This is my second year at Opal and I will definetly be staying here next year, the location is very convenient for me and the staff are super friendly! I especially appreciate the effort the staff put into the events in the common room.

Excellent location; I stayed in a studio flat and, whilst overpriced, it was really nice and I had everything I needed. However, I had really bad noise issues at opal court. At night I rarely slept well. The doors from neighbours slammed throughout the night and there were constant parties with people drunk & drugged walking outside my room until 6am the next morning at its worst. The most outrageous thing was that during the week before my exams iQ, who own opal court, started doing really invasive building work. There were workers all over the building with hard hats and all the halls had plastic laid on them. There was drilling in the rooms all around my own that was ridiculously loud and made the walls shake. I even had work arranged for my own room the day before my exams and had to negotiate with builders for them to leave me alone. It was one of those situations that was just a bit wrong and shouldn't have been allowed to happen...
Opal Court, while in a convenient and attractive location, was far from the pleasant accommodation that it is branded as. It is 600 students packed closely together. You will never seldom have a good nights sleep, courtesy of the constant parties or 'motives' as they are called locally. It is also ground zero for drugs in Leicester. It is a guarantee that there will be a dealer no less than 40 metres from you at any given time, usually selling cannabis, cocaine, this, coupled with the lacklustre security, leads to knife-wielding junkies stabbing each other at 1 am outside your window. This happened 3 times a week for me, once a lady was beaten half to death, for which I had to call an ambulance. Overall, opal court is not a bad place, the building is beautiful, the staff are poorly paid, but charming people and the facilities are superb, if you are a student coming to university to party and get stoned off your ass, you will have a great time, if not, go private.
Hi there, thanks for taking the time to leave a review, we appreciate your comments.
Being so close to campus it is very ideal, all the management are friendly and helpful and there is always something social to do.
Hi. Thanks for leaving such a lovely review, these comments are great to hear. We are very pleased you are enjoying living with us.
It’s all messy and the management staff take no responsibility to tackle parties, drug abuse and loud flats.
Block C ‘ensuite large’ (refurbished in 2018): Pros: - The halls are very close to campus, a five minute walk away. - Rooms are very spacious and have double beds. - The internet is very quick and doesn't often buffer. - All the staff are friendly and polite, and will always try to help with any problems. - There is no cap on how much electricity, water etc. you use. Cons: - The walls are paper thin with no element of soundproofing at all. Any movements or noises of the people to the side or above the room will be heard. - A fire station is directly across the road, and the infirmary is five minutes away, meaning that you will constantly hear sirens, with the window closed. The train station is also directly to the side, which can also be heard with the windows open. - There are 600+ people in Opal court, yet only 10 washers and 10 driers available for everyone. Laundry’s also quite expensive. - The closest shop for food / drink is around a twenty minute walk away.
Hello. Thanks for leaving this high rating, we really appreciate it and it will be helfpul to future residents.
The location, hall management and having an ensuite room with a fantastic power shower have been the highlights of my time here. On the two occasions I've needed something fixed, it has been done within 24 hours. It's not the cheapest, but for me personally, it has been worth the money.
Hello. Thanks for this high rating and for leaving your comments regarding your stay with us, we are pleased to hear it has been so positive!
If you're "URBAN", living at Opal Court really isn't for you. I found that Nixon really supplied me with people who were like me. If by chance you are allocated this accommodation, on your first i would strongly advise you to go to Nixon Court. I say this because the environment at Nixon is very urban and everyone is willing to get to know you. Trust me. The common room at Opal closes at 11pm. The common room at Nixon is open for 24hrs, which holds FIFA tournaments. Can you see the difference! All in all opal is good, in terms of the rooms (en suite) and its 5 minutes away from the uni, however Nixon is too, but if you want to make friends quickly, Nixon is your best bet. P.S it took me at least 2 and a half months to meet all my roommates at Opal.
Living in opal court was a good experience, however, in terms of value for money it isn't the best. It was nice to experience living in halls though
Very good place to have your personal space and very close to uni, its literally 2 minutes if you're a medicine student. Great noise management and yeah if you have a huge party they will shut it down if its too late at night, but at the same time when you wil have a late night studying or trying to get a good night sleep before your test you will appreciate it
Perfect location. Had a studio which suitedo my dietary requirements. Felt isolated in a studio as couldn't enter any corridors in my halls- unable to socialise with others on my floor. Should be allowed access into other blocks better to meet friends.
Big disappointment. Firstly, the people working at reception are so bloody rude, especially one innparticular. I won't even bother saying hello to them, because all you've receive back is complete air and screw faced look. They have not made me feel welcome here at all. I'm reluctant to approach them in fear that I'll receive a rude response. My room had a broken ceiling light, broken raidiator, the shower plug was blocked and my hot tap won't stop running. If that's not bad already, the Wifi is so bad, its contatly coming on and turning off. Overall, the money I'm paying for a single bed on suite is not worth it. The area may be good but the feeling of coming to a place filled with rude staff is so off putting. In addition, I'm a first year student and when I applied I enquired about living with other first years and was told that this would be the case. LIES. Also, good luck finding a corner shop nearby. It's s***.
Location is perfect, but very quiet
Really anal about having visitors over, even ones who are already in university accommodation, some security are not very nice. However very close to campus, no need to take the bus, large bed, nice ensuite. Some blocks are better socially than others
It was good but random placements made it hard in first year, as wasn't easy going to other flats to make friends as all my flatmates were in 3rd year. There's is also no television and does not have a modern look. Opal has many competitors, code, the summit ... Zone properties but have made no efforts to keep up. It adds value especially because these other places are either the same price or just slightly more expensive. So aesthetics is something that drastically needs to improve.
Terrible time living here. Nightmare roommate.
No community or fun at opal court! Needs modernising but very good location
