The classroom in the university is a bit shabby
Academically, the support from the university is second to none. This includes general well-being and mental health support.
A friendly environment that has clubs/societies that suit all students, ranging from a gaming society to rowing, or rock climbing society. Helping the students express themselves and make new life-long friendships
My experience has been mostly based on sport (and occasionally my degree). Joining Team Leicester as part of lacrosse was the best thing I could have done and has made my university experience. There are loads of sports clubs to choose from so finding something you’re interested in is easy and in my experience all the clubs are so welcoming and friendly. The geography department has also been great through my degree and the tutor system has helped me through some difficult times. Overall I am thrilled that I came to Leicester and I am very sad to be leaving.
Great place to study. They clamp down on societies that the students union don't deem as 'progressive' enough. Aside from that the uni is brilliant

As an ERASMUS student coming from Spain (Salamanca University), my point of view is totally different from a local student, but it is important to bear in mind. At the beginning, the University of Leicester seems a paradise for students, providing careers service & support, clubs and sports societies and even University cares about your mental health! Obviously all of that kind of things are a pure facade: they just care about earning more and more money. It is not that bad, but my own impression is that things are not as they seem to be.
In the beginning, the University was pictured as a perfect place where they cared about students, their mental health and the fact that they didn' have any issue, but this was at the beginning. The facade of a university concerned about their students is just that, a facade. A colleague of mine was assaulted and the university did nothing about it, just make her feel worse about what happened and forcing her to move from the accommodatio she was living at while the guy who assaulted her continued living in the same place without any reprisals. So if the university claims that ar going to be on the side of the people forced or assaulted there is no point why my friend has to carry all the weight of the aggression. This guy was not noticed, he was not fined or expelled after BREAKING HIS FLATMATE ARM. She had to deal with stress, anxiety, and fear of crossing paths with him, while he was totally calm about it because the University proved that they were not going to do anything about it.

Had a wonderful experience here, the people working at UoL are always happy to help or look for solutions for any problem you may have. There's always room for improvement but I think that they take students criticisms constructively and work on making the experience here better.
Pretty easy to miss your lectures and still pass
Buildings are mostly great, some old theatres that could use updating. Too much money is spent on improving buildings that are fine, instead of investing in welfare or buildings that need renovating. University and SU don't work well together - this can lead to a lot of red tape and makes running societies quite hard. Societies can be lacking but this is usually due to bad organisation on the SU's behalf rather than the society themselves. The SU is slowly improving. Very very good individual staff members who really care about their students and their subjects. Completely useless senior management team who care more about lining their pockets than looking after their students and staff. Careers are useless for humanities subjects but great for business/science people. WiFi's fine: can dip in and out sometimes. Gym's way too expensive as an upfront cost. Lots of opportunities available (activities in halls/careers sessions/interesting extracurriculars) but these have to be sought out
Do not live in student halls in Oadby. Speaking of experience. There is cheaper, far better quality accommodation(I cannot exaggerate this enough) closer to the university in the city. You make friends just as you would in halls if you were concerned about the social aspect.
Not enough facilities to aid students in their learning. Students must pay for EVERYTHING in terms of resources, I.e. books, printing etc.

Could give a lower rate for the above categories, a visit in the campus would make you agree with me. I visited various universities across England none could have such great facilities as University of Leicester.
Good overall, facilities for some sports for example athletics aren’t great

I love the university of Leicester
Good uni, su is quite modern with nice layout and seating. Lot's of food places to choose from. Campus has nice modern buildings as well as old historic ones. Sports clubs don't get a lot of funding but the players make it worth it. Personal tutors are always helpful about your careers. Always WiFi 24/7 anywhere on campus.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at this uni and cannot wait to continue my master's here

