only just processed all the wrong-doing’s and distress that was caused during my stay at the Towpath. I would even go as far as saying that I was ‘gaslit’ into believing that my best interests were taken into consideration and that the situation was dealt with sensitively. When I moved in , I was very happy, my room was clean and the accommodation is situated in a nice area. The kitchen was spacious but the ripped sofa was tatty and full of dirt. I reported this and it was then cleaned. The communal areas seemed nice, although the gym was very disappointing. The first minor issue arose when a tenant had moved out , leaving behind a whole fridge of food and many cupboards filled with their property. When I had finally realised they had moved out , I let the staff know that
Need toilet in Communal/social space so that when there don’t have to go back to room or elsewhere
- need toilets in the communal area - wifi can be slow
Need a toilet in communal space
Absolutely fabulous! Great service! Amazing staff! Loved every minute
This will be my 4th year staying at The Towpath! Within my 4 years staying here, I have loved every minute of it. The staff are really helpful, and any issues you may have they will be happy to resolve them and log any maintenance issues which might need fixing, which are usually done promptly. The towpath is a lovely place to live, with a modern touch for uni Accomodation. The rooms are of good size, including the en-suite! The 24 hour security was one of the main reasons myself and my parents wanted me to stay at this Accomodation. All the facilities ( games room, gym, social space and laundry room) are a massive bonus to this Accomodation and with them being on site, especially the games room and social space, it is a great way of getting to know new people and mix with different flats near you! I have made friends for life from choosing to stay at the towpath and can’t wait for my 4th and final year here :)
Overpriced for rooms that are falling apart, doors break and are never fixed, waited for a light to be fixed for 10 months now, lifts constantly covered in sick, urine, anything you can think of really. If you want a never ending stream of unknown men coming through your apartment unannounced this is the place for you. The only positive I can think of is the location, this place is a genuine scam.
If you want the smell of sewage and zero nights sleep, this is the place for you! Despite the sewage plant being situated miles away, you will smell raw human faeces for a good 5/7 days a week. I hope you don't care much for your sleep schedule, because all the flats face onto eachother. Every night someone will be partying until 4am and you will hear every single bass drop, shout, and shattered glass. Onto maintenance. My bathroom light has been inoperable since the day I moved in almost 12 months ago and I've been waiting a solid three months to get a large crack in my wall seen to, I'm convinced they're putting it off so they can charge me for the repairs and take it out of my deposit. Try not to get too attached to the lifts in your block either, when ours broke it took four months to get it fixed. The washing facilities and gym are both good, and the Internet is great, but these are small positives to an otherwise miserable experience. Not worth the money at all.
Great place to stay for students. A homey room, friendly staff and great location make living in here a great experience.
I have lived here for 4 years and that’s because it is by far the best student accommodation in Chester! While it may be expensive it is certainly worth it for the social experience you get. It is not just a place to live it’s a social hub filled with friends and lovely people. Fantastic location next to a lovely pub with live music, amazing views overlooking the canal and perfect distance to the city centre! All bills are included, it’s furnished and 24 hour maintenance If you need something fixed or repairing. The team and staff that work there are also lovely and there is plenty of opportunities to get involved with things going on. They really do make an effort hosting events or completions based around holiday dates (such as halloween, christmas, etc). Even the security staff are lovely. Towpath is not just accommodation it is your uni home.
Loved my time here and the staff were friendly and wonderful. Couple of issues with the WiFi but sorted very quickly
Lovely and smiling. Even after a 12 hr shift
I have stayed at Towpath for 2 years now and it is perfectly located to town & university campus’. The corridors are cleaned very well and cleaning during Covid has been fabulous so thank you so much to the cleaner. The people in the office are great and work very well with what they are given by studentroost…which isn’t very much/good. Any issues are sorted quite quickly by the people in the office and maintenance so thank you to them. However, in both my years living there the lift has been broken lifts for months on end..this is no fault of those in the office though. Studentroost as a company is terrible and do not care about the well-being of students. They do not care about their sites seeing as there have been holes in ceilings for over a month now. They need to repaint the rooms because the marks on the walls are disgusting. I wouldn’t be surprised if the resident in the room didn’t get their deposit back for mark’s that were there for years before them.
the price was good however it’s going up next year which reduces the value for money. i selected a false contract and wasn’t allowed to change, we’re also being charged for issues we didn’t cause. apart from that the gym and social space is great location great and the staff are amazing. great experience
Very good place and lovely staff, amazing views
Really friendly staff, great for a chat and always about when you need them. Great value for money with loads of things to do e.g. gym, pool table. Love the location right next to the canal, close to city centre.
