I’ve been in the university for 4 years now and it’s honestly getting better and better Year over year. You can tell that it keeps on being developed and that they are doing their best to aid the students. I love the extra services they offer such as the careers teams, tutoring and so on. I had a week in which my laptop broke and the new rental laptops in the library were a genuine lifesaver. I’m not sure what I would’ve done without them!

Forced college system which for someone not interested just tries to get money for membership. You pay 9k still gotta pay for the gym membership. Student union is just a kiosk for buss passes at the beginning of the term with 1hour + lines to get one.
Fantastic experience, lovely campus and helpful lecturers
Overall a fantastic university. Only major improvement would be the efficiency and communication with the Student Union - doesn’t seem to contribute a lot to University life when there is the college system.
the only good thing about this uni is the wifi, otherwise trash
A self-contained concrete jungle. You have everything you need on campus but it is ugly and depressing
The best experience for a university undergraduate student
We're really glad you feel that way, thanks for taking the time to leave a review.
Whole heartedly satisfied with Lancaster University! Wouldnt change a thing.
Thrilled to hear it! <3
Lancaster University campus is its own town. Amazing feeling and vibe. Beautiful views.
With a whopping 560 acre campus and loads of shops, social and green spaces as well as places to study we definitely feel like a town sometimes! We love being so close to our home city, Lancaster, too.
I wasn’t sure which Uni to pick, but I definitely picked the right one. Chilled environment to be in, nice accommodation, lectures interesting and good night life.
We're really glad you like it! Thanks for taking the time to leave a review.
Lancaster university is simply the best!!!
We're glad you think so! Thanks for leaving a review.
Really good university experience. My department and course is really good, as well as the university being a very homely, friendly, vibrant community.
So glad you've had a good experience with us here! We love our University community
Like a s*** village separated off from an even worse town that calls itself a city. Very depressing and dull.
Sorry you feel that way, if there's anything we can do to improve let us know!
So far, unis been great. My only issue is how many of my teachers can't actually speak proper English to the extent that it makes me worried over how well they are able to mark my work ...
Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. If you do have any concerns about your teachers we suggest you speak with your administering department.
Can experience best campus life and studies
Thanks for leaving a review :) We love our campus and community of students.
Excellent support from all staff. Excellent facilities

Very good University, Management school have really good links with employers and constantly have them coming in to give us insights
Thanks for leaving a review- we're really glad you had a good experience.
Amazing campus with something for everyone all the time
:-) We agree. Thanks for leaving a review!
Having begun my master's at the University of Manchester I can honestly say, I see now why Lancaster university is top ten. The quality of teaching there is second to none, and while campus or the town may be an unusual situation, you can easily make the most of clubs, societies and your college to make sure your social life is great. Well above UoM and worth 9,000 a year unlike others.
What a lovely review. Thanks so much for taking the time, we're glad you had such a positive experience.
Inclusive campus, nothing further than 5 minute walk. Caters for all races, religions and gender.
Thanks for leaving a review. We love the community we have here on campus. :-)
The ducks are amazing and scenery is beautiful
We LOVE our campus ducks! We're glad you like them too.
Once apon a time somewhere in a cold abyss with a university sprouted and this university would go on to have a careers service which check throw everyones application before they where sent off
We're really sorry you had a bad experience. If you can tell us more we'd happily try to get to the bottom of this for you. Thanks
Most friendly and beautiful campus
We love our campus and the community it gives home to! <3
Everyone is incredibly helpful and there is a real close community feeling in the colleges
We're really glad you think so. We love our 9 unique colleges and are really happy to hear you do too.
Best uni ever but the spine is annoying
Thanks for leaving a review, and for your patience with the spine developments. Now that the spine has re-opened we hope your experience will be even better!
Great uni - very friendly with excellent facilities
Thanks for leaving a review! :)
From the moment I stepped foot on campus I knew it was the place for me. Everyone is welcoming, the campus is safe and tidy and the number of societies available is second to none. I loved my time at Lancaster!
