This is very obviously the worst st Andrews accommodation by far, and if I have one regret about coming here it is not contacting accommodation services to get my accommodation changed when I got ABH. You spend 9.5k (the most expensive hall by far) to get some of the smallest rooms in all st Andrews accom, a s***** shower, a tv which you can't even use without paying for a TV license, rude staff, a terrible hall design for meeting people (literally a premier inn) and the only positive being 5 extra meals a week. Even with that due to ABH catering quality, it isn't even that big of an advantage, and certainly is not worth the 1k+ a year, if you get offered this accom next year I strongly advise you contact services and ask for DRA or something else.
THIS PLACE GAVE ME DEPRESSION. OVERPRICED AND ISOLATING AF. IF I WANTED TO LIVE IN A HOTEL IT WOULD BE ONE THAT WASNT REFURBED IN THE 80s

People don’t like this Hall because it’s far away but once you get inside it is absolutely perfect.
Good for Ensuite double rooms with a large carpark but there is a 10/15 minute walk from town, old fashioned decor and extortionate prices for what you get.
Don't live here, one problem after another - no hot water, no heating
Good experience in this hall, but overall wasn't worth nearly £8000 per year catered.
5 years in Agnes Blackadder, previously New Hall. Facilities are alright and staff are great. However, they charge us more than other halls for essentially the same service...
Even though it look may not be appealing, the community is great, wardens cleaners and everyone involved have been great!
Convenient but complete lack of socialness and community let's it down
Although it does look like a prison it's great having a double bed and ensuite. The distance from town is quite annoying but sometimes nice to have the space away from town.
This hall is depressing. There is no social life, it's very clique-y and so far from town it makes me not want to attend my lectures. No one I know within the hall likes it. We have to clean our own rooms and bathrooms for inspection (and they are VERY picky) and the heating never works, I'm always freezing. I wish with all my heart I was placed in ANY other hall, ABH has made me miserable.
Socially divided. If you're not in a group, you might as well be unwelcome. Cleaners are harsh and not pleasant. Very passive aggressive, as if they were given the job as a chore and not based on their limited capabilities. Location is great. Management is alright, the wardens are friendly and the porters are easily the nicest people around. Not worth what you pay. Would not recommend.
Everything's great fun apart from the lack of room cleaning and a sociable space for each kitchen that's not the kitchen.
This hall has transformed this semester. The new senior student is leading the way to make this hall a far more social place and it's working! Bernie and the rest of his committee are working hard to make this hall inclusive to everyone and he is paving the way for the next committee and every one thereafter to continue this

It is very close to science buildings but kind of far from other side of town. Of course nothing is really far away in St. Andrews

Rooms and facilities are in good condition overall, and the residence admin is functional. The showers (wetroom) and heating are pretty bad, though. Water gets everywhere and heating sometimes doesn't work properly, not to mention the fact that they turn it off completely during the day. Good kitchens. Added convenience of having a laundry room and a computer room/study area on the ground floor.
While the rooms are nice, its ridiculous that the university can force some students to stay in MUCH more expensive halls than others, even if they were the students last choice.
This is more general, but I wish we were assigned halls based what's closest to our classes. It doesn't make sense that a science student had to walk a mile from sallies to classes and a philosophy student has to walk a mile from dra and they can't switch
ABH is a lot better than it´s reputation makes it out to be. At first I was disappointed to end up here, but by now I´m so glad I did!
Pals, drinks and kitchen parties.
I've really liked living in Agnes, its a very large hall with lots of residents but the hall committee often put on hall events so you get to know people. The kitchens are hit and miss, some are tiny some are large and modern and you could be sharing between 6-12 people. I didn't get on with some of my kitchen mates but some have become my best friends. One of the best things is the IT room which is a great study room if you don't want to walk to the library. Also great location for the science buildings!
I'm not joking when I saw the hall looks like a prison- considering it was designed by someone who actually DOES design prisons for a living you can find that opinions on layout usually range from Crystal Maze to Maze Runner, maze being the keyword in this sentence. The value for money is ridiculously low. Imagine being placed in a calustrophobic Travelodge hotel room for a year, stuck in between a sex maniac and a drunk, with a trashed kitchen. For 600 pounds a month. To be fair, this is St Andrews, you could hardly expect more. The social space consists of a glorified staff room with 4 sofas, a suspiciously empty rec room and the smokers bench which is by far the most lively. If it wasn't for the lovely staff and the great friends I made here I would warn you like hell against it. The benefit is that you instantly make friends (or enemies) with your flatmates so you know someone already. I get along really well with all of mine so I grit my teeth and bear the rest.