Staff are super friendly and accommodation is lovely with gorg views
Lovely friendly staff, always helpful if you ever have a problem! Lovely place to live
The Towpath is a great place to stay. The staff are so friendly. Would highly recommend!
love the people, always put a smile on my face when i go down to reception. Very welcoming, and the common room was by far my favourite part of staying at Towpath.
Love the rooms and the kitchen area however lift in my block is still broken and that’s not fun.
Nice room and study space in a good location
Great environment, friendly staff
Really had an amazing time living there for my experience abroad! It was really close to the campus and shops, which was essential for me. The staff there are absolutely lovely and very helpful in times of need. I would completely recommend choosing the Towpath as your accomodation!
Cracking internet speeds, lovely staff, great mailing system, my only issue is the price. I'm on the highest student loan tier and Towpath is so pricey that 70% of my loan goes on rent and I'm left struggling to afford food. Are the facilities good? Hell yeah, they're great, no question, but you have to be from a wealthy family to get the most of the experience. P.S. Make sure to get a room that isn't facing Telford's Warehouse, or you won't get a single nights sleep. Not just noise from the pub, but you'll hear everyone partying every night of the week.
Such a great accommodation its always clean and tidy and has everything you need! It’s in a perfect location as it’s close to both the main campus and the city. All the staff are super friendly and supportive and can help you with anything you need. I have stayed at The Towpath for 2 years and would highly recommend it to anybody looking for student accommodation!
My second year here and I had to isolate when arriving from abroad and the team really looked after me. They took my rubbish. Brought me parcels and food deliveries and checked I was ok. It was a hard two weeks but they made it a bit easier for me.
Love living here and can’t wait to be back after this looooong break
Hi guys, I hope you are well. This is Abdu from Saudi Arabia I international student in the UK. Actually, I have been in Towpath since December 2019 it is a nice place in Chester city when I arrived Towpath I got brilliant room which is clean, tidy and nice smell. As well, you can walk to a supermarket and the city centre around 5 minutes and from the school English in Chester around 7 minutes. So, you can find social space consists of a laundry room, a very quiet student room, gym. Unfortunately, I going to move to another city and I can't find as same accommodation. All the employees are friendly, cooperative and helpful and work 24/7. They help all residents. Also, during the COVID-19 who are want to move out or stay in their room, they help them with their contract and flexibility. Honestly, I strongly recommend it. Cheers, Abdullah
Very cosy, fresh, comfortable place with nice location and views. Warm in winter because of excellent thermo isolation.
Hi everyone, Before I moved to Towpath, I had lived in different student accommodation, none of them as the same as the Towpath. I've lived in The Towpath for 6 months as I’m more than happy to continue here. In terms of the location, the accommodation is handy for the city centre and for the University of Chester, so you would not waste time when you want to go to the city centre. Although it is really convenient, the area where the accommodation is located is really calm and safe. About the buildings, all the buildings get regularly maintained so you can make sure that everything in the building is fine. Regarding the WIFI, it is really outstanding, and the signals of the WIFI are full everywhere inside the buildings. About the Social space, it is a great place to relax and read a book as it is spacious and luxurious. About the staff, literally, I cannot describe how helpful and thoughtful Traycie and her workmates are.
