Find the best university courses by exploring our top 20 winners for degree course material.

We are excited to announce the Best University for Course Content 2023 is the University of Liverpool! Scroll down to read about the top 20 award-winners, so you can make a good choice when deciding which courses to study.

What makes excellent university teaching material?

The approach to student learning on an undergraduate course will depend on the subject. For example, a civil engineering degree will involve practical workshops, whereas a data science degree will be primarily taught using computers. This means that student satisfaction of the course content is dependent on their expectations and preferred learning style. Some students would rather have more contact hours and in-person discussion groups, while others seek out intellectually-stimulating reading material to dive deeper into their favourite subjects.

When you study in the UK, you may get the option to complete a year in industry as part of your degree. This placement year may enhance course knowledge application, alongside preparing you for work opportunities after graduation. Some courses require industrial placements to complete the degree, making it part of the course content.

Are university courses taught by world-leading experts?

UK higher education institutions generally have an emphasis on bringing industry experience and research into course content. Whether this is guest lectures from experts, present-day case study examples or field trips, all of these features help to bring course material to life! Depending on the course studied, material may be more hands-on or theoretical. Knowing your preference and learning style can be very important in finding out the right course for you.

Being taught by experts enhances the course value. For example, staff at the University of Sheffield (#2) seek to provide students with employability skills and advice acquired through their working experience.

How was this top 20 higher education league table created?

To calculate this league table, we analysed 24,041 authentic student reviews written on StudentCrowd between June 2021 and May 2023. When students review their course, they give it a rating out of 5 stars for ‘Course Content’. We used this rating for every university in the UK to showcase the best 20 across all courses.

The StudentCrowd Awards 2023 is the only university ranking based 100% on verified students in the UK, using their ac.uk email address. Please note this includes international students who attend UK universities.