Thanks so much, what a lovely review. We're so happy you had a good time with us!
Excellent facilities, outstanding teaching and great people everywhere
Thanks for leaving a review! We love the community feel our campus has, and we're glad you like it too. :)
Loved my time at this university. Campus based and collegiate are it’s two bigggest selling point.
We love our 9 unique colleges, we're one of the few UK universities with a collegiate system and we love the community feel they create on our beautiful campus!
A “” good uni “” according to chancellor haha
He's not the only one to think so... ;-) We're highly ranked by lots of independent sources.
A great campus for living away from home for the first time - feels safe and welcoming. Study abroad options at Lancaster are also fantastic. Teaching staff in LEC are friendly, approachable and happy to tell you more about their course and their research projects. There are plenty of societies to join as well as collegiate sports teams, so everyone has an opportunity for some kind of out-of-academics fun and socialising.
Thanks for such a thorough review. We're really glad you've enjoyed your time here.
So many services for students to develop their career.
Thanks for the review! Studying at Lancaster is about more than just a qualification. We want you to leave university with the skills and confidence you need for the future you want. Our careers team has so much on offer to make sure of that, and we're glad you think so too!
The first few terms were quite difficult however I soon got to love the campus and be grateful of how readily accessible everything is, and the community atmosphere that the university exerts.
Thanks so much for your review, University can be a really difficult time and I'm glad you found the University a supportive place to live and learn.
My time at Lancaster so far has been great. I've been able to get involved in multiple activities and have been given some amazing opportunities to find out more about my career goals. The society I joined, I didn't really like as I found it to be too competitive and I just wanted something to keep up my fitness as I had just recently quit competing in it and didn't want to go back to doing that again. I believe that all sports teams at Lancaster are like this though. Lastly, the facilities at Lancaster could be improved, with more space/seating being created in the library or signage to tell people if their bags have been left unattended for 30 mins+, they will be removed as that is unfair on other students.
We're really glad you had such a positive experience and appreciate your feedback for improvements. The library team are already working hard to minimize space hoggers and encourage consideration amongst students!
Academic staff very rude, especially in respect to the basic level of tuition fee that a student is paying; Many times I have asked questions just to receive a more ambiguous and confusing answer (wide range going from a simple workshop tutor to the Academic tutor of my department); Many lecturers speak poor English and pretend that recycled slides from previous years give you basic understanding about modules, while in truth they are barely understandable and readable (yes readable!!); Campus facilities like lecture theatre and library are fantastic, as for campus accommodation they are very small rooms and most of them they were built a long time ago, you can’t open windows completely for “security reasons” but the real truth is that unfortunately there is at least one case of suicide and “nobody” knows why...
Sorry to hear about your negative experiences. We're working hard to improve our campus facilities and take security and safety in our accommodation very seriously. If you'd like to talk more about your experiences please get in touch.
An excellent university, great campus, good ambience. The only thing that could be improved would be internet conection
It's amazing, great campus, great colleges and great people.
I love being at Lancaster, it makes me feel welcome and the lecturers are so kind and helpful.
Great to study here. The campus is amazing, however the town is a bit too depressing and there aren’t many things to do.
Full of scaffolding and building works every day. Been reconstructing campus from the 1900s
Quality uni, campus can be a bit dead sometimes but overall a 4/5 experience - main problem is that the student union are too soft and easily swayed by socialist mentalities GROW UP x
Its fast growing university and has high quality of teaching.
Brilliant experience; great teaching, good social life and perfect accommodation
Lancaster is a great university that offers a range of things to make the uni experience great.
Lancaster is a really modern university, with lots of facilities, activities and societies. The nights out are the absolute best, as well as the people here. It also has an excellent gym and an incredible library which is open 24/7.
Hope you don’t want to walk anywhere fast! Thanks to construction everywhere that’s planned to last for years and will probably go unfinished, you’ll have to divert every journey and I can tell you now your seminar tutors will NOT be understanding.