Great sports societies but massively expensive gym membership needed to join (£250). Good location, very green and good nightlife. Student's Union and the University don't work well together.
Student's Union and the University don't work well together. No social care in a timely manner, 6month waiting times when I had a crisis and needed help and no personal tutor who cared although I know others were lucky enough to have a good one. A split in excellent lecturers who care about their students and feedback and bad ones who are only there for research and who see student's feedback as irrelevant and carry on regardless (Engineering Department)
Lonely times, if you like r&b music you’re in for a treat if not you’ll find yourself in mosh every night it’s on. The library is really small and there’s never any computers. The gym is nice but super expensive. Society wise watch out for any sports unless you fit in you won’t be accepted. Lgbt society is pure trash, it’s badly organised and they never have any events.
No pastoral support, no guidance for freshers, the English course is particular is completely lacking in modern texts. First year was a lonely time with no support from the university or anyone checking you aren’t dead in your halls. I ended up having a really good experience because I got lucky and met nice people in my course. As for the societies lgbt committee was badly organised and only had one event a decade, rugby was clicky and very unfriendly to new comers. All in all a good experience but there are definitely friendlier universities with better mental health support and a wider network of help for students
Such an amazing vibe on campus- has exactly what I would expect from a university. The facilities are state of the art and deserves 5*. Sadly the societies need a lot of work, I paid £5 membership for the history society but have had nothing all year from them- no activities/emails. This can’t be more than 1* as a result. The union is great and can easily be reached and their outreach is superb. The careers service is very much similar to this in terms of contact with students. The WiFi is good and reaches all areas, it’s free so I can’t complain too much but it can dip and in and out occasionally and doesn’t always run very quickly when I need it to.

Is a beautiful place to study, but some improvements are a nessesity. There are some building that are to old !
Excellent experience, can’t fault the facilities I use. Staff are generally really enthusiastic and helpful. Clubs and societies need more funding - especially the sports.

I enjoy uni life but my course is very easy and doesn’t challenge me at all I find going to lectures a waste of time so don’t bother Im able to pass modules with only going to one or lectures at most

Love the campus, it’s like a combination of a city and campus uni bc it’s so close to the centre Staff are really helpful and want to improve the course by listening and acting on student feedback You can see that our money goes into improving the campus.
It’s a lovely university and I’ve enjoyed every minute here. The opportunities available to students are incredibly useful and in my time here I have managed to hold a leadership role. Which has given me an edge going forward.
Staff are really friendly and are excellent at teaching. Facilities make studying easy with access to a wide range of utilities to help with studying.

The university of Leicester offers a great range of activities and the staff on campus are very friendly! Often you’ll find yourself chatting for a little longer to the teams just because of the friendly nature.
Disappointing, miserable and poor
My experience at university has been a somewhat positive one, however I have not been able to access eduroam for the past two years. Very annoying! I joined the squash club which was fun but also expensive. The SU is good, I really like the sausage bagels! However my university course is very stressful and has taken a rather large toll on my house, my support would have been good. But it’s to late now!

Good university but the closing down of normal SU pubs and student areas to build a Starbucks and some flats is ridiculous
Just finishing first year and I have had a great time at Leicester. Perhaps I haven't made the most of what is on offer here outside my course, but the extra-curricular stuff is plentiful for anyone that cares about that sort of thing. Computer Science at the uni is good and I have few issues with the course, and with the new building onto the Students Union, we're getting new labs for next year which is great. The campus is seeing significant improvements leading up to its Centenary in 2021!
All café's are very expensive and the medical building is far to small for the amount of students that attend. Support however is amazing especially from access ability

So much potential for facilities in sport but the university put the funds into ‘research’ and the current facilities are out dated. No focus on the development of sport teams

Some lecturers are better than others. The accommodation is pretty nice but a bit pricey.
The campus is excellent, it's compact so the walk is short but it still feels spacious, the SU is great and is still being improved, but I have paid money to join clubs and not been accepted to them, then not been refunded. Internet is always available on campus and is fast and reliable.
Over all a lovely place when you glance at the surface but technology if severely outdated especially in the geology department. The library appears big but there is little to no computers when inside and half of them are in private rooms/teaching rooms that need to be booked out. SU is the biggest rip off ever.

Choose any other uni BUT the University of Leicester. Seriously. These people have no scruples at all. They'll lower your grades and treat you and your work like trash, especially if you have an idea they've got their eye on. And the fish rots from the head. It's not coincidental that since the latest management took over in 2014, the University of Leicester fell 15-20 places in the league tables.
The people here don’t care about your problems. They’ll happily kick you out if you have even a hint of a mental health issue. The “support” is an absolute joke and all staff were very unreasonable regarding my ongoing issues.
I love UoL, very helpful tutors and academic discipline. The admin staff can be improved.

