Tramworks Biography
Staying at Tramworks means you can take a fifteen-minute walk from the University of Glasgow or a twenty-minute bus ride from Glasgow Caledonian and the University of Strathclyde. The accommodation is located in Glasgow’s West End and is surrounded by plenty of shops, bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
You can skip your gym membership as Tramworks has its very own gym. The outdoor social space, cinema and common area are ideal for hanging out with friends. For those days when you need to get work done, you can use the communal study space. For when you are feeling peckish there is a vending machine on-site or you can grab some food at the bookable dining room. There is car parking available for added convenience.
There is a choice of en-suite rooms in a shared flat, which is perfect if you are wanting to share with 4-5 friends, or you can choose to stay in a studio where you have your own bathroom and kitchen. The rooms come equipped with everything you need so all you need to do is move in and add your homey touches.

What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

The location is incredible and makes up for a lot of faults. When I booked this accommodation, I was promised a handful of amenities (such as coffee, breakfast, and kitchen cleaning), but these were suspended when I arrived. The room has a lot of storage space, but could benefit from even more storage, especially in the bathroom.

Several days ago, one of the fridge freezers was leaking and was unable to store food. So, I asked the staff member to have a look. She was really kind and patient to explain the reasons for the damage and taught me how to use the fridge in a correct and sustainable way. At last, to my surprise, they replaced the old one with a completely new version in just two days! All of my roommates were happy and satisfied because we finally got the perfect place to store our food for the spring festival celebration. In brief, the service here is really warm and considerate and more importantly efficient and effective.

The location is very convenient, the reception is very good specially Poppy and Kiera. But they dont clean the kitchens anymore, only an inspection. There is a cinema room, 2 common rooms and study rooms. Not the most new looking building but my flat was nice. Some common places need updating.

The experience of living in the Tramworks flat was not very good, the flat had free breakfast for the first two years and this year it was mentioned in the check-in advertisement that there was a free breakfast (which can be verified on various rental websites), however, after the stay the flat cancelled the breakfast with no notice, and after pursuing with the receptionist they said that it was an experimental perk for the flat in the past and that this year it was cancelled. However there was no complete mention of this part in the publicity, which was very disappointing. Meanwhile, the lift in the flat has been under repair since 9.8 and has been expected to be repaired until 10.7, simply because of a missing battery...what kind of renovation speed is this, unbelievable. Meanwhile, the heating in the flat is not working very well due to the renovation, it is barely on at night when it's 7-8 degrees, so you have to use your own heating device to keep warm... Hope noone come next year
Hi I am sorry that the removal of breakfast is a disappointment to you. As the Team Member has pointed out this was part of a trial and was discontinued. I appreciate as a rebooker this may have not been noticed but it was not advertised on the website this year as a feature. I totally understand your frustration that the lift has been out of action for so long. We are frustrated too but I am told it should be repaired next week. Unfortunately the part required was not available to our lift supplier and had to be fabricated abroad. This has been done as quickly as possible but unfortunately lift repairs are out with our control. Apologies once again. Kenny

There is good infrastructure, breakfast and coffee and other drinks are provided every day, and every month the flat organises a lot of activities for everyone to participate in, and the staff are very friendly and helpful!

I wish it would have been better if I could change the dryer and washer from one company to another, as the dryer doesn't even dry my clothes in one go, resulting in me having to pay extra for another drying! And I've asked the tenants around me and they've all had the same problem!

great accommodation！it’s very quiet here and the space is enough and comfortable for student to live and cook. But I think the United students should be more efficient on responding and completing the maintenance requirements.

Tramworks always provides us great events which allow all residents have the chance to meet each other and know new friends. Our receptionist are so kind and warm-hearted that help residents live a better life at Tramworks. The Burns Night Scotland Quiz event gave me a very special experience to explore more about Scotland. Out receptionist Rebecca and Tony organized the event very well that we got chance to try out some traditional Scottish food! And great thanks for our resident ambassador Alia and Bingyan’s help to make this event more interesting.

The staff here are all kind. They tried their best to help me when I got stuck. And during the festival, they will arrange decorations to set off the festive atmosphere, which is very much appreciated.

The benefits are good, breakfast every morning on weekdays, coffee machine, but the gym space is very small, just a few treadmills and other facilities, then a ping-pong table, the corridors are not very soundproof, the heating is often very noisy

A cozy room, convenient to get groceries and is just approx 17mins walk to school. Lovely staff too:) love the free coffee machine

Staffs are friendly but the fire alarms are triggered too often. It greatly discouraged my sleep when i lived there and i would not recommend it.

Our fire alarm systems are designed to keep everyone in our properties safe and secure however I understand it can be frustrating if you feel others have caused them to be activated. The amazing service leaves me a deep impression. And at the same time，it is really a safe apartment to live in. However，the lift sometimes has problem so that we could not to use it conveniently.

This is my first time buying items from IKEA and unfortunately I forgot to write my flat number and full name as well. That makes a little trouble to the receptionist but luckily Tony knows my English name and brings it to me. The service at Tramworks is so good and all the staffs here are pretty nice. It is so fortune to live here.

I like the staff team here, they are very warm-hearted and patient. I like the shared spaces and also my flatmates. That’s such a great bargain to have free breakfast.

Tramsworks is located just 15-20 minute walk from Glasgow University and it's close to many amenities. Two of the best features are it's on-site gym and the breakfast provided on weekdays. Our Residents Ambassador, Bingyan, is very friendly and she organises many social activities for us.

The reception officer is very kind and helpful , they helped a lot in my daily life. The apartment is quite safe and clean, there is almost no disadvantage of Tramworks. I love to live here.
