I loved living in Cairncross. the location is really good bc it's a 15 minute walk from the uni, right though kelvingrove park, and theres a sainsburys on the corner and a lidl 10 mins walk down the road. Bear in mind that its layed out in halls not flats, with 10 people sharing a kitchen, but i think its actually turned out a plus bc its a lot more social. The security team are all so lovely, they never have an issue if you get locked out or make a bit of noise. Downsides are that the showers are a bit crap and half the toilets get clogged, kitchen ends up a tip, most of the bedrooms dont get much light and the common room wasnt open half the year and theres only 1 tv. Cairncross is definitely a good middle ground between murano and Qm bc you can get your sleep when you want, but its still really social and theres always something going on.

Terribly mis-sold. The property could not be more adverse to UofG's advertisements. Sanctuary Students - the property's management company - take the most laid-back attitude possible and would rather pretend not to see any issues with the building. The non-optional cleaning seemed to cause more harm than good, since often cleaners wouldn't turn up (regularly due to understaffing) or wouldn't clean at all if a single dish was left on the side, as this was classed as 'obstructing'. Cleaning seemed, also, to be a money making scheme as we were regularly under the subconscious threat of a fine, knowing that there's only so much you can clean a turd. My kitchen had no windows, in fact, nor did the entirety of the corridors throughout the building. Meaning a warm, damp, stale smell becomes stagnant throughout the building. It would regularly make me, and others, gag. The building is neglected: doors falling off, damp, mould, pests, no access to clean air. It's truly abhorrent!

thank you for your feedback, all issues will be looked into by the management team

Hi, thanks for the feedback and glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We are always looking for ways to improve so we have taken your feedback on board.
Probably the worst place where anyone can stay. You might think it's not so bad, but the reality is that it is extremely expensive for what you get. There are even mice in the walls. But the worst part is the staff, apparently there is a warden, that judges students and fines them at his convenience. In my case he made up that on the day of the 7 am fire drills, someone from the staff had came to my door and I laughed and did not opened the door. The "staff" is run by students, so you're actually putting your safety, when it regards to fire, to 20 year old students. The internet connection is very poor. There is no cleaning in our flats, we do it ourselves. The stairs are cleaned probably once a month. Hall management is terrible, as the example above shows. Social experience depends on your flatmates. I would have preferred to had found private accomodation, since you can pay half of what you pay in this hall.
Living in Cairncross House was a mixed experienced but overall I'm glad I picked Cairncross over other halls. It is located in a safe and trendy area not too far from the University or the City centre. It is unfortunately quite far away from other halls (such as Murano) and there is no large supermarket nearby. The bedrooms are quite spacious and the kitchen facilities are modern- the bathrooms are also okay, they are cleaned every week and toilet paper is provided. As Cairncross is not divided into flats, I've found it less sociable and very few parties are thrown, however the quiet atmosphere is largely a plus. I did find it harder to make friends within my halls and bond with people in my kitchen, however that's not always the case and depends who you're with. The common room and computer room are a plus, and are good places to study.
Staff are so rude and unorganised
Class place to live in. A bit dated, but still best experience by a mile.
Cairncross House is quite near the University compared to other Halls and it's also in an area with a lot of pubs and shops and only about 30mins from the city centre by foot. The staff is nice and helpful, the cleaners do they job well. However, I think that the price, as with most Halls, is too expensive. I pay £122 per week for a standard single! Even though on the University website they said it'd be £108 per week!
One thing to bear in mind about Cairncross House is that it isn't flats like the other halls are - each floor has around 40-50 rooms and several kitchens and toilets/showers. You're assigned to a certain kitchen depending on which room you're in. Each floor has laundry facilities and a couple of baths if you fancy something more relaxing than a shower! The kitchens and toilets/showers are cleaned every week and toilet paper is provided, which is great!
Cairncross is the best place for first year students to live. The rooms and kitchens are divided into separate flats, so you are always bumping into people, ideal for freshers week and for the first year as a whole. The location is perfect as well. only 15 minutes from uni, and about 25 minutes walk from city center, which is ideal for all the nights out, saving money on cabs/public transport.
Great place to live if you want to have a big group of friends by the end of it, however the cleaners aren't that good and management sometimes doesn't do their job right e.g. forgetting to buy the whole building toilet paper
These halls are great for making friends as they are so sociable and it's only a short walk to the uni
Needs some updating, quite quiet at times and not if you're into parties!
One of the nicer hall buildings but I found it to be less social than other ones (murano for example). It wasn't very party focussed and I find I didn't make as good friends as people in Murano did. If you don't mind living in a less nice building, go for Murano - it will be worth it for the friends you'll make.
Despite Cairncross being one of the less well known accomodations at glasgow, I really loved my time here. Not the typical layout, which I found allowed me to meet and socialise with many more people, much more easily! Super friendly staff who always say hello. Great start to university life.
Absolutely loved it here for first year. Met so many great people. It helps that is isn't flats but is actually halls, if you don't get on with people in your kitchen it's easy to move. Staff are very helpful