Average internet and facilities
The campus is big enough to feel like a University campus but small enough for everything close by. The internet is outstanding as you will be connected anywhere you are. The lecture theatres could do with a bit of upgrading but perform well all throughout. The services are good as well.
The uni is really good the staff are friendly and the campus is absolutely amazing as it is very clear where everything and has an amazing park behind it for scenery

Don't go here if you want to do economics
Overall, I've had a fantastic time at the University of Leicester. It's great for sport and has a huge choice of societies to join. The staff at the library and the Career Development Service have also been consistently helpful and approachable. I can't recommend UOL highly enough.
I have really enjoyed my time at Leicester University and will be sad to leave. I was drawn to Leicester on the open day because of the happy and welcoming vibe on campus -and this has continued throughout the years. I found the campus to be the perfect size - not too big or to small, and is easy to navigate. There are also plenty of food options and places to sit on campus for lunch - the campus even backs onto Victoria park which is nice to sit in during breaks in the summer! In terms of societies and clubs, it seems that Leicester has something for everybody - sports, courses or something different! Leicesters Career Developmental service is also worth mentioning as I have already found it so useful but I know when I enter my final year I will use it even more. They offer so much support! Leicester isn't the most exciting city itself, but the university is brilliant and I would reccommend it to anybody!
I joined the University of Leicester Frisbee Society years back, and found it to be the best hub for fun sport as well as offering a fantastic social setting to new students. As a connoisseur of clubs, I would highly recommend. 10/10
Keeps spending money on vanity projects, like the new medicine building and the proposed Percy Gee extenstion. However the majority of buildings (Attenbourgh, Charles Wilson, AHAA, Maurice Shock) are in need of serious updating and repair. They need to focus on what they already have rather than new shiny places. They are constantly cutting back on staff and merging departments (like History, Politics and International Relations) which causes problems for students and staff. They do not make any attempt to make courses worth the money for Arts and Humanities students. Since I started in 2014 the uni has gone noticeably downhill. The people at the top have forgotten about the needs and expectations of students at the bottom, which is showing in overall results and league tables. The Careers service is a rare gem of this uni. The staff there are genuinely helpful and the advice given is top quality. No query is too large or small. They helped immensely with my next step.
So far I haven't officially interacted with the University in terms of the Student Union or clubs and societies
University of Leicester has one of the most ridiculous rules and regulations where any modules that are not passed they won't allow you to roll it onto the next academic year. Instead they take you out from the year so that you could pass that year. For my course the lecturers and tutors are good for nothing! They will never help you in any way instead you have to refer back to their lecture notes that does not explain everything.
Good student union area and library is open 24/7 but there is a lack of proper meal facility since they closed the Chi restaurant in the early evenings so apart from over priced snacks and salads in the library cafe and Delicious shop, there's no facility to get a proper evening meal on campus anymore.
Very disappointed in how the learning by distance(archaeology department) is being handled. Based on this I would not encourage anyone to enter your institution. Very hard to get in touch with any of the administration in a call to try and work out any misunderstanding and when you complain they simply maybe you should withdraw if you are not satisfied. Such disappointment and a waste of money!!!!
Everything is great from the number of places you can study in the library to the resources (although sometimes it can take very long to get material for research, such as a dissertation - still waiting even though I already had to submit my dissertation). The one thing that I don't like is how cold it is. In winter or spring, sitting by the windows is absolutely a terror, especially if you need to do so for an entire day while doing uni work. It can get very cold in the computer rooms as well. Please do something about that!
What's great about the uni is how compact it is and how easy it is to get around. Being such a compact campus means you don't have to run from lecture to lecture. There is a variety of amenities of campus which cater to all your needs. There are plenty of food options. The internet is good around campus. The library is also a great place as it is open almost 24/7 and had plenty of study spaces that suit all of your needs.
There's always stuff going on around campus, something for everyone. The library is really modern and nice and is open 24/7 during the week but it's packed during exams which is a downfall. The student union is also really modern, there's lots of comfy seating and they've got a few food outlets including starbucks and a shop.
Good careers service especially. Only downfall is the lack of communication from my society - heard nothing from them after making the payment to join and have not been updated on events etc - apparently this is only via Twitter.
They are a huge range of clubs and societies to get involved in away from the traditional sports clubs. The union has an amazing space for relaxing in whilst at university complete with many places to eat a drink (Starbucks being the main attraction). The campus itself is very friendly and small enough so you always bump into someone you know. Great atmosphere all round.
University of Leicester is a great place to be at. A diverse place to meet new people from various backgrounds. It is one of the most affordable place be at in the whole of UK. Love it here!

The Students Union was spacious and comfortable with a diverse selection of food prices, though these often bordered on the pricier side of things. Wifi and internet always worked well. Wide selection of clubs and societies. The careers service were not much help to me but were definitely useful to others.
