Lovely campus, I feel like I know very little about clubs and society’s but I am sure they have them. Wifi is good but can be difficult to log into sometimes. Careers service are amazing and always sending out information on opportunities
I do not enjoy Abertay University. This may be because of taste - it is almost entirely online, save for 2-3 in person lab sessions. Those sessions often range in substance and engagement - they may not offer anything of use, or take up far too much time for what is needed. The online work is minimal. It is hard to keep concentration on it - coursework and exams are minimal, where almost all my tasks are scored off of multiple choice questions. It does not feel challenging and engaging to me, and is overall underwhelming from what I expect from any university. I expect this kind of quality from an online university like Open University, not a university like Abertay with a feasible campus. It is a waste of money to move into accommodation for Abertay. It would be far more cost-effective to get a train into Dundee in most cases. Thus, I feel totally deceived by the university. I really had better expectations for Abertay. Much of its redeeming qualities lie in the community.
Very good university in terms of resources and facilities you can access. Access to uni lab computers all day (not 24/7) and library computers as well. SEZ is very useful for helping students with issues/concerns they have whether personal issues via the counselling services or educational issues. Wide range of societies and clubs that are active and host events and meetups fairly often.
Great uni, halls are great and professors are great
Positive:The lectures were Great Negatives:No facilities or events for promote Inclusion and diversity for people who aren't from Scotland..felt very clicky.
one of the best universities in Scotland , value of money, student welfare and mental health is prioritized by the school and the uni has friendly lecturers
The University have endless societies all of which are welcoming to people who want to join and other facilities are very clean and there are many of them. Wifi is quick and easily accessible in most areas of the university and they offer a lot of help for those who need it
Great university. Feel very at home
Due to the small nature of the city the social circle is very connected which is beneficial for outside of Uni activities and social experiences.
Great campus with many societies to join, brilliant staff and students to help with any issues faced during study. Slight WiFi issues with it logging people out and not being the best service but useable to get work done.
Dundee university is amazing. Thanks
Abertay is fantastic, a highlight being the Student Association, student support and the most teachers. The work may be hard but if you work hard to you will have a fantastic life experience!
The university has brilliant facilities that everyone can use and the different clubs are brilliant and they have some brilliant social nights, everyone is very kind and welcoming
It's a very welcoming and friendly place to study.
Been very welcoming and supportive so far!
My block is crap compared to the other blocks in looks, quality and location but everything else is okay
Hands down a phenomenal University. Did my undergraduate degree in Psychology & Counselling, every member of staff was amazing and went above and beyond. Grading was fair, every issue that I had has been dealt with swiftly. Such a friendly, small place ideal for the first uni experience. It’ll be hard finding one just as amazing!
This college is located in arbroath and has brilliant and supportive staff
Excellent facilities, helpful staff, only gave students union three starts because I've never been involved so I cannot comment and would be unfair to give an overly negative or positive review
So far throughout my course Abertay has been excellent, lecturers are knowledgeable on subject fields and able to help with issues I've had, the buildings are modern and upkept well, and overall nothing has gone badly
Staff are all enjoyable to be around.
Good working class university. Sez staff helpful. Good location and cafe is nice. Helpful course leader.
This is the best college i went. But i must say that while they spend a lot of money in the institution, the accommodations they own... Jesus, is a Scam. Go live somewhere else, there are a lot of options.
I went to the open day and the staff were so helpful. The courses are amazing here too.
due to covid, I have spent almost no time in the building
Overall a great university, well managed even in difficult times with covid.
Abertay is a technology based university which holds game creation courses high. Since I take this kind of course the university is brilliant. Great lecturers and great lab content. However the pandemic with its online classes lowered the quality of my learning experience.
This is a good university, it's not very big so it feels like a family.
Couldn't use a lot the facilities this year however they were good thr year prior
Due to lockdown, I have not seen the campus. I have only seen the campus briefly when I had a tour before my gap year in 2018
If you want to study art here, just spare your money and time and get some good online courses, you will learn just as much, since lecturers don't go farther than teaching the basics of any software here, the rest of the learning is always on you and the feedback is extremely lacking. You will have to deal with academic researchers who never had to apply to a game career in their life and game designers who wish to enslave you to create bizarre and boring game concepts. And yes, the above is the art course. Stay away, trust me on this.
Poor communication at Parker house and unfair treatment
DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU ARE NOT STUDYING GAMES/COMPUTING! The University really does not cater for other students! They have put too much investment in the Games Design courses whilst leaving others behind. Abertay has also just shut the student union, making the on site services bare.
Nice small uni, friendly. Good quality library with quiet floors. Cafe is a little expensive especially for students. Uni is very dominated by gamers and doesn't shine much light on other subjects. Not too many clubs to choose from and there is never any events as there is no student union.
Great university however needs some revamping as the buildings are big and some nice! Lecturers are good bar a small group
A great university where all the students and staff are close knit.