Very good university and very much recommend
The Law Department should consider filming the lecturers and putting them on to Moodle. All the people I know who attend other Universities have this feature available, and they believe it really helps them when trying to understand the topic as they can go back and watch the lecture.
The most noisy campus in the world w most slacky and not caring lecturers and uni staff
Best uni experience you could get, couldn't have picked a better uni
DESIGN THE SPINE IS THE WORST THING TO HAVE EVER HAPPENED TO THIS UNIVERSITY xx
I really enjoyed my time at Lancaster. I loved that everything you needed was on campus and that it felt like a proper little community.
Phenomenal, inspirational, life changing
Lancaster reminds me of home- the good and the bad. It rains a lot (imagine torrential) but in the summer the bad weather is replaced by glorious sunshine and barbecues. Similar to home, the wifi is... well, not ideal, though it tends to be fairly fast within the accommodation, just don't try facetiming while walking around campus! The societies tend to be well run and they create a distinct sense of family when you're really missing yours. The campus seamlessly blends urban and rural living, from the bustle of Thursday's market in Alexandra Square, to the quiet serenity of the woodland trail (with a mountain bike route!) Lancaster's social spaces (i.e. the bars and common rooms of each college) each have a different personality meaning that there's something for everyone (you can go into a college's bar or common room even if you aren't part of the college). All in all, I'm happy I chose Lancaster as my university, everyone here is lovely and I would recommend it to anyone!
Students union very incompetent Take weeks to do a day's work Very politically bias Institution against free speech
Excellent bioscience department and facilities
Excellent University with great support system. Highly recommended to everyone. Definetely great value for money
The student union are awful. Suppress free speech and forward their left wing agenda. They under fund sports teams and over find obscure societies. The sports facilities and sports administration are woefully poor for a top uni which they clearly aspire to be. Eduroam is cancer.
The university spends money on unnecessary things such as a redevelopment of a walkway to include fountains, rather than putting money into areas that matter. There is little to no help available to students, essentially they spend more money on making themselves look good than actually focusing on the essentials for a university, such as contact time.
Had an amazing experience and learned so many things. My only problem is it can be a little tricky to connect to the wifi. Food on campus is great, and it's so safe.
Beautiful campus, with helpful staff and lots of ducks
Fantastic university, all the things I could’ve asked for, the quality of teaching and content is great and the facilities and extracurricular activities are second to none.
Had an amazing time here, full of wonderful people.
Really positive experience for 5 years, very supportive staff.
The students union is a joke, it's nightclub is even more laughable. The campus atmosphere is one of absolute political correctness and classes are not a space for sharing or discussing alternative ideas to those of the mob. Great facilities although the construction work on the main routes across campus are still ongoing after 2 years. Campus wide WiFi is great and there is a fairly large selection of societies and groups as well as intercollegiate competitions. The college system can be a mixed bag, certain colleges and their JCR are an extension of the students union - i.e. pathetic. Avoid Bowland like the plague.
Amazing university, with all the support needed
Campus will be a building site for your 3 years at the University. Students Union can't do much because their skint but they have top Wifi
Love if here. It's in a cheap location. The campus is really pretty. And the quality of the degrees are set high in the management school
It's very good, as a first year I felt in love with Lancaster uni
The clubs and societies are amazingly wide ranging. However the student union take too long to respond to students queries, are poorly organised and uncooperative, to the extent that a charity run was cancelled due to lack of cooperation from the union. Students additionally had to organise their own grad ball as the union didn't create one that was value for money
Awesome freshers, good mates, chill life
The best university in England!
Just an overall good uni, highly supportive and friendly to the students and always keeps you in check
No idea how Lancaster came to be a top 10 University. Awful teaching, piss poor co-ordination between faculties, no vibe of being a place of intellect.
Overall poor, little to no social aspect and campus was a horrible place to live. Felt secluded and left out most of the time
Safe and friendly, quieter than most places
LUSU isn't great but Roses is awesome !
Profit orientated. Management school courses are totally bs I learnt nothing in 3 years genuinely nothing
The most suited place for me. There’s always things being run by LUSU and they hold loads of de stress events in Alex Square during exam season.
