It has a great social space which includes a bar, table tennis table and pool table with tvs to watch sports and a study area attached for when work needs getting done. Paid for a premium double room (no ensuite) and was not worth the increase from the standard. Radiator in room was broken and maintenance refused to fix it. Also a hole in the wall behind a cupboard which led to it being even colder in my room and leading to around 30+ spiders underneath my bed. WI-FI was decent, its usable. Location is great as you're 5 minutes from the shops and you get a direct (free) bus to and from Headingley Campus. Can't remember if there is one that goes to city but I don't think so.
The security seem to think they can just enter a flat when we have no music on to say the music is too loud! Even though it is the flat above us playing music. They cannot even justify why they enter our flat without consent
One of my biggest life regrets was going to Leeds Met (as it was known at the time) and staying at this place. I stayed there in late 2010 (but looking at the more recent reviews some of the problems I had are still there). The open day and online videos at the time painted a very different picture to what the reality was. My block was next to the student bar, which meant the noise at night was beyond a joke, people constantly getting drunk, screaming and deliberately setting off the fire alarm. The staff didn’t care about your welfare and I soon learnt it was all driven by money. Awful management company. One night in particular, the corridor outside my flat looked like a war zone, alcohol splashed on the walls, lights smashed and at 2-3am standing outside in the freezing cold with the fire alarm raging is poor. The location was good if you had a car like I did, otherwise not practical for either campus. There was no WiFi back then but the Ethernet connection was acceptable enough.
Kirkstall brewery is arguably the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I met the best, most interesting people. I had my heart broken. I had heart mended. Many times. It’s wasn’t uni accom. It was a home. If I didn’t choose this accommodation, I wouldn’t have friends like I do now. I’ve met the kinds of people that live everywhere else. And it makes me happy when I think about the people I got live with with for my first year. Plus it’s got the vault, which bangs for the first few weeks while everyone still has money. Laundry’s pricy tho. Oh and taxis to mission are £6. ‘You wanna know what’s so special about kirkstall? 50% is clearing and it adds all the personality’

To start off you get what you pay for and im in the cheapest ensuite room. Its no where near the uni and the walk to uni is 30mins and it feels like youre walking up mount everest. The management of the halls is awful, literally just walks into your flat and shouts 'MAINTENENCE' at like 7am and leaves straight away before anyone can get out of bed. Theres no cleaners for your flat which is expected but the cleanliness of the corridors is slacking as there was just boxes and rubbish on the stairwell. Socially tho i do rate it as there are loads of parties and everyone just seems to embrace the s******* of the whole place and ultimately it feels like a really crap camping trip but great since youre with your uni mates. oh yeah the wifi is s***, dont let them claim its 35mbps. it drops every 20 seconds, like no joke. I had to buy an ethernet cable for my laptop to be able to do uni work. if youre bringing a smart tv you will need one as the wifi seems to only work for a minute at a time
The flat I was in absolutely stunk constantly, an outdated damp smell in the kitchen! The shower curtain bottom is covered in mould. Cheap sofa in kitchen that was gross to sit on, everything is dirty and the place is full of spiders. Tap water is horrible so had to buy bottles of still water, wish I had listened to the reviews. Maintenance are spot on, they were always helpful and always were there to help with any issues. Wifi is very good!! Good location as near the retail park and near Morrison’s. However too far out to enjoy Leeds city centre. It’s not THAT BAD, but it smells very bad. Vaults cheap for drinks but is dead most of the time.
We were in the cheapest flats going, mould in the bedrooms and bathrooms, took a week to get our toilet unblocked, broken radiators, doors and walls had holes in that had been covered up last minute. One of our flatmates needed an ambulance one night and we ran up to security to inform them what was happing and they failed to open the gates for the paramedics after being told they were 4 minutes away. Overall staff are not very helpful but very quick to get intouch when the washing up hadn't been done, and falsey accussing us of illegal substances in the flat without any evidence or proof. Washing and parking is a rip off, so get saving and don't bother bringing your car if you're a driver!! Overall the only good thing was the Vault and their members of staff! !!NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY!!
This review will reveal why it’s also called Alcatraz... This place made me ill for 90% of my time at university with the constant mould and damp in the room. The heating only stayed on for an hour maximum and then you had to get up to reboot it in the morning when it’s freezing. The management were not as bad as some of the reviews said, they were kind and helpful, I had a problem with a lightbulb that bust and the lady at the reception said she’ll be up to sort it and 15 mins later she did. This place is like prison, for a fresher going into Kirkstall for first year I wish you luck!

