I couldn’t recommended the University of Derby high enough. Really enjoying the vibe of the uni and how I feel part of a group within my society. The university has incredible facilities and is one of the main reason I picked this uni. Couldn’t have asked for a better start to University life.

There's always something to do at Derby and plenty of space to study or hang out.
I couldn’t recommended the University of Derby high enough. Really enjoying the vibe of the uni and how I feel part of a group within my society. The university has incredible facilities and is one of the main reason I picked this uni. Couldn’t have asked for a better start to University life.
Really good experience socially. You meet people everyday and make really good friends and connections
I'm happy to be here cause I have the chance to experience a lot
I really like the university, the WiFi could be improved as it's not the most reliable, but I like the campus a lot. We've recently had gorgeous new buildings and the on site gym is impressive at the main campus. The specialist facilities are really exciting and constantly being upgraded and improved. The Union runs the clubs and societies and they're really good. There's a lot of choice. I haven't spoken much with the careers service but I've heard good things.
The university is broke. Wouldn’t recommend coming here. Sports facilities are lacking. No track/athletics, on site swimming pool, poor quality tennis courts, hard to book slots for the sports hall, broken basketball hoops and more. Have to pay for UniBus this year - it used to be free. 265 staff redundancies. 1st year engineering practicals are useless: had a 1 hour tutorial on using standard rulers and vernier callipers. Latest the grounds are open is midnight. Not many initiatives to gain extra experience for CV besides a few challenges - minimal STEM societies to choose from. A pro is that classes are small so always will get a seat.
Overall it is a good university, the lecturers are supportive when you need help with anything, they have their expectations but those work only in your favor at the end of your degree. There is plenty of career related events, and the career team is great if it comes to updating your CV and recommendations.
The university has good facilities, and the library is open till late during exam periods with access to various recourses.
Overall an amazing campus and it has everything you need. Really enjoying my time at derby uni.
The facilities at Kedleston Road are great, though I haven’t visited other campuses to compare. I really like the library, workshops, learning lunches, skills labs, and how helpful the staff are. The library zones are useful, and the pods are perfect for focused work, though they get taken quickly. There are plenty of computers and the laptop borrowing option is a big help. The Student Hub is great for support, and the UoD app makes everything easy to access. The campus layout seems daunting at first but is simple once you get used to it. Food options are good but a bit pricey, though the kitchen makes bringing your own meals easy. I’d just like more flexible parking, as walking through the park to Markeaton after 4pm can feel unsafe at night. So far I am happy.
I am in a placement year from Derby Uni at the minute. My first 2 years have been successful, very nice campuses, students unions meet regularly yet not many great places in Derby to go (not their fault). Despite me getting my placement, there was no mention until May (which was way too late for people) where they asked who had a placement year. We were asked who had a placement year this year, only I put my hand up. It is a good uni but for a placement year, I did have to do it all myself, but they were very supportive once I got it.
Great University, with great people and an even better vibe! Everyone is so friendly and helpful! I'm really enjoying my time there at the moment.
Uhhh welll what can i say as an international student it has been really easy for me as my teachers are very supportive the overall vibe of the place is fantastic
Facilities are up to date, and the university has fantastic staff teaching lecture content. Members of faculty are always encouraging and helpful with an approachable demeanor.
it’s an alright university, the campuses are scattered throughout the city just don’t have high hopes for eduroam to work all the time as a WiFi connection so make sure you have data
Not been here long but so far the staff are very friendly and the rooms are nice
Good university lecturers are very good and dedicated to teaching
The uni is quite pretty and student are nice.
The university has good facilities. There are lots of spaces to study and it’s easy to access.
Not had any difficulties, if have staff has been easy to talk to and/or been redirected.
Perfect for new and returning students
good uni in a nice area, the lecturers are easy to get ahold of
all facilities and campuses are kept tidy and cleaned often
The university is great so far, everyone I have encountered is really nice and the environment itself is a really nice place to be around

Thanks so much for your feedback, that's really great to hear!
Great uni campus. Has everything you need and has an amazing library and study spaces. Great access to student support and careers services.

Thank you for leaving a review! We’re delighted to hear you’re enjoying the campus, library, study spaces and the support from our student and careers services.
Never really interacted with the student union or careers services , The clubs are good if I had more time however some are expensive to join and be apart of. WiFi is really fast and never really had a problem with it.