Totally honest review. I have stayed at towpath one first year and it has been amazing. From 24 hour on site staff to pizza party’s in the social space! I think staying at The Towpath has made my first year very memorable! In my flat we had a TV in the kitchen, as well as in the social space! This was brilliant for bonding with the other flat mates as we had something to break the ice! The staff are very kind and friendly and have answered any question that I have had! Because of how amazing my first year was I’m choosing to stay with Towpath again. The internet was very quick and made it so easy for me to complete uni work because I wasn’t having to battle with the WiFi all the time. Their is also a quite space for you to get on with your uni work if you don’t fancy going to the library! Towpath also has a built in gym, this was great because the gym membership around Chester is about £30 a month, making it cheaper and more convenient to use the gym! I would definitely recommend.
As a parent we chose towpath because of the on site 24 hour staff , close location to parkgate campus and the city centre and from a friends recommendation. We and our daughter have been really happy with the choice and she hopes to return for her final year of study of travel restrictions are lifted.
I loved living here and was sorry I had to leave earky due to covid. I lived here for two years and would recommend for location and the friendly team. I made new friends and felt safe here too
I am absolutely over the moon with the customer service I received from Jessica at the Towpath. What a wonderful place to be able to stay. Thank you again. 5 stars.
The Towpath is a brilliant place for students! Located next to a pub with great views of the canal, a short walk into town full of bars and clubs in a 5-10 min walking distance! The main campus is located a 7 min walk away and is very easy to get too! Would recommend to anyone especially with the large rooms and lovely kitchen areas to socialise with flat mates. It also has a social space with table tennis available all the time and tv with netflix on! It also includes a quiet area to let you crack on with work without having to go to the library!
Covid-19: They have been amazing, with letting me out of my contract even after the issue with my internet not showing them I want to move out after the deadline. I have had so much support on helping me move out efficiently as well as having no stress of having to go pick my things up in the middle of lockdown.
I am reviewing The Towpath management as a parent. The pastoral support, care and confidentiality provided by The Towpath Manager Traycie for the students and their parents is absolutely second to none. Traycie dedicates herself to the students in her care - if a student needs her to be, she is their mum away from home - I have nothing but praise and admiration for her. Thank you Traycie
sometimes the internet cannot work
Right so here's the most honest review. I'm not going to sugar coat anything and everything said in this review I have spoke to people about. It's classed as "luxury accommodation" fair enough but it's not cheap for what you get. You are always going to get trouble in a shared flat but save yourself some money and go to a different accomodation if you want studios this place is not built for them. If you want a quiet night in the social space to watch a film (don't expect it to be quiet for too long. It's open floor planned so you can hear people playing pool (not quiet) also there's no toilet whoch is a downside. The good things about this place is that it is close to Parkgate Campus and town and you have a pub on your door step which obviously has mixed reviews. Another good thing is that the security from Wednesday to Sunday night is fantastic all other days it is a bit touch and go in fairness. Overall it was an experience to say the least it's personal opinion if you like it here.
Very happy with accommodation, five minute walk to uni or city center. Somebody always on site to help out, comfy bed, good WiFi signal, nice bathroom, small compact yet functional rooms.
Value for money - it could be considered expensive, however it is a luxury student accommodation! People who complain about pricing should’ve looked it up online before booking and had a look round on an open day as well as figured out whether they can afford it first. I personally think it’s great value for what you get. The rooms are very spacious compared to a lot of other university accommodation (I have lived in three different types in Liverpool as well as towpath. I am most pleased with Towpath). The staff - Tracey, Gemma and Paul are always on hand to do what they can to make you feel safe and welcome - you couldn’t ask for more from site staff! I’ve had a great experience with them helping me out and maintenance is always fixed promptly and too a good standard. Looking forward to my second year stay :)
It's very nice beautiful and we all enjoy this
it is very good. l like this flat
It’s a great apartment. I enjoy staying here very much. Thank you very much.
It's very nice and beautiful,we are very enjoy!

Nice place to live in. Quiet and clean. A bit far away from Cheshire College though.
Clean and tidy ,without any ribish. The lake there is very beautiful. The jym is very interesting for people to play.Thank you of your all.
It's a very clear and quiet room.we can relax by myself.
this is a really excellent apartment
The apartment is very clean and the kitchen is very tidy. It's comfortable to live in.lt very good.
