This postgraduate hall of residence is set back in the quiet grounds of the Kedleston Road campus and on the Unibus route to both Allestree and the city centre.
What are the top reasons for choosing Flamsteed Court?
We spoke to the University of Derby to find out more:
1. Literally minutes away from the University’s Sports Centre, main library and other student services, the hall is also just across the road from Markeaton Park.
2. This small hall accommodates a community of around 60 postgraduate and mature students in two bedroomed apartments.
3. Each apartment comprises of two en suite, double bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen including a washer/dryer and an open-plan kitchen/dining/living space with everything you need for hassle-free living.
4. There is a small car park and outdoor space. Adapted rooms are also available at this hall.
Rooms:
The majority of the flats at Flamsteed Court are designed for two students, who share a kitchen and social space, whilst still benefiting from having their own en-suite bedroom. Each room is equipped with a cosy bed, storage space and study area, making your room as simple as can be.
As a mature student I think it is the perfect place to stay. First of all the accommodation is located in a very quiet spot surrounded by trees and a nice meadow which contribute to a relaxed atmosphere. The site and the residents are very calm, which is perfect to concentrate on your studies. The best thing is that it is located on Kedleston campus, so you are just 3 minutes walking from university and it takes even less time to reach the Sport centre or the multi-faith centre. There is also a private parking. The rooms are en suite with shower and some of them have bath tubes. The rooms might not be very spacious but they are well furnished. The flat living room/kitchen instead is really spacious and it is shared with just one more person. Even if there isn't a common room on site, the living rooms are spacious enough to have small gatherings. There are not many events at Flamsteed, but you can join other accommodations events. Staff is really nice and helpful.

Flamsteed Court is a great place for those looking for more independence and to get away from the noisy nightlife that comes with other accommodations. The site provides plenty of parking space for students with cars and I feel secure knowing there is 24/7 security right next door by the university and plenty of camera coverage within the court. The staff are very friendly and do everything they can to help. It's nice being so close to the university as it allows me to have lay-ins even when I have morning classes, and the gym is only across the road too. There's a nice pub called the Jonty farmer, an excellent barber, pharmacist, and several shops nearby. Markeaton park is also right across from me and is a beautiful place to go for a walk or to socialise. The residential team provide events every month to get us all socialising and give us a break from our work to make up for the lack of common room. Overall though, Flamsteed Court is a great place to live.

We're so glad that you're enjoying your time at Flamsteed Court. It definitely offers a quieter, more grown-up expereince and is ideal for mature and postgraduate students. There isn't a laundry on site, as each apartment has its own washer dryer and although there is no common room, residents are welcome to join in events at other halls.

Thank you for your review. It sounds like you've really settled in at Flamsteed Court . As you say, it is in a lovely spot, tucked away, surrounded by trees, close to Markeaton Park and yet literally only minutes away from the University and its facilties. There is also a bus stop on your doorstep which is ideal for getting to the city centre or Allestree and there are amenities close by as well as two good pubs, The Creaky Floorboard and the Jonty Farmer.
I have lived here in my first year of uni, as a mature student it is perfect, peaceful and quiet. And if you are based at Kedleston Road site it’s right on your doorstep. While it is the most expensive halls you do get extra comforts for the price - for example, all bedrooms are en suite and some even have a bath and a shower, there is also a washer/dryer in the kitchen which you do not have to pay for. The small car park for this halls is also free for residents unlike other sites. The bedrooms are considerably larger than the other halls and while there is no common room the kitchen/dining room/living room is large for just 2 people sharing one flat. You do have to clean the flats yourself but as mature students or postgraduate students this probably doesn’t bother you and the entrance hallways which are cleaned are very good as well as the garden/grass/bushes being kept neat and tidy. Even though there are no social events at Flamsteed you are free to attend other sites events.

Hi there, We’re so glad you liked living at Flamsteed Court. It is so convenient for Kedleston Road and the Sports Centre is literally two minutes walk away. Also the bus stop for buses to other halls and the city centre is on your doorstep too. Since you wrote this review we have added a charge for parking. For 2023-24 the annual charge for cars is £330 and £170 for motorbikes. That works out as £1.07 a day for cars and 55p a day for motorbikes. Also all our halls events are open to Flamsteed residents.
Paying 6000.00 for a double room in a flat of 2 which will be the same price for all sizes which when some are twice the size as the rest. Some flats have 4 star hotel quality bathrooms and some look like there from the 80s council houses. Staff are great but not on site enough. Close proximity to kedlestone road campus is great

Thanks for your feedback on Flamsteed Court . We do now have differential pricing where we charge a different rate for the rooms that haven't been refurbished recently. We're glad you liked the location close to Kedleston Road and all its facilities , literally across the road from the Sports Centre and Markeaton Park and near the Unibus stop to the city centre or Allestree.