Thank you for leaving a review! We’re glad to hear you’ve enjoyed the clubs and that the wifi has been reliable. If you get the chance, we encourage you to engage with the careers team and union, as they offer great support when you have the time. We appreciate your feedback about the cost of some clubs and will keep working to make opportunities as accessible as possible.
There are lots of places you can go and chill in between lectures, and the library is useful.

Thank you for your review! We’re glad to hear you’re enjoying the spaces to relax between lectures and finding the library useful.

Great uni and accommodations .

Thank you for your 5 star review! We’re glad to hear you’re enjoying both the university and accommodation.
The wifi is so hit and miss at britainia mill that I often have to use 5G to be able to access Google or anything else

Thank you for your feedback. We’ve passed your comments on to the relevant team. If you’re still having trouble connecting, please visit the IT Solutions team who will be more than happy to offer support.
good uni, online side is a little unorganised, but not necessarily the university’s fault.

We're glad you're enjoing it here - if you have any specific feedback that you would like to send to us, please email students@derby.ac.uk so we can take action.
Student union have tried to engage with students, but not covered all students, only felt like they did stuff they wanted and less of what the students would have wanted

Thank you for your feedback. Please could you email any further thoughts to info@derbyunion.co.uk, who will be able to share them with the relevant team. The Union of Students is always looking to engage with students and ensure their activities reflect student interests, so your input is very valuable.
I like the variety of clubs and societies you can join. All are welcoming and supportive of everyone from my experience

Thank you for your review! We’re glad to hear you’re enjoying the variety of clubs and societies and that you’ve found them welcoming and supportive.
Had a great second year meeting a great group of people and never felt bored this year with many activities and sports that were accessible. The course was very engaging also with lectures being hands on and varied keeping it fresh.

Thank you for leaving a review! We’re glad you enjoy the outdoor spaces and the variety of food and drink options. We appreciate your feedback about the wifi and are continually working to improve connectivity across campus. I love living in halls there's so much to do and the staff are extremely helpful when you are struggling. Living at St Chris has been the best experience I have ever had and recommended it to anyone

Thank you for your lovely 5 star review! We’re so pleased to hear you’re enjoying life in halls and that our staff have been able to support you. It’s wonderful to know that halls has been such a great experience for you.
Shops in campuses are super useful.

Thank you for leaving a review! We’re happy to hear the campus shops are useful.
Good university with great facilities and staff. I’ve only marked it down a little as the library was removed from our campus building which was a real shame, but the librarians have gone above and beyond to bridge the gap between the main library and our campus building.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review! We’re delighted you value our facilities and staff. We’re glad to hear our librarians have been able to support you and help bridge that gap. To make it easy for you to access the materials you need, you can also request books to be collected from Britannia Mill and Chesterfield via 'click and collect' library book lockers. very clean campus and supportive student union

Thank you for your review. We are glad that you appreciate our clean estate and our supportive Union of Students.
A really good uni overall, I enjoy my course and the lecturers are knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I think the halls are really good too, however recent changes have made me disappointed, such as the removal of extended deadlines for people on support plans and introducing a charge to use the uni bus which was free. Both of these raise multiple accessibility issues and for a uni who certainly used to have pride in its accessibility, I am disappointed and frankly disgusted

Thank you for your feedback, we’re glad to hear you enjoy your course and value your lecturers and accommodation. We understand your concerns around recent changes. Reintroducing Unibus fares supports our financial and environmental sustainability goals, brings us in line with other universities and allows us to improve the service for those who rely on it most. We’re also maintaining the night service and introducing discounted off-peak fares in winter. For disabled students, a range of travel support is available, and we've brought all this information together here: We also recognise the impact of changes to academic support plans and are reviewing these to ensure accessibility remains a priority. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts - your feedback helps us continue to improve.

It’s great to know that the support, facilities and staff have made a real difference for you. We’re proud to be part of your journey and wish you continued success!
I like my campus however it lacks places to go we have one blends and the food is limited however one of the staff Alex is absolutely amazing he is so kind and always makes my day when I see him there

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! We’re glad you enjoy your time on campus and appreciate your kind words about Alex. To improve the food experience, we’ve expanded our ‘Concept’ food bar to include more African and Indian themed dishes, changed suppliers to offer a wider variety of sandwiches (including more halal options), and added a pizza offer at Kedleston Road for better value and variety. Plus, there’s now a Peri chicken-based menu at Markeaton Street. We hope these changes make your campus experience even better!

