Chapel Heights is a Great!! place to live :) it is comfortable, and the studios are lovely they are good value for money. There isn't many places in Durham that you will feel more at home in. The staff are polite, friendly and helpful and always have monthly events planned and prizes to be won which really creates a sense of community across the accommodation complex. With loads of studying and exams its nice to sometimes attend an event especially if it is at your door. I would like to thank Sam, Georgia and Chapel Heights Team :) <3 Maz
Location is really good as it is not in a loud part of town but is also not far away from town or campus, it is walking distance and only five minutes from Hild Bede. It is really well maintained and there's always someone on site if you need help with something. Studios mean you have your own space but you also have the common room and cinema room to socialise, plus a great gym.
I do love living in Chapel Heights! The room is spacious with a big closet. Staff are super friendly! Georgia, Sam and Richard are always there to help and I have to say they respond very quickly! I always get problems solved in 1-2 days! Activities are also frequently organized and I love to participate in. The pumpkin carving, the fridge cleaning day, the movie night! I also won prizes in these activities! I enjoy being a member of Chapel Heights! I strongly recommend people to live here! Thank you Georgia, Sam and Richard~
The rooms are super comfortable and the fact that there is staff and maintenance on the premises every day makes uni life so much less stressful. The facilities are great, I especially love the gym. Chapel Heights is pretty close to the city centre-- although I sometimes wish the hill on the way back home wasn't so steep! Another downside is that I find it hard to socialise with flatmates since the only shared space is deserted most of the time... But overall a really good experience.
Extractor fan has been broken for 2.5 months and management does not seem interested in fixing it, or updating us on the issue. It's causing mould and a constant steamy room that's bad for electronics, books etc. Fire alarms go off almost every day, often several times a day. Studio room and hospitality team are nice, but that does not make up for the problems.
For the amount of money that is required to live in a studio at chapel heights, the bare minimum you would expect is for everything in your studio to work, or be repaired as soon as possible. Two and a half months into living here, I have yet to have a working bathroom extractor fan which was known to be broken before I even moved in. Also there is poor communication regarding repairs. For instance I would receive an email saying maintenance would be happening in my studio, yet no one would appear throughout the day, and I would not receive further information regarding why this is the case. Another example is my building was left without hot water (including heating) during late October for nearly 2 days, and without alternative facilities. It wasn't until midday of the day after the hot water stopped working that we received an email saying that it would be fixed in a few hours. However it wasn't until the day after that the problem was solved. This is not good enough!
Given the amount of people who live in Chapel Heights, there could be a bigger laundry room (only 3 washing machines/ dryers). However, apart from that the accomodation in wonderful. Problems are sorted fast (such as boilers breaking etc.); the buildings are always warm, so even with if theres a cold winter you don't have to worry about being cold, which if you've lived in some of the other student accomodation in Durham, you'll know is a huge plus. Glide internet can be a bit glitchy, and it doesn't always connect well on the tv, so watching Netflix etc. can be a bit hit and miss. However, if you are looking for an alternative to college, or don't want to try and find a houseshare, I would definitly recommend the accomodation. It's only 15 minutes from Elvet Riverside/ centre of Durham, probably around 30 to the Science Site (if you walk).
I really enjoy living here. It’s cozy, quiet, everything is new and clean, there’s always staff around to help out or answer questions. I like that there’s a smart tv in my room! Even though it’s not officially part of any of the universities, you still feel like you’re a part of the university community.
Really nice rooms - tons of space even with the medium-sized studios. and tons of lights and areas to plug stuff in, with a sizeable amount of storage. Chapel Heights also does a lot of free social events (free food & drink woot woot!) and there's always something interesting (or appetizing) going on throughout the week. The common room is quite large and the chairs are 10/10 in terms of comfort. Only slight issue is that it's a slight treck to the science site but it's 10 mins from the town and even closer to the GP so that's definitely a plus. If there's any issues going on in the room you can easily report it and you'll be provided with support quickly. The staff is really friendly and the common areas are always really clean. Definitely would recommend.
Absolutely great rooms and super friendly staff! One time I set the fire alarm off (I left my homemade crisps in the oven for too long) and the security guy immediately came to check if everything is all right. So you really feel secure and safe, even if you are living alone! There are some problems with the wifi service at the moment, but the staff is doing everything to fix it. They are very friendly and helpful and the rooms are just perfect for a student! Absolutely recommend it!!!
The wifi speed was quite erratic at times. Could be improved. Also found it very disappointing that staff does not help with removing garbage from room and CHARGES students if garbage or left over stuff is found in rooms on moving out day. Had to move tons of garbage on my own while it was raining the day before I permanently left chapel.
Amazing place to live, not far from centre of Durham. Very clean and quiet accommodation with lots of social events happening every week. Staff are very friendly. Would recommend this studios to anyone coming to Durham.
Chapel Heights is an amazing accommodation for any students coming to Durham or looking for new housing for next year. Located slightly past Claypath, it is only an 8-minute walk or so until town square. The staff is amazing, especially Sam and Georgia, and they continuously throw the best social events throughout the year. The rooms are fully furnished and look brand new, so the slightly higher cost than a worn down apartment around Durham city is worth it. Overall, I can say I have had a pleasant experience living at Chapel Heights for the past two years as an international student.
So, overall experience is great! Very kind and supportive staff. Events are super nice. I won Easter competition of over 30 Easter eggs. Rooms looking super luxurious. Especially bathroom with huge mirror. Location is super nice for both who likes quiet and loud environment. You can get both in 5 minutes walk.
I have lived here for over 2 years and I love my accommodation is just perfect with amazing rooms with dishwashers and the nicest ones in Durham!!! amazing staff always there for you to help and create great place to be called home. I would definitely recommend this accommodation as it is very close to the city center and with the peace and quite location.