Very nice and good. It's very convenient location.I love this place
It very beautiful and clean. It's like
the sound of toilet is too noisy
The environment is good and the room is clean.
I think this is a very good and its atmosphere is great
Please done believe all The negative reviews! I am sad to leave towpath this year as I graduate in the summer. Fresh previous manament was fine but so is student roost. We have definitely seen an improvement on social events. Traycie will always post a question on Facebook asking what events would we like to see and I actually voted for ‘painting rocks’ very therapeutic. And how could you not love therapy dogs it was great fun and I believe Student Roost paid for this as they are a local charity. Traycie is a like a mum away from home, always there for a good chat, I will Miss her and her positivity. You can’t please everyone of course not but Towpath has by far been one of the best experiences of my life and I will always have fond memories.
There is a reason that once Student Roost took over this place is now is no longer a 5 star accommodation. Don't live with them, worst student company. I feel like since living with them they don't actually care about us students, they just see the pound signs that we give them. Issues with this place since December. Very disappointed with how this place has become.
This accommodation doesn't even deserve 2 stars. Worst place to live in Chester. Student Roost took over and completely ruined the place. Get out of here while you still can
I am not surprised at all to find The Towpath at 2 stars. Worst Student accommodation i have ever lived with. The only good things about it are the lovely cleaning staff who work tirelessly to keep the place clean and the security guard Colin who is amazing at his job. He makes us all feel safe at the night and makes sure everyone is being quiet past 11pm which students here seem to forget to do when he isn't here. Cannot think of a worse place to live. In Block A all you here are trains all the time, so if you get that unless you are a heavy sleeper in September good luck to you. Yes waterfront views are lovely for pictures but can you really deal with bugs all the time if you leave your window or balcony door open and even the smell the canal gives sometimes is disgusting. Don't even get me started on Telford's good luck getting to sleep before 3am, the drunk people and staff throwing barrels about make it impossible, i'd understand on a weekend but on weekdays during exams. Horrible
Glad to moving out in September. The Towpath is no longer a place i like to call home. After having to go deep into my overdraft just to pay my rent it really is not worth the amount of money you pay. Honestly would suggest trying to get on campus living as well as you more likely to attend lectures living there and it is cheaper. Furthermore, The Towpath just feels like an unhappy place to live, there isn't much to do here and the studios are not worth the money that you pay for them. If you look elsewhere you can get a Premium studio for what you pay for a silver here. Yes some places might not offer free dual occupancy however if you look other places are more modern and not small. So i would say that if you are coming to university in September go for university owned accommodation and if you are second or third year student houses are the way to go, they are cheap and you can live in a place that you make your own and feels like home.
wish i could leave now its horrible here rooms smell of canal or weed if you have your window open. going to live back at fresh accommodation so much better there.
Really do not enjoy living here anymore. Telford's keep me up till 3am at night. Drunk students come back very loudly. During Exam week was the worst. Cannot wait to leave
rooms are too small and there is no toilet in the social area nor and kitchen sort of facilities if people were going to stay down there.
going to move to tramways as that is better value for money than this place nothing great happens here tbh unless you call a broken pool table fun.
The towpath is way too expensive for what it actually is. The shared flats are always a horrible environment for example; bins not being taken out, drugs in the flats or fall out with flatmates. These are only a few issues there are plenty more. The studios are way too expensive and tiny. There are much better places out there for Studios, even the ones on campus. Wouldn't suggest this place to anyone
moving to tramways next year so i do not have to smell weed anymore because of the flat below me. there is always some sort of drama going on and i would not recommend this place
it is way too expensive for what you get.
shared flats are great if you want to cook in rubbish that has not been taken out for months and want your doors slammed at 3 am. all I hear at nights are the pub and the trains. really do wish it was a better place but unfortunately it's not.
