All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Living here was a great experience. The location is perfect, right in the heart of Oxford, with supermarkets, shops, and cafes just a short walk away. It's super convenient to grab groceries or essentials on the way home without any extra effort. The management team is friendly and responsive, and I appreciate how quickly they handle any issues. I especially want to mention Sarah, who has been incredibly helpful and approachable whenever I have questions.
My stay at Cambridge Terrace has been really pleasant. Sarah, the property manager is really doing an amazing job. She goes above and beyond in ensuring that students stay is as comfortable as possible. She's been really nice and very approachable. The location is very central as well, making it a very convenient location for most students.

The apartment manager lady is very nice!
I've been at this student accommodation for two years. The first year had its challenges, with limited on-site support and difficulties in reaching management. However, everything turned around when Sarah joined as an on-site attendant. Since her arrival, the accessibility of services like package collection, mail handling, and the cleanliness of communal areas have significantly improved. Sarah's willingness to assist and her ability to provide that much-needed human touch have made a substantial difference. Her help with building maintenance and extra services, such as recommending moving companies, has been invaluable. Considering the cost and the prime location in central Oxford, this accommodation offers great value. I even decided to renew my lease for another year because of the positive changes. If you're seeking a place that allows you to focus on your studies while providing excellent support when you need it, thanks to Sarah, look no further!
The building is in a good location near shops and university buildings. The nearest Tesco, a good coffee shop, the Westgate shopping centre, a gym, and Christ Church Meadows are less than a five-minute walk away, which is very convenient. Sarah, the property manager, is always very helpful and attentive. She is on-site frequently, always easy to find, and more than happy to help. The building is well-maintained, although the coin-only laundry machine is a bit difficult to use and expensive, and the dryer frequently does not dry well. Overall, I am very happy with this building and would recommend it!
The property is located at the vibrant heart of Oxford, with supermarkets, shops, and restaurants at spitting distance. I don’t need to take any detour to get groceries done on my way home. The property management is friendly and attentive to details. A big shout out to Residence services assistant Sarah Gill, for she is really warm-hearted, chill and always ready to help with any questions/concerns. The room is a little bit small to cram a lot of stuff, but it’s really nice to have my own bathroom, toilet, induction hub, fridge and oven. The common kitchen is also maintained tidy on the daily basis for people to use. Wifi is really stable and fast. There is only one washer and one dryer for 38 students to use, and they only take coins, but I haven’t met any problem with that yet and I can finally find somewhere to get rid of my bagful of coins. The social space is adequate as we have a well decorated common room, and it can be improved if we can hold more social events!
The accommodation has an excellent location in Oxford. Bus stops are close so it’s easy to move around. The property manager, Sarah, is really kind and attentive to our needs. The rooms are of excellent size and common areas are always clean. However, I’ve had a problem with the water all year long (it constantly goes from hot to cold) and it hasn’t been fixed. Also, there is one washing machine and drier for everyone in the building, which isn’t very comfortable. Social life isn’t great as everyone is always minding their business and there is no way to contacting anyone. It a really quiet building, which can be good for some, but it definitely needs to improve the social part between tenants.
The building is perfectly located, in the vicinity of Christ Church College, Folly Bridge and Westgate, and also all the supermarkets, cafés and restaurants. The apartment is very calm and light, with all the equipment needed for a stay at Oxford. Sarah, the porperty manager, is a wonderfully warm and kind person, always there to help. I would definitley recommend staying there.
Sarah, the property manager and Clive, the maintenance manager are super helpful and supportive!
Really good accommodation both in regards to value for money and location. Sarah is absolutely amazing at making sure everything at Cambridge Terrace runs smoothly. Definitely recommend.
Good for its price and location.
Excellent place with verry nice staff (sarah and tracey)! I hope that more social events will be make
The experience at Home for students at Cambridge terrace in Oxford was kind an adventure. I arrived the first day and nobody was there to welcoming me, nobody that explains me where to go, which was my room, how to enter the door! The room was dirty although they have guarantee me It had been cleaned up by the previous student, there was spots everywhere and hair and dust...disgusting! . I asked for some cleaner, they promised me to find one and they never show. The laundry is on payment and doesn't work really well but nobody cares. Nobody is around except for the only person that open me the door of the residence the first day: the maintenance guy, Mr Clive Chapman. The only person who really deserve a good feedback in Home for students teams, who helped me going through all the welcoming stuff, who cleaned my room and helps everyone through any of problems or inconvenience which happens in the building. Good person and big heart !!
The best thing is the location, right in the heart of the city center next to Christ Church meadow. The building is kept very clean by the lovely housekeeper who is very friendly. The management team are helpful and respond quickly to help solve problems.
