Overall excellent accommodation. Could do with more social space
Great value for money and great location. The atmosphere within the hall is amazing.
Although this is classed as a postgraduate hall, many undergraduates like myself are placed here. It's a lovely hall and works well being grouped together with Hazlerigg Rutland.
I stayed here for my masters during covid. The rooms are quite small but good enough for what I needed, cleaning service is handy if your flat mates are messy, the year I stayed here I was charged for room cleaning even though we didn't get this service, privacy is minimal at best, random people will just walk into the flat unannounced, the first time I encountered the cleaner, she made me leave the kitchen whilst I was half way through making breakfast, she made my house mate cry over a blocked sink, and you will be reported for having your bike in the flat or anything deemed slightly against the rules. I found this quite amusing that I was actually paying money for all this hassle. We were all treated like complete children and the management was very poor. Location is good as its on campus but you certainly pay the premium for this perk, I would say the only good experience from John Phillips is that I met some lovely people and that made it bearable. I don't recommend living here.
Nice experience overall, a bit pricey.
The accommodation is extremely welcoming and a good second home.
