StudentCrowd University Awards are some of the most coveted awards in HE.

Our University Awards help give universities recognition for all their hard work in teaching and supporting students.

They also help future students make informed choices about their own university journey.

What are SC University Awards?

This is the 6th year of the StudentCrowd University Awards.

The StudentCrowd University Awards are based 100% on student review scores. It's simple: students review their university, course and accommodation across different categories (outlined below), rating them out of 5 stars. We crunch the numbers of those scores for each university, including reviews on university accommodation (but not private).

The university with the top score across each individual area is crowned the 2021 Best in Category.

The university with the highest score over all the categories claims the top spot in the Best University Award.

StudentCrowd then reveals the top 20 universities in the UK overall and by each individual category.

This is an independent award and is based on real students' experiences which create the university rankings. Read our FAQs at the bottom of this page.

Why are these important for universities and prospective students?

Over 1.5 million users have visited our site in the last 12 months to make decisions about university. Our Best UK Universities Award is the most visited page on the StudentCrowd platform with over 130,000 visitors in the last 12 months. These awards are therefore very important in the decision making journey of prospective students and their parents.

Remote decision-making has become even more important this year with UCAS’s 2020 New Applicant Survey reporting that 78% of prospective students cite ‘online review by other students’ as either ‘important’ or ‘extremely important’ to their university decision.

Prospective students are hungry information-seekers and are turning to reviews to discover authentic university experiences.

FAQs

Why is our university ranked X in the University Awards but Y on the platform's league table?

The University Awards are calculated using review scores from the last 24 months. StudentCrowd selected a 24-month timeframe for the 2021 awards to take into account the impact of COVID-19 on university experience.

The website league table is calculated using our all-time review scores, from when the platform was established in 2015 to date. The live league table changes every day but this is a static award to celebrate the achievements of the past 2 years.

Therefore, it is possible to have a different position on the platform league table and in the annual awards.

What is our algorithm for the league table rankings?

The league tables are calculated in a very simple way. We use the unweighted average review scores across all our reviews to calculate the positions.

How are the winners selected?

Winners are selected purely on their average review score over the 24-month period from July 2019 to July 2021. The average review scores are across our university, course and accommodation review categories.

How many reviews do you need to qualify for the University Awards?

To qualify for the Best Overall University Award, a university must have at least 50 reviews.

Can I update the image and other information on the university’s StudentCrowd profile as it is out of date?

Award-winners will be contacted with their draft bio before the public announcement of the award. If you are an award-winner and would like to update your photo or StudentCrowd profile, please mention that to the team member who contacts you.

The entry requirements you have listed on our profile are out of date. Can you change these?

Entry requirements displayed on the site are an average taken across all of the university’s courses using up-to-date UCAS data. Please let us know if you think these are incorrect and we will look into it further. Send your query to support@studentcrowd.com.

Are there any more StudentCrowd awards that I need to be aware of?

Yes! We will be announcing our Student Accommodation Awards in the autumn, so please keep an eye out for further details on our channels.

Editing bios

StudentCrowd prepares a draft bio for the top twenty universities across all our award categories.

Universities have the opportunity to edit and amend their league table bios to accurately reflect their university’s strengths.

Bios are to be no longer than 60 words and must accurately reflect the university experience and services offered. Amends should be in the third-person neutral tone rather than first-person promotional. We will decline any edits that are overly promotional.
