Turner Court for me was, what I would best describe as a nightmare when I first moved in. I expected my accommodation to be at least somewhat lively, however at first I believed this wasn’t to be and it was going to be a stinker of a year. Yet all changed when I moved flats. Turner is separated into two blocks, Block A and Block B. Block B from my own personal perspective is the livelier of the two, and I found this out quickly. Turner is what you make it, and it is as clear as that. Moving flats was the single best decision of my life, and what I first believed was going to be an awful year actually has turned out to be the best year of my life. I have met friends for life in this accommodation, and my future house mates. Because Turner has relatively small numbers in flats (5-9) you begin to socialise in other flats, and thats why you shouldn’t be anxious of the social aspect of Turner. Honestly, it’s vital that you don’t hibernate in your room, and make it yours and own it.
Although not my first choice don’t worry it was never anyone’s if you get it ! It’s perfect location for town and the staff are lovely ! Because use are 20 mins walk away from other newcastle halls it does make you former close friendships- I have met my best friends here and I am so greatful!
Not worth staying here. The further accommodation from the uni, with the least social crowd of people. Would not recommend. Plus they find any excuse to charfe you, over £250 in charges at the end of the year for next to nothing. Save your money.
Turner Court is very well-decorated and modern, it might be a bit further than most accommodations but a lot closer than where most will live in second and third year. Situated above a Tesco and Subway which is great, close to other accommodation such as Liberty Quay, and only a 15 minute walk away from Quayside. Socially good in freshers, but dies out a bit as most do, probably because nobody ever used the common room if they weren't waiting for their laundry. No cleaner but honestly not a big deal at all. A bit expensive, but all student accommodation is, and a lot cheaper than the similar ones offered.
Although the layout of the flats is not particularly social in my experience Turner Court is what you make it, once you mix with other flats it's easy to invite people over and make it more of a social environment. Saying that, the common room is a bit dull and so it isn't really a space where many people spend a lot of time which is a shame. The rooms are modern and have plenty of storage. The bathrooms are sometimes a bit of an issue, my shower backed sometimes and so did a few other people's that I'd spoken to, but it was nothing overly problematic. Laundry is straight forward and I never had any issues with it. Overall though Turner Court is a decent place to live and only 15 minutes away from uni.
Terrible halls. Small, badly designed, unclean, and maintenance don't do anything to help when something is wrong. Countless problems have happened in the first term due to shoddy management and I am still 4 months later waiting for maintenance to replace my missing draw in the kitchen, my broken shower and shelf, my broken lock on my door. The service is terrible for customer service, mail delivery and they are constantly trying to sell you things. Not recommended.
Overall shocking. Promised 24/7 security, did not get. Only on Random nights , and sometimes only even in the other building , who still could not be found. Parcels were stolen , water often went off , my shower remained broken (although fixed once) my whole tenancy. Rude staff , some were extremely pleasant, others rude and notulant. The distance is not a problem especially to the library and town centre , made excellent friends just make sure you make the effort to Socialise and get s door stop
+modern +lots of shops and services nearby (metro station, tesco) +good location -extremely hot all the time -heavy fire doors are loud and slam shut -very noisy due to the numerous building sites next to the accommodation (loud angle grinders, machinery etc) can often hear sirens from trucks making it hard to study -faulty fire alarms which have stayed on continuously for over an hour, these faulty fire alarms also go off in the night meaning disturbed/broken sleep - poor value, £120 per week and going up next year (2016/17) for what is a very small room -small desks, have to sit sideways to make room for books and paper -cheaply built, my shower pipe broke and the replacement pipe is the wrong size meaning the shower head no longer fits the holster -unreliable WiFi, had to purchase an Ethernet cable for laptop Overall look elsewhere
Totally anti social, reception staff rude and unhelpful, massive delays in getting back to us to answer queries. Ruined first year experience of student living. Miles from city centre campus. Wifi unreliable. Only one lift in my building which didnt always work.
Building is nice and clean and its great to have your own bathroom and shower. Staff are very friendly and always available .Its only a 25 min walk to Uni and ten min to city centre "Cant believe some people complain about a 25 min walk" Are having to clean your own kitchen ? Word Entitled comes to mind , yep real life sucks when mums not there The site is being developed so on going building work in the area bot of a a pain as is the fore alarm it goes on for ages . Communal facilities are bad , How much money would it cost them to put in a table tennis table . Building colours are to uniform looks like a office , How about some art on the walls ? Yes could be better room for improvement , but then again compared to a number of the other halls its very good
It's pretty alright, ridiculously expensive but I like the space and the management. But have spent the entire year so far with building going on - they're only building one pavement why is it taking this long?! It's unbearable and particularly difficult when revising and working and was not made aware of it when choosing the halls which would've been appreciated.