Thinking back to the towpath in September it was a lovely place to be, the team we had were amazing and friendly. Now it is the most unhappiest i have been here. The staff we all loved have all left, the place has really gone downhill. The shared flats are great when you first move in, as it was an easy way to make friends, but trust me shared flats never work out. You all fall out and it really isn't worth the hassle. The social events here have really gone downhill, its not worth the time to go to them anymore, no one really does. It makes me sad to write this as i used to love it here and now i cannot stand it. The trains or drunk people coming out of Telford's keep me up at night. In the Towpath by both students and staff i am made to feel unwelcome here. I cannot wait to move out of the here and into a student house, most people will agree this place just isn't what it used to be. The only thing i will miss is Colin the security guard, who is amazing at his job.
the social area is run down, too hot or too cold the rooms smell at night if you have the windows open and the mattresses break your back even with new ones.
unfortunately this place is not what it used to be. The social events are going down hill, no one wants to paint rocks OR have dogs, would love one as a pet but not as a social event. the only go thing here is the cleaning and colin the security guard.
Staffs are really kind, they manage the property so good that I can pay all my attention to the study.
the towpath is awful and would not recommend anyone to live here. there are only 2 good things about this place. 1, it's close to uni 2, there's a pub next to it but honestly not even them reasons I would stay here.
I originally wrote an excellent review for The Towpath, but since then i believe it has changed. The Towpath has become a horrible place for me to live, i believe its become a very unhappy place. Since December, it just seems to have got worse and worse and there is only so long you can put up with it for. I didn't move out to be treated like a child and thats how i feel by the staff now. There is only one good staff member left, which is the security guard who doesn't even work for student roost! i write this review with sadness as this place in september was amazing but now it's like a drugs den! There are drugs in ever block of The Towpath and nothing is done. I don't think i can live here another year. So if i was you i wouldn't live here in september and i would consider living elsewhere.
The staff at Towpath are so kind and helpful. I am lucky to live where the management are so kind and understanding. I needed to make a room change half way through the tenancy and no questions were asked, the job of moving was made simple and with no stress. You don’t get that opportunity and understanding anywhere else. Thank you everyone.
All I hear is trains every night. These beds are terrible I feel like my back is gonna give way at any point. Prices are a joke and all the events are aimed for 5 year olds like I don't want paint rocks I'm 18
If you look at the student roost website there is better accommodation in other places for better value for money. Which is why I have said it’s not value for money, since their facilities can be better and you can pay for studios for the price of a en-suite here! For example Northgate point and Northgate studios! The location is chilled!! Considering there are 300+ students living here over met a minimum of 20 since there aren’t many social events! They got rid of freebie Friday and pizza night! Only recently have they been doing event again. But one event which included pizza and a cinema night was set during the half term. So there weren’t many students here. They are just after money! I know people who rebooked then cancelled and they said they cant cancel or they can’t get their money back that they paid for next year... it isn’t worth the money. I know 9 people who rebooked and have cancelled to go to cheaper, more worth your money accommodation
I've lived in the Towpath for the last two years and have rebooked to spend my final year there too! The staff and halls themselves are amazing and the views from the rooms are insane! If you want a hassle free and modern space to live the Towpath is where you need to be!
Absolutely incredible place to live, staff are friendly and supportive and always know how to cheer you up. Location is beautiful and students are welcomed into office with a welcoming smile. On site security are fabulous and friendly and couldn’t make you feel safer (also good to chat to while having a fag). Office staff are always there to listen whether a personal issue or financial issue there always there. Highly recommend living at the towpath made my uni stay amazing.
The Towpath is always 100% the best place in the towpath, the staff Traycie, Lorna, Paul & Colin are all so friendly and always happy to help. The security is top notch, Colin the security guard is the funniest and super friendly. The cluster flats are the best thing about the towpath, it’s the best way to meet new friends as well as the social events. The best place to live in Chester
Good accommodation and nice staff espically colin. Big up colin
Amazing modern rooms with en-suites. Perfect location between uni and town. Safe and secure with security guard. Friendly, helpful staff who will do anything to make sure your time at university is smooth and enjoyable. Onsite maintenance to help with any issues. And a social space and social events which really help with socialisation and making friends with a wide range of people!