Overall I’m only in the study room at uni, I’m not in the clubs but I do attend some of the socials and overall it’s a solid way to network.

Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s great to hear that you’re making the most of the study spaces and getting involved in socials when you can. Sounds like you’ve found a great balance and networking is definitely a big bonus!👏
Very good enjoyed my time here thoroughly.

Thank you for your review, it's lovely to hear that you've enjoyed your time at Derby. Dont forget about our careers continued support of our three-year promise: https://www.derby.ac.uk/study/employability/three-year-promise/.
Haven’t been too successful in the societies or clubs. Not enough for the diverse range of interests at the uni. Don’t get involved with the students union but have a job because of the employment agency. Facilities for my cours (photography) are some of the best nationally.

Thanks for sharing your experience! It's great to hear that you're making the most of our fantastic photography facilities. It’s unfortunate that the current societies and clubs haven’t matched your interests. It’s worth noting that there's a wide range of over 70 sports clubs and societies at the university, all run by students and supported by the Union of Students. If nothing quite fits, you even have the option to create your own! It’s great to hear you’ve also found work through the Careers and Employment Service – that’s a solid way to build experience alongside your studies.
I’m really excited for the refurbished

That’s awesome to hear - so are we! 🎉 We can’t wait for you to see the new Cavendish Building (business school) and Bioscience Superlab. There's exciting facilities on the horizon.

The University of Derby is a great place to study, with clean facilities and plenty of option for extracurricular activities. The union is amazing and ensures that you have the best time possible during your university years.

Great internet speeds, careers service doesn't have much jobs for ethnicity minority.

Thank you for your feedback! We’re glad you’re happy with the internet speeds. The Careers and Employment Service at the University of Derby supports students and graduates with career planning, job searching, application help and more. In response to student input, they’re working with programme leaders and alumni to offer more workshops with guest lecturers and strengthen industry links. We’re committed to improving opportunities for all students, including ethnic minorities and appreciate your input. Please feel free to reach out to the careers team who will be able to support you, should you require any assistance.
Support with actual learning needs to improve.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re committed to continually improving the support we offer and appreciate your input regarding learning. To help with this, we have introduced a new and efficient booking system for Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) sessions - information about your PAT tutor can be found in the PAT tile on UDo. Additionally, our Develop@Derby platform supports academic, personal, and professional progression, helping students enhance their learning experience while building skills and attributes that increase employability. It also enables students to showcase their competencies and achievements to future employers. If you have specific areas where you feel support could be improved, please don’t hesitate to reach out so we can address them more effectively.
The University of Derby is a great choice for hands-on, career-focused courses. It’s not the most famous uni, but it offers strong industry links and a supportive student experience. Perfect if you want a practical education in a friendly, smaller city.

Thank you for your thoughtful review! It’s great to hear that you’ve had a positive experience with the hands-on, career-focused courses at the University of Derby. The strong industry links and supportive student experience really make a difference. It’s a fantastic choice for anyone looking for practical education in a welcoming and smaller city. Wishing you continued success in your studies and beyond!
I enjoy living in the city centre as it gives good access to the rets of the city.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! It’s great to hear that you’re enjoying the convenience of living in the city centre. Good luck with the rest of your studies.
Amazing uni in general and I love the campus

Thank you for your review. It's great to hear that you #LoveDerbyUni and our wonderful campus!
The university is good and overall I would recommend it to a friend, however there have been issues with supporting students with disabilities which have been discussed with the appropriate staff. The clubs, societies and student union are good, however I think more work could be done to promote them and to ensure that people join clubs throughout the year, not just in September

Thank you for your feedback. We're really pleased to hear you'd recommend the university and that you've had a positive experience with our clubs, societies and the Student Union. We appreciate your comments about disability support and take this seriously - thank you for raising it with the appropriate staff. In terms of student engagement, we promote clubs and societies during our Refreshers Fair and we recognise the importance of promoting student groups year-round and will continue working on ways to encourage involvement beyond the start of the academic year.
I really enjoy living here. It has been a joy.

Thank you for your five star review. We are pleased to hear that you really enjoy living here, both our award-winning accommodation and scenic location is always very popular!
The university lecturers are not professional in the way they conduct themselves. They create deadlines for themselves to provide feedback to students on their submissions of work, but fail to meet their own deadlines the majority of the time. In addition to this, the standard of marking varied from lecturer to lecturer so your grades aren't really a good representation of the work you have submitted. To worsen this, the marking for non fulltime students is not anonymous, whereas the fulltime students are supposedly marked anonymously. Students are treated differently depending on their chosen pathways. On a more positive note, the technologies that the university has to offer are above average, however, do not expect the lecturers to know how to use or operate them.

Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear about your concerns regarding feedback timelines and marking consistency. We're glad you found the university’s technology to be a positive aspect and we recognise the importance of ensuring staff are confident in using these tools effectively. Your comments are valuable and will be shared with the relevant teams to help inform ongoing improvements.
I am an apprentice student in the engineering school and if I was to chose a university again, University of Derby would be on my black list. I have learnt nothing useful in the last 4 years other than if you query the integrity of lecturers you'll be met with bad marks from the specific lecturers. No one learns anything and most assignments are done via Chat GPT. If I was an employer, I would never higher someone with University of Derby on their CV. Clubs are not promoted and have to be seeked via emailing lots of people until you stumble on someone who is useful (rare). Even then the clubs aren't very fun since they are under funded and see no backing from the university, namely Formula Student. I think that a job at Morrisons will better prepare you for a future then a degree in the engineering school at Derby University. I am just glad I personally have not paid for the degree but my employer has wasted their money.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We're sorry to hear that your time at the University of Derby hasn’t met your expectations. We take concerns about academic quality and fairness seriously and encourage students to raise these through the appropriate channels, including Student Services, so they can be properly addressed. Apprenticeships are designed to combine academic learning with practical experience and we're committed to continually improving the support and delivery of these programmes. Regarding extracurricular activities, the Union of Students supports over 70 clubs and societies and students are welcome to create their own if they don’t find something that matches their interests. The Union is a student-led, independent organisation, partly funded by the University, that enhances student life through societies, events and support services. While promotion of clubs and activities takes place during Freshers', Refreshers' and Welcome Week, we understand there’s always room to improve visibility and we will take your feedback on board. Thank you again for your review.
I attended the chestfield campus and did not use SU, clubs or careers service, I dont even know what was available to us. The facilities were poor, just a small expencive starbucks, a vending machine and one microwave. The library was great until they closed it. I found it difficult to get on the internet so always hotspotted off my phone, luckily I had a lot of data.

Thank you for your feedback. We understand your concerns about the facilities and awareness of services available at Chestfield campus. The Union of Students runs a variety of clubs and support services, which are promoted during Freshers and Welcome Week to help students get involved. We’ll share your comments with the relevant teams to explore how communication and facilities can be improved. We also appreciate your feedback about internet access and the library closure. Please note that Wi-Fi has been improved recently and to make library access easier, you can request books through our convenient ‘click and collect’ library book lockers. Your comments will be taken into account as we continue to enhance campus resources.

Lectures are delivered seamlessly. Information is circulated appropriately. It’s just sometimes daunting to get through to the lecturers as an online student. Thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear that you're having a great time as an online student at the University of Derby.
i study film production and the lecturers are so wonderful and knowledgable. i feel incredibly supported by them, and i know they want the best from me, and it’s clear from the way that they engage with the class that they really care about what they do. i go to the markeaton campus and it’s so close to my accommodation (st chris) and has brilliant access to laptops and macbooks, and quiet areas with computers for studying when i’m not productive enough at home. the blends pop up shop is also great!! very cheap but genuinely the best coffee i’ve ever had. the facilities and access to things to help with my course are outstanding, and i feel like i’m getting the best support that i can get. i truly do recommend the university of derby, and i can absolutely see myself returning for a masters.

There’s is a lack of student engagement within society’s socials and events

Thank you for your feedback. We understand the importance of student engagement in societies, socials and events. The Union of Students works hard to create a vibrant social scene and we encourage students to get involved and share their ideas. If you have any suggestions to improve the student experience, we’d love to hear them!
This is an excellent university to attend with fabulous lecturers. It would be nice to see some more clubs and societies. If you’re a Christian, there are many to pick from, but if you want something secular, you are more limited.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Connor! We're so glad to hear you’re enjoying your time at the university and finding the lecturers fabulous. It’s unfortunate that the current clubs and societies haven’t fully matched your interests. While there are a number of faith-based groups available, it’s worth noting that the university offers over 70 sports clubs and societies across a wide range of interests — all run by students and supported by the Union of Students. If there isn’t something that suits you, there’s always the opportunity to start your own! Thanks again for your feedback.