Disgusting UPP were horrible always throwing there weight around and giving warnings for no reasons ie throwing a cigarette on the floor instead of in a bin. Rude,disrespectful and because they were bored decided to terrorise students for no reason The halls I were in were overpriced for what we got over £109 pounds for a single bed shared bathrooms and barely any kitchen space Nothing worked everything broke at some point including under my sink which flooded my cubourd and wet my clothes The only positive is the vault, the staff are awesome and friendly and I’ve met many friends from there Overall I met lots of awesome friends for life but the luving conditions were disgusting and the price is a scam UPP were out of order and just rude and unhelpful

It was to far away from the city centre to enjoy Leeds proper
The only way to describe this place is like a prison. However, I would have rather actually committed a crime and stayed in a real prison for a year than stay here. The staff are quite an embarrassment don’t even bother to look for your parcel even if you have proof that it has been delivered. Maintenance team may aswell not be there, every week something new isn’t working, however the time to fix is so slow. Kitchen is nothing shy of pathetic, with our ‘social area’ consisting of a wooden table and 4 wooden chairs, baring in mind there is 6 of us in the flat. The vault is decent and cheap but most of the time it’s pretty dead. Location is terrible - nowhere near anything. The buses to Headingley Campus are unreliable so you are always late for lectures. The one positive of staying here is the supermarket is only a 2 minute walk away. Other than that, I would STRONGLY recommend you live elsewhere, even if it means living in the city then having to get the bus to Headingley every day.
At Kirkstall Brewery you get treated like a child, they lose your parcels and lie to say they haven’t arrived when there’s proof that it’s been signed for by reception, there’s writing on my mirror by the builders which is still there 4 months after moving in and originally reporting it, the toilet in my en suite isn’t even fixed to the floor, my block had a leakage and water was coming through the ceiling above my shower and my bed, internet is awful at best, they give you a week long period of when they’ll inspect your flat and they hardly show up, the bathrooms covered in mould, windows let draft in, the heating turns itself off after 2 minutes, hoover was broken when we moved in along with many other things missing which they said would be included. £134 a week to live in a tip, would rather live under the bridge up the road rather than here.
This place is an actual prison, i would highly recommend staying in a cardboard box rather than this pit of dispair. The whole place is freezing and the heating is just useless, shouldn’t be expected to live like that! The showers leak, there was black mould on my shower curtain and half the time the drains stink. You get charged a tonne for a tiny “sofa” and a table and chairs which is supposed to be a communal space. I’d rather sit in a hole in the ground. The fridges leak, staff are useless and the boilers also leak:))))) dont bother
Horrendous, never stay here, get treated like a child, management team talk to you with an appauling manner. More so having to clean your flat spotless every week otherwised threatened with a fine is absolutely disgusting. More so recieveing just 20£ of my 250£ deposit back after a small black mark on the radiator costing over 100£ to fix is a joke. Do not stay here! Poor location, internets awful, having to sit around a dirty communal kitchen with old wooden chairs, aswell as having small radiators which give off an awful smell and radiate no heat at all is astonishing. If you want a good uni experience i cannot express how much i would reccomend not to stay here.
The best part about the entire accommodation is the onsite bar. Absolutely vile accomodarion, decor was old fashioned and plain. All furnite of cheap quality, including carpets. The worlds noisiest boiler! Sounded like a fog horn. Paid £104 a week to sit in a damp cold room, with mould growing from the taps due to the pipes being so old. The windows were put in so badly that cold and moisture were essentially invited in. Rules and security were a joke. Key problems never fixed e.g. our shower broke and six of us had to share one shower for two weeks! And this shower had black mould growing in the silicon. The only way youd get anything done was via contacting the union. If youre a city campus there is no university buses that can take you there, meaning i paid £45 per month of bus travel. Our flat didnt even have a social space, we had a kitchen table and six chairs, no comfortable seating or anything! The entire block i was in was clearing students inc myself but around 50% didnt care
WORST PLACE EVER! The bathroom was so dirty and the rooms are very old and dirty and it’s so far from everything. DONT GO THERE
I'm a university of Leeds student so was a bit annoyed being placed here, but I had a great time at Kirkstall as I've befriended everyone in my block as most of the other university of Leeds students reached out to each other before moving in, so we were determined to make the most of our time here, so for me the social aspect is good, however, I don't really socialise with people from other blocks. The main reason I'm leaving is due to the location (buses are not reliable and ubers are at times expensive, plus we all go to city centre whenever we go out) , and to be around more people from uni of Leeds. I'm moving to a different accomodation so I can't be sure that my opinion would have held throughout the entire first year. I also can't really speak much for other Beckett students' experiences Wouldn't recommend it as a first choice, but if you are placed here (even as a uni of leeds student) it isn't so bad. Laundry is also unnecessarily complicated and can be expensive
Only good value for money is the fact that it's secure otherwise avoid
The vault is dissapointing as not many students go so it is difficult to socialise with other flats rather than your own

Management team aren't helpful and do not like to address problems (they just work their way around it) Majority of the buildings have not been refurbished so there are still damp stains and mould Decor is very plain and almost looks like a prison hence why the ensuite bathroom is ridiculously small Heating goes off and on (was sat with 3 jackets on at one point during my stay!) Do not expect to become best friends with your flatmates because if they say they'll clean they probably won't Buses to and from Kirkstall Brewery are never on time so you're always late for lectures and seminars Also if you ever have a problem don't expect management/residential officers to speak about your issues privately, they do it in an open room!
Wifi, which majority of students value not only for recreation but for assignments too is extremely poor at times
