It’s a good university overall but there’s not a lot of diversity especially on the SU

I love really enjoyed my time on campus so far, some buildings do look a little old/ not taken care of but the facilities have been otherwise great with amazing support from staff

Been so good so far, lovely people, beautiful city.
The University of York’s parkland campus combines natural beauty with well-equipped facilities in a historic city, offering a vibrant yet peaceful atmosphere. Besides, the Student Union is friendly and active, offering many choices of clubs and societies.
The University of York has been such a great experience so far! The campus is beautiful and really peaceful, with a strong sense of community. The lecturers are supportive and passionate about their subjects, and there are so many opportunities to get involved in societies, events, and student life. It’s a really welcoming environment, especially for international students, and I’ve genuinely enjoyed studying here.
I love my university! Inclusive environment is the best!
i love the university of york for its superb campus & great teaching
Gorgeous Campus, great for socialising and studying.
I have joined multiple societies since being here, and I was excited to see the wide range that was available! The SU has been nothing but lovely, and there have been many opportunities to get to know more about placements/graduate jobs after finishing your course,

Wide range of clubs and societies and a pretty campus.
I really love the uni of York.
Well constructed university which has all facilities that I need. Lecturers are engaging and answer any questions I may have
Got in through clearing and everyone has been so welcoming despite me not expecting to be here!

good facilities and a very nice area
I enjoyed university here a lot
Nice campus good for societies and socials
It’s a decent university but the infrastructure needs improvement.
Good university, which some really cool societies. The internet is also great and sometimes extends to the city centre.
Large green campus, friendly atmosphere
Enjoying my time at uni... making the most of it
Nice university with good lecturers and students and facilities. Different societies to make everyone feel among
If the wifi goes down it affects classes. There is almost no reception inside buildings to use data.
Lovely uni, lots of social events, good teaching
Good............................
Very good, met a lot of people and got out of my comfort zone
It’s a really friendly community
i love it so much here i want to move here forever
I have enjoyed my time at the university.
It’s great, love it here, the campus is lovely!
love it amazing uni!!!!!!!!!!!!!
good so far have not explored fully though.
Pretty cool, mix of outgoing and indoor activities going all the time, good and wide array of societies to join.
The campus is a piece of art and I really enjoy walking around
There are so many clubs and societies here - they even have a Boba society and a Ramen society which is so coool - there offer so many clubs for us to get involved in and make friends. So no matter what your hobbies its easy to find people with the same interests and passions as you. The internet and Wifi service is also amazing - i get the university pretty much any where in campus (it was a bit difficult to set up at first but they give you instructions so just follow that!). The campus is also very prettyyy - there are so many pretty trees, ducks and so much more. I share a kitchen between 15 people which is the only thing that's confusing me - but since I live in catered accommodation so far its been all good as we haven't had to cook a lot. Overall the University of York is very welcoming and supportive - they give you so much information so you know exactly what you are doing!
Highly recommend for disabled students. The student support plan system at University of York is incredible, the disability support team are dedicated, compassionate and efficient. In my experience, all academic staff are receptive, willing to adapt and through office hours you can access assessment and curriculum support. There is an issue of Campus West being less well resourced than Campus East but still very comfortable, and buses are incredibly inconsistent/completely packed, so when travelling to meet a specific time factor in at least 30-40 minutes of extra time to account for this. I'd recommend living on-campus first year, highly recommend Alcuin College (quiet, close to library, close to bus links, Campus West is very scenic with gorgeous wildlife). There is a class divide at the University between state-school and private school students, but it is a Russell Group and its (sadly) expected. However, this mainly manifests as ignorant comments and arrogance- easily ignored.

Thank you for your thoughtful review. We’re really pleased to hear that your Student Support Plan and the Disability Support Team have made a positive difference to your experience. At York, we work closely with students to put in place tailored adjustments and ensure you can access the support you need — more details can be found on our Disability Services webpages. Bus travel can often be busy at peak times, especially within the free travel zone. We work closely with First York, our bus service provider, holding monthly meetings to discuss the University bus routes, as well as any issues of lateness and overcrowding. The service is constantly monitored and improvements made where possible. We’re committed to welcoming students from all backgrounds, from around the world. Our University of Opportunity ambition outlines how we are widening access and offering equal opportunities for all groups, especially for those groups who are under-represented and face persistent socio-economic, education and societal barriers. If any student ever encounters behaviour that feels discriminatory or unwelcoming, we encourage them to use our confidential Report and Support tool so that we can take action. Thank you again for sharing your experience and we wish you all the best for the future!
Wonderful university, amazing passion for a wide variety of societies and lots of support whenever you may need it. College system is such a good way to create a community.
University of York is good but the Halifax college needs to improve a lot, in term of renovation building, facility, common room, and please do not expel postgraduate students of the dorm before the dissertation deadline.

Thank you for your review. We’re glad to hear you’ve had a positive overall experience at York. We’re continuing to invest in our colleges, including Halifax, to enhance facilities and social spaces. Postgraduate accommodation is an important area of focus, and we understand how vital it is for students to feel supported throughout their dissertation period — we’ll make sure your comments are shared with the relevant teams. Thank you again for sharing your experience and we wish you all the best for the future!
I always felt safe during my stay at Student Castle, and the 24/7 security desk was a big reason I chose this place. They organise many different kinds of events every month, which really helps students socialise and connect. I was grateful to be part of Student Castle Carnival a few months ago and it created some memorable moments for me. I would highly recommend Student Castle to any students looking for accommodations in York!
Great place to study, especially if you enjoy a small town over a big city environment like London. Noticeable facilities difference between Campus West and East. Campus West needs more refurbishments. Personally, it was hard to make close friends if you don't party, drink, or go to pubs.