On a bit of a downward spiral it would seem. The staff are incredible but there are some issues which need fixed like te complete lack of a student union.
Univerity has been going downhill and something really needs to change.
Just save your time, energy and money and choose a different university.
Someone mentioned that this uni is a scam and I couldn't agree more. Nobody cares about the student. Power only cares about the outside reputation, ratings and the money. And it is really obvious. Especially with master students. they are tought basic skills and nobody cares about them at all, it's just an income for the uni. Support services just put a nice face on and say that they are helpful when in reality they don't know s*** about what's happening. A lot of bullying going on around especially with game design and artists. In the last years the univerity has been going downhill and something really needs to be changed.
Awful place, especially if you're not a game design student. Art students in particular are thrown to the dogs and have units catered to SUPPORTING the game designers, with no actual feedback or s**** given about them specifically. But going to sessions where everyone talks exclusively to the game design and programming students is mandatory. Everything is made to be about game design, months worth of lectures seem to forget they're not actually TEACHING game design courses, and woe betide you if you believed promises of their "hands on" teaching - because at the end of the day during big projects you'll be lucky to get more than a minute of their individual time because literally no tutors seem capable of managing theirs like grown-ups.
MPROF in Game Development is a waste of time. The closest word coming to my mind when I think about it is 'scam'. It's way below Masters level of education. Lecturers don't care about us. The feeling that they're here just to get easy money is clearly visible. We are left on our own with everything. We had to find our own projects and professional game developers to get feedback from them (if you don't know any of them personally then you have to bother unknown people - the best way to get blacklisted!). Lecturers will eventually tell you if you did enough or not - it's all that this uni has to offer. This and PC with Adobe software (other software is mostly available for free anyway) and MS Office (it's our main tool, not game engines). As a bonus, we got a module in which lecturer is focused on politics and social justice, not on game development itself. Are you ready to pay 5, 9 or 15k for this? I heard from other courses that it's not better there. Absolute mess, useless lecturers
I am in 4th year Games programming student and I can safely say that the University is a disaster. It has no student union at all (just a tiny shop with a dead cafe), it gives you empty promises when you apply. We were promised to be tought with the best up to date hardware but ended up learning to code on already discontinued PSvita. The course in general is unorganised, it changes all the time and you feel like a laboratory rat. No staff that actually cares about their job, impossible to get references, awfully tiny gym, University is too small to form any good societies, difficult to find friends. Everyone treats depression as a normal thing and excpect you to have it. The queue to see the councelling is too long so you might not even be able to seek for help, no way of challenging the grade received, no clear marking scheme, seems like the space has been redone only to hide how useless most of the staff is. Not to mention accommodation filled with rats.
Not much help after doing my course
Great Place to study and live!
I have had an amazing experience at this uni so far. the support network, facilities, PhD research and support their students are outstanding
not a lot of sports facilities but can use dundee universities for reasonable charge
I did my marketing and business degree there. Loved it. Had so many opportunities to engage with real live businesses and my supervisor was a true superhero- he did put me in touch with alumni all over the world to help with my dissertation :)
Not far from city centre pub and bars
Computing facilities excellent but not many social - but we walk to Centre and to Dundee students union.
Always plenty of places to study. Careers and support services SEZ are just great. Really friendly and supportive lecturers, and the library is cool. Not much going on socially on campus but it is close to city centre and dundee uni facilities which I also access. Students union are proactive.
Excellent university, brilliant lectures. Everyone is happy to hell
Avoid. The games courses will only teach you how to use frameworks. The faculty are bullies. They are the very worst people I have met, they will not help you beyond their limited skills which have not been relevant for 20 years.
Internet is often down which is quite bad for a technical specified uni
Had a very enjoyable time at Abertay, there's a few professors in particular that really made my experience great.
Had a really good experience at Abertay really enjoyed the university experience, the lecturers are great and very helpful. I got my dream job through university as a college lecturer at NESCOL, wouldn't of got that job if it wasn't for Abertay. Unfortunately I didn't get to finish my final year at Abertay due to the fact of working full time. Would defiantly recommend Abertay and have recommended it to the students that I now teach!
One of the best computer facilities in a university that I've seen, great people and really friendly staff.
Fab uni, quite small so easy enough to get around but big enough to feel like uni. My course is quite small so everyone knows each other which is also fab. The teaching is great and the library has everything you need :)
Abertay is a great university with fantastic staff.
I love it! It's friendly, highly educational and has a central location.
Small university with great staff, but struggles due to its facilities!
It's class but union needs to be better
Always on hand to help with any problems - so supportive.
Small campus making it easy to get around and meet people. Everyone's lovely!
The staff are fantastic, very willing to help and nothing is ever too much bother.
The lecturers at Abertay are very kind and supporting. There is always a friendly face around. Although the union is not the place for a great night out it is good for a pint and a game of pool with a few mates.
