Blackfriars Biography
Blackfriars is home to 520 students and is ideally located with High Street rail station, Aldi supermarket, Glasgow Green, Merchant City quarter and buzzing Sauchiehall Street all within walking distance. Getting to and from class will be a breeze as the University of Strathclyde is five minutes away and Glasgow Caledonian University is a fifteen-minute walk away.
When needing to take a break from studies or simply hang out with your friends and neighbours, you can make use of the common room that is fitted with a ping pong table, sofas and TV. To ensure your stay is as convenient as possible, there are vending machines and car parking available.

Can you move in and out access to and from block 6? because current access is not very feasible. we have to go through piles of rubbish every day and it is very uncomfortable

These are due to finish very soon, so the restrictions and management of the area will be back to normal. Property was under construction for majority of my stay. Only good thing was service from Starla and Sky, they were very helpful and friendly staff.

Overall my stay at blackfriars hasn't been the best, there are a lot of disruptions this year and we are paying full price that previous tenants have had despite having no parking and being woken up first thing every morning to extremely loud work on the building. We constantly have workers in our flats and rooms which is also a huge disturbance. However, the staff here are absolutely lovely, always so helpful and kind. In particular a staff member by the name of Sky always greets students when they pass through the building in a friendly manner and is always extremely helpful whenever I come to reception for advice or support. My stay so far has not quite been what I expected, I wish I was aware of the extent of the disruption that would be caused by the work to the building and that I'd be paying full price for a lesser experience than previous years but I really can't fault the staff they have made it so much more of a welcoming environment despite these circumstances.

Overall a nice accommodation. Nice, friendly and, helpful staff. So far no major problems experienced and any issues I’ve experienced like my door having a low battery was Handled quickly. It’s also located in a nice place, about 7 minutes from uni (Strathclyde) and 10 minutes from the city centre. Only issue I have is the selection of Flatmates, if possible book with friends as it makes it more fun and you’re sure your friends have the same kitchen etiquette as you do.

Don't be like me and book a room at Blackfriars because it's close to Strathclyde and the city center. It is not worth it! It is disgustingly dirty, from hallways, laundry room, "social area", courtyard. They do not care at all about student wellbeing, so they decided to carry out all the works possible this year. They are trying to redo their cladding to make it look fancier, but it's nothing like anything they say on tehir site. Prepare for rat at the bin area (which you have to walk though to get out of the building), unhelpful staff and complete disrespect. Water temperature is really bad, the same with the wifi. Can never stay in my room to study because there always seems to be something happening outside that makes so much noise you just want to hide under a rock. Fire alarms are BAD. They tell you to go back inside and then don't turn the fire alarm off only half an hour after that, so you either sit in your room with your ear drums melting or go outside in the rain and cold.

We appreciate living with the current works at Blackfriars is challenging and despite being pre warned of them, it can still be a shock for our residents living with us. Our priority is always to ensure our properties are as safe as possible and so the cladding works are not just superficial but to ensure we have enhanced fire protection going forward, ensuring we are going above and beyond the legal requirements. We will be holding fortnightly drop in sessions where any of our residents can come and speak to us regarding the works to find out more about the how/why, please look out for details of these on our project noticeboards. In terms of our fire alarms, if a room has filled with smoke during an incident, the alarm will continue to go off until no more smoke is detected. This means once we have investigated, it can be deemed that there is no risk to anyone, allowing people to re-enter the building but that until the smoke fully clears, the alarms will sound. For safety reasons we have to allow this incase another incident occurs. Our main priority is to keep our residents safe and our systems are designed to ensure this happens. Our housekeeping team work hard to ensure the internal communal areas are kept to a good standard so please alert us at reception if you feel there is a specific issue you would like us to address. Very poor cleanliness, no proper garbage removal, no proper maintenance.

Sky was absolutely fantastic. The level of noise and disturbance from the scaffolding is absolutely unnaceptable, especially for the price. To find my studies I work night shifts, so I get tops 4 hours of sleep a night seeing as they start at 8, especially considering we were told they wouldn’t until 9. I’ve had debris through my windows, no matter how many times it’s maintained the extractor fan is broken, fire doors don’t shut properly et al.

Living in Blackfriars feels like you're in the heart of the city. Within 30 minutes of walking you cover all important and social aspects and the local staff is always there 5o help you find places you may be missing out on!

Dear future residents, my stay in the accommodation was short but a complete one. I stayed at an en-suite which was well suited for any student be in terms of room size, bed size or the study table. I found it convenient and enough. The pantry was spacious for the flatmates to be well accommodated along with the available appliances. They have contract policy which is good and safe for both. The best experience was of the staff whom I found to be professional and friendly. They were knowledgeable and equipped with the needs of the students and always responsive and kind. I had few issues and they sorted them suitably. I would like to thank specially Lorraine and Debbie for their immense support and will miss them. Being at the city center it will be a ideal stay to explore the city and its culture. Hope you have a great experience!

Dear future residents, I would like to share my experience from Blackfriars in Glasgow, as I think my views will help you to decide your next home. First, the location is one of the greatest advantage - close to the city centre, the University of Strathclyde and the University of Caledonian, while there are ways (underground, train, bus) to go at the University of Glasgow. Second, the room (en-suite) has a big desk that makes studying more comfortable. Also, there is enough space for storage. For example, I store my luggages under the bed. Third and perhaps the most important: if you have any problem, the team management cares about it. I had a bad experience with noise (one of my flatmates used to play loudly music) and I feel much obliged to the whole Blackfriars Team, and especially the support that I have received from Ryan (the Sales Manager) on solving this issue. I mean it’s located in the center of the city , so it’s a good place to live in. Also the facilities here are good.

The staff is amazing! They help you with everything! The rooms are small, but clean and enough! The kitchen and flat common room is nicely designed. The general common room for everybody is unfortunately too small. It has a table tennis and 3 sofas. It is just enough for a small group. The yard is nice and there are some seatings available, but not for everybody. Maybe there can be added more in the future. The accommodation is located near the University of Strathclyde and next to the High Street Station. With a short walk you are in the city center.

Wifi is crap. Halls are dirty and not cleaned for arrival. They lie when they show you the 'show rooms' on open day. Crap managment and cold showers.
Ignored the reviews and decided to stay here. Dont know where to start, zero effort in matching flat mates with similar interests etc. Its very boring and most people keep to themselves. The halls consists probably of 90% foreign students and there doesnt seem to be much mixing. The fact you have to pay this year way over the months rent (which means you dont pay the last two months) is ridiculous as it makes it so expensive. Also dont get a room on the side of the building facing Aldi as nobody on this side gets sunlight and youll find it hard waking up and find yourself falling asleep a lot in the afternoon.
What can I say, but if you want to know what it would be like to stay in a monestry in a graveyard in the desert, then this is the place for you. 'social area' consists of a few chairs and a ping pong table with the staff at reception watching you, but at least the WiFi is reasonably good because you will spend most of your time sitting in your room because its so fantastically quiet.
Pretty good private halls, located a couple of minutes walk from the nearest uni buildings, but the common room is crap. there's not much talk between flats so far which is a bit weird. WiFi is great and it's pretty decent value for money.
no effort to match you with flatmates with similar interests so it's really just pot luck. Good value for money although lacking in storage space
