Not worth £147 a week at all. The amount of problems I had whilst living here was ridiculous. Do not get a flat on the ground floor, constantly hearing people outside, cant relax in my room with the blind up, struggled to sleep well most nights as you can always hear doors banging and people talking in the hallways like their in your room. The main problem with this accommodation is the damp and mold. I had to buy a dehumidifier the damp got that bad, I would always open my window but still all my clothes, shoes and even bed got mold on them. Kitchen space is lacking, TV always turns off when flicking through channels, rat problems, lights breaking, weak WiFi that turns off randomly, random leaks in the hallway, damp all on the walls, one tiny fridge freezer between 3, always had problems with shower. Compared to other halls ive seen, Briarfields is better in some areas such as having an en suite, Modern looking and nearby all shops and places you need but not worth the price at all!!!
Not great. Had numerous issues with the maintenance of the building ie freezer defrosting oven breaking hot water going off, and mould. Received no compensation or apology and often had issues blamed on us residents? Staff at the office are unfriendly and unhelpful. Rats running round the car park too. Wouldn’t recommend and definitely not worth the money
Wouldn't recommend to anyone. I chose to live at Briarfields because it looked modern/spacious and i liked the interior, I also thought that for as much as £147 a week it would be worth it but I was so wrong. Firstly, there is mould round windows and showers, my bedroom gets SO dusty all the time despite me cleaning it regularly. I have had to contact maintenance on numerous occasions because appliances and furniture are so visibly cheap and everything breaks/hardly works eg: toaster, kettle leaking, TV turns off whilst flicking through channels, windows do not get washed on the outside and so much more. There are 4 washing machines between hundreds of students that live here, a lot of the times something goes wrong and is a nightmare to sort out. It also feels more like an institution than a home, despite paying such high rent, security and RA's will just let themselves in so it feels like you have no privacy. Internet turns off every 10 minutes.
The accommodation is very modern and looks great. The rooms are a good size. I’d advise to get an en-suite room as the shared bathrooms are not great. They are hard to vent out and this can cause a damp problem. There is a cleaner at the accommodation but they only clean the stairs outside of the flats. The location is great as you are right by the student union, and a 5 minute walk from the uni itself. The closest supermarket is ASDA at a 15 minute walk away.
I found this accommodation very nice, there are some defects on the walls or the door but overall experience was great. Met amazing people and socia side of it was very great. I’d warn you that there has been flooding in the flat 1 in C block so I’d bare that in mind. The accommodation staff were mostly polite and helpfulish, sometimes it took them a while to sort an issue out but overall they were helpful. Security of the building were nice and understanding but also acted on any noise complaints. The internet was mostly okay but sometimes has its problems that usually didn’t last too long. Kitchens are a bit too small for 7 people but it hardly happened that everyone was in the kitchen at the same time so you can live with it. En-suite bedrooms had some mould in them unfortunately but staff were sorting it out if it occurred. I’d recommend this hall of residence to any 1at year students or even older students wanting to live in halls.
Only stay here if you want security letting themselves into your halls and aggressively threatening you. Bunch of criminals, I think theyre all retired bouncers with their licenses taken from them. no one at this university cares about you or your friends. the place Is dirty and cliquey. you will find it hard to make friends here. go to Cavendish halls. much better atmosphere, friendlier people and gets cleaned daily.
I was constantly I'll from the damp in the carpet. Everyone got charged a crazy ammount for damages that we didn't do and when I asked for the proof and itemised bill they were unable to give them to me - but they threatened to kick me off the course if I didn't pay so I dropped it. Great size, social, met some really great friends there
Where do we start? Kitchen space is lacking. Not adequate for 4 people. Tiny cupboards. 1 fridge freezer between us all. Sofa's are extremely uncomfortable. Small TV. Social area inadequate. Hall management could do with a major improvement. Shower breaks and takes nearly a week to sort. Mixing nurses with regular students wasn't there best of ideas. Means that social experience was lacking. Halls could do with a good old clean on a weekly basis as most windows face onto main road and gather dust and become dirty quickly. Reception staff need training as manners are dreadful and don't know anything about halls when asked. Not my best of experiences.