Thank you for your review — it’s great to hear you’ve enjoyed studying at York and the benefits of our smaller city setting. We’re continuing to invest in facilities across both Campus West and Campus East, with a number of refurbishment projects already underway. We also recognise that not every student connects through drinking or nightlife, which is why there are lots of opportunities to get involved in societies, volunteering, sports, and college life — all great ways to meet people and build connections outside of pubs and clubs. Our 250+ student societies are run by students, for students, with the opportunity for all students to set up their own society in collaboration with the Students’ Union. Thank you again for sharing your experience and we wish you all the best for the future!
Lovely and calm place to be, I feel very happy to be studying here

The university is great, both in terms of academics and extra-curriculars.
Great uni, met some amazing people. Couldnt have asked for more
Here, I can enjoy the service provided by a very enthusiastic and professional team.
York is lovely city and the boulevard has been nice to stay here
I had a very pleasant stay in this apartment. The location is convenient, close to transportation, supermarkets and restaurants, and life is very convenient. The room is clean and tidy, with good lighting, complete facilities, and timely maintenance. The neighborhood is quiet and friendly, and the overall living environment is safe and comfortable. The landlord/property management is also very professional, and any problems can be communicated and solved in time. Overall, it is a very ideal living choice, I highly recommend it!
really good really clean receptionisnice
Really enjoyable, excited to go back as there’s lots to offer.
Love our university, and one of the better universities in the UK in terms of how they've responded on student union requests to divest from companies linked to Israel and the military industrial complex, though they could still do much more to divest and listen to student's concerns about financial chain links to war crimes.
Had a lovely time staying here everyone is so lovely and welcoming.
Everything is great, and they are always happy to help you whenever you need anything
The university is large which is good in terms of the facilities but it can be a struggle getting to classes due to the distance.

Thank you for leaving us a review - it’s great to hear you’ve benefited from our facilities, though we’re sorry to hear you struggled with distance getting to classes. Our campus is around a 30 minute walk or 15 minute cycle away from York city centre, with regular bus services, including free travel for students between Campus West and Campus East. The campus facilities are good, there is a Nisa on both campus East and West. The careers service are incredible - you can get advice on your CV, workwear to borrow, York internships, etc. The WIFI is good most of the time. There are many clubs and societies, if you have an idea one… you can create it!
Very good university, I enjoyed my time
All the staffs are really nice and this place R really close to the campus.
It's a good university with top level education

it's really good equipments are very good
I think the university has strong academic research reputation and has a beautiful campus.
It's good and it has all the accomodations that is required. It has given the common space for everything and it has great place for all the games. The tv room is awesome. It is great for the games and TV room is big. It is safest and nearest to the University. It has the big common room and great space to play and the PlayStation is really good.
lt is really warm, thanks! And l felt like home.Thank a lot.
The issues that the SU have not addressed with salvos is the reason for the lower stars.
Its very nice, I like the study environment
Have really enjoyed studying at York
It’s a very nice university but it has some issues

I couldn’t imagine being happier anywhere else than I am at York! Lectures and workshops are so engaging, staff and students are so friendly and the city is a perfect uni city: safe, plenty to do and easily accessible. Would definitely recommend!
York is fine, shame the uppers keep cutting the funding of the good parts of the uni

Thank you for leaving us a review - while it's true that many universities across the UK are facing some real challenges with finances right now, York has quickly taken steps to manage its finances, working really hard to keep investing in what really matters to our students: learning, student experience, and the amazing research we do. We are one of only four universities to hold the TEF Gold Teaching award and rank within the top ten in the Research Excellence Framework, a distinction shared with only Oxford, Cambridge, and Imperial. Unlike some other universities, York isn't considering closing any departments and we’re taking action to protect and keep that high standard to ensure our students get the best possible university experience. Thanks again for taking the time to leave your thoughts! Team York
Societies are the best part of the whole uni
Lovely campus, nice if you prefer more quiet than other Universities.
A positive university experience, no major complaints. Have really enjoyed studying here.

Beautiful scenery! Enthusiastic teachers! Friendly classmates! Everything was just the way I imagined it would be!
Overall it's not bad, but the QS ranking is not good, it's falling every year, and the location of the school is really inconvenient.

Thank you for leaving us a review - we’re sorry to hear you found our location inconvenient. Our campuses are located around a 30 minute walk or 15 minute cycle away from York city centre, with regular bus services, including free travel for students between Campus West and Campus East. Many of our students appreciate being a short distance from the city centre as our tranquil campus is renowned for its green spaces, lakes and wildlife. In the 2025 QS World University Rankings we’re placed 184th in the world out of 1,400+ universities worldwide, and 38th in the Europe University rankings for Northern Europe. We’re also one of only four UK universities to hold the TEF Gold Teaching award and rank within the top ten in the Research Excellence Framework, a distinction shared with only Oxford, Cambridge, and Imperial. On a subject level in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025, we’re proud to be have nine subject areas in the World Top 100 and UK Top 20 for Archaeology, English Language and Literature, Social Policy and Administration, Education and Training, Sociology, Psychology, Linguistics, Performing Arts and History. Thanks again for taking the time to leave your thoughts! Team York
A lovely campus with great study spaces, eateries, and places to enjoy nature. There are a million exciting and unique societies to join to cater to any and all of your interests.
I like York as a university, I wish we had the York minister as our graduation ceremony place.
Great campus with good facilities