Lancaster University is a great University with a lot of facilities
If the money the uni was given was equally distributed between courses based on how many people did the course my experience would have been much better. Art students pay £1.2 million to the uni and still end up spending on average £200 a term of their own money for resources because the uni provides literally nothing - not paper, pencils, sketchbooks, nothing. And yet physics and chemistry and other STEM or Management School majors get all their lectures, textbooks etc included and FREE PRINTING. Shocking.
Campus is currently a building site which is very unattractive and inconvenient when we are not updated about diversions. It is quite frustrating as well to see the priority of a medical campus section when the spine is still not complete and the spine attempting to be completed in exam period! The student's union is a joke, they have has to cancel grad ball due to the backlash from students about the poor quality of the ball. They make life more difficult for students societies and seem like a waste of time tbh. On the other hand there are loads of careers services that can help such as cv writing practice interviews and they are always posting jobs and sending emails. There are tons of clubs and societies for everyone to get involved with and obviously you can start your own if you would like a new society. Eduroam has improved since my first year at uni and they are investing more into the campus Wi-Fi.
The lecturers aren’t that great(especially for mathematics), give you no study break to revise for 13+ exams and also make you do courses you have no interest in. The library is always overcrowded so there are no study spaces unless you get there really early.
Good for learning but nothing to do here
So far I’ve been having an amazing first year at Lancaster Uni!
From the collegiate system, to how natural the campus feels; you are guaranteed to find a home away from home.
Lancaster campus is beautiful, definitely the best part of the uni! However, I have no idea how this is “university of the year” what with the constant building work which has been disrupting lectures for over a year, and staff who care more about their research than their students
Do not regret my choice as it’s so lovely here. As in almost all uni’s there are some issues that should be solved asap, but still wouldn’t change it even if I could.
Spine still not finished and constant diversions. Student union fail at advertising and unwelcoming at times.
Lusu doesn’t stick up for students or support societies well. The university spends money on tv screens and poorly managed building work (they’ve dug up and replaced the same area 5 times now). But they refused to put Braille on their campus maps. Our tuition and rent has increased to fund the building works, yet the chancellor has a chauffeur and lives in a mansion. It feels like the bureaucratic side of the University is focused more on making money than on the happiness and welfare of its student body. That they are more interested in pleasing shareholders than creating dynamic education
Very bad experience here overall. The university is very self absorbed and only interested in generating a profit (largely at the expense of the students that go here e.g. through library and parking fines) standard of teaching Isn’t too bad when lecturers actually turn up. Housing system creates unnecessary and immature rivalry and mentality between students. Overall not a good experience here. Should definitely not be in the top 10!
Very poor quality of education. Lecturers not turning up on time sometimes not at all. Housing system creates immature and unnecessary rivalry between students. The university in general is very self absorbed and only interested in generating maximum profit (at the expense of students e.g. library fines and parking fines). Overall a very bad experience here.
I got here trough clearing and I believe it was destiny. Not a lot of people know about it because it is a quite young university (funded in 1959 if I'm not mistaken) but the fact that it is already in the top 10 UK universities says a lot. It is beautiful, with many beautiful buildings and stunning landscapes of green. There are an endless amount of clubs and societies which allow everyone to feel part of a community. We also have the #2 university wifi in the country. Amazing.
Exceptionl university with great studies in every business related subject. Rural campus with stunning nature and careers service that will help you to find a way in any career of your choice.
Subway and Go Burrito mean 5 stars
Great uni, teaching staff friendly, beautiful, calming campus
hashtag love lancaster, love a duck, love a social, and love crafty scholar. To the regiment. I WISH I WAS THERE
When it is a University again and not a construction site, only then should they expect higher reviews. If you want to live on campus, drop your expectations to average.
Lancaster univeristy is an excellent educational Institution
I love the uni itself but the nightlife is pretty repetitive with not much variety
A brilliant Uni to study and socialise in! 10/10 would rate again.