There are cleaners in the building but they only clean the corridors and the stairs, so you have to clean everything inside of your flat yourself, which can be time consuming and hard to keep on top of, so cleaners seem pointless considering the amount of money we are paying. Also, it's a good 20 minute walk to uni and to the library, so you always have to motivate yourself to go and study. There is only 1 common room between two blocks of flats (so around 230 people) which has 1 pool table and 1 sofa with a tv, and a few washing machines, which no one uses. The reception also got 'closed' after around 2 months of it being open only a few hours a week, so we now have to use the reception in the building behind us instead.
It's a lot of money for what you actually get, especially having no cleaner. The walk to uni is very long, and walking through the housing estate when its dark does not feel safe at all. I have been approached a couple of times by total strangers making odd comments- one was wondering at 6pm in the dark in a dressing gown. The building itself is good quality and its great socially but thats about it.
Too far away from Uni, overpriced considering there are cheaper accommodations closer to the university which have weekly cleaners. Facilities are new, but over time this will inevitably become worse as nothing is new forever. Only good things are the tesco express in the building and the atm. Disappointed with number of washers/dryers, and the payment method for this service. Disappointed that the office (supposedly 24/7) has been moved to Rosedale Court which we have no access to. Termly inspections unhelpful and often unfair.
No cleaning, antisocial design, and miles away from anywhere we need to go. Routine fire alarm checks at antisocial times. Then they crucify you on the deposit at the end, and that is after £5000 a year. They know that we didn't choose it and we are forced to go if we want any accommodation so they do what they want.
Constant building work, basic kitchen appliances, ugly coloured walls and unhelpful night staff combined with one of the most expensive weekly student rents I know make Turner Court one of the worst value-for-money student halls there are. On a positive note, the staff during the day are helpful and friendly, and the building is always clean.
Promised a 24 Hour Reception and instead at max its open for 4 hours a day, parcels no longer come to our address instead have to walk to Rosedale to collect and some delivery companies don't know to deliver there. No cleaners, and termly inspections which complain of minor details. The reception lady is rude and abrupt but other than her the other staff are all lovely. Maintenance fix any problems easily. No body uses the social spaces and security complains if doors between flats are left open which discourages us socialising between flats. Rooms are big enough and bathrooms and kitchens are lovely although six bed flats are not designed for socialising. A nice 10 minute walk away from Uni, but no where near other Newcastle Uni accommodations instead in between all Northumbria Uni accommodation and a good 25 minute walk to nightlife, but taxis are cheap! You pay a lot for very little especially now we don't have a operating reception. Definitely not party central.
You need your keys to get out if you're in Block B which gets REALLY annoying, the doors slam loads and are really heavy. The common area is pretty average but there is a TV, and there's no cleaners ever but they get really annoyed in flat inspections if there is ANY mess. The only benefit is the Tesco downstairs but they don't stock coke very well

Better than most accomadation +Huge amounts of storage - under the bed (accessible by lifting the mattress)/ on top and in the wardrobe/ drawers +Heaters in each room - turned on for max 2hs each time (you can keep turning it on) +Modern looking -Distance from the uni/main high street - 20 min walk/ 7 min bike ride -Flat layout is pretty anti-social -First few weeks has practice fire alarms where you HAVE to exit building/ fire alarms every Tuesday after that where you don't -Termly inspections (though non-invasive) -If you don't have a bike you don't have access to the side entrance which makes it a hassle to get to block B -No full length mirror - large bathroom one and a smaller one in the wardrobe
Staff are friendly but facilites such as the WiFi and washing machines are managed externally and so it is a hassle to get some things sorted out! Also they will take the majority of your deposit off you no matter what condition you leave your flat in
No cleaning, termly inspections. No one uses the common room. Not designed for socializing really, small flats and heavy doors, but as long as you make an effort to meet neighbours you'll be fine. Location worst thing about it - it's a 20 minute walk from the main campus. Decent size but not too big so you recognize/know most people. Compared to Park Terrace/Liberty Plaza/The View it's not as nice.
A 20 minute walk away from the university and most of town, so similar to others but no one ever knows where it is. No cleaners. No one uses the common room. It's not really designed to be a social place - small flats and heavy doors - but as long as you make an effort you'll be fine. Despite how expensive it is it's not even really nice like Park Terrace/Liberty Plaza/The View.
