Decent. Every property in york is expensive so this on campus one is okay. It’s not the newest but maintenance is good and so is the cleaning staff. Very great location for all of east campus probably not the best if you are going to west campus though.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation

What tenancy length do I need?

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.

Should I stay in catered student accommodation?

This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.

What is a guarantor and do I need one?

A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.

Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?

Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.

What bills will my rent include?

If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.

What is purpose-built student accommodation?

Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.

Will my student accommodation be furnished?

Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Good sized rooms with big kitchens. Not local to shops (but will be in 2018 onwards due to building of new shops near by). Kitchens are cleaned very thoroughly, however bathrooms less so but still adequate - could clean yourself. Wired internet is excellent, but wifi can be inconstistant. Good for my subject because department is on campus, but buses run regularly between campus' for free. Computer Science student

Goodricke College (I bet all colleges in Uni of York) is (are) the best accommodation. As a student at Management School, it is literally 30 seconds of walking from Goodricke College, and I can maximise my sleep time. The cleaners are friendly, the porter at Ron cooke hub is 24 hours 365 days a year, the place is clean, bedroom is comfortable, kitchen is gigantic, accessible to city centre and Hes West because bus is very frequent. I recommend University of York generally :)

Goodricke staff did very little to help with difficult flat members. In my case, a guy sent death threats to other members in the flat including myself and he only got a £50 fine. I'd like to have seen something done about it. Every time I had a problem with members in my flat, I felt as if the staff were extremely reluctant to take any action even though several members who felt the same way went to the management team. Out of order, and made my first year experience more depressing than it should have been.

Have lived in Goodricke for 2 years now and am returning next year, accommodation is based on Heslington East which may be further from the main campus than other colleges, but provides lots of open space and modern accomodation (as an environment student i appreciate this!), maintenance team always on hand to solve any issues and cleaning of ensuites and kitchens is regular. Lots of regular events in the Goodricke Nucleus and links with other colleges and their events. Location isnt an issue due to regular bus services between campuses (which is free) and town centre.

Fantastic college, amazing people and the care the college staff give to their students is exceptional. The only issue for me was that my classes were on the other campus so every morning it would be a bit of a trek over to campus or waiting for the bus in the freezing cold. The other issue was the cleaners - they would continually refuse to clean any part of the kitchen even if the very occasional fork or knife was on the draining board which meant we could often go for about two weeks without having our kitchen cleaned. But Goodricke is amazing accommodation and I would undoubtedly recommend it to anyone.

I've loved living in goodricke, I think the accomodation is lovely! The only thing I would change would be more common room space as there are only two rooms between the whole of goodricke college. However, other than that, brilliant!

Fantastic quality and extremely well managed! A little on the pricey side for self-catered but it's better than most other campus accommodation. Can get a little annoying if your studies are based on main campus but the bus services are free and very frequent. Could do with a little more college spirit but I suppose it'll only get better with age (it's a very young college). Overall a great experience though, thoroughly enjoyed spending my first year there.

there are fabulous kitchens but very small rooms w/ensuite so worth it. Social spaces available but flats are big enough that you can generally have pre drinks/gatherings there. Location is brilliant for Hes East bases departments, definitely not as ideal for Hes west departments but not dire.
