Howard Gardens is a great place to live with a gym, study area, cinema room and games space (also a washer/dryer in each kitchen so no additional spend for laundry). It is right next to the city centre and Queen Street train station but not very close to Cardiff Uni Campus. Before Mezzino took over, I would have rated all areas a 5/5 however since Mezzino took over, the rent for the next academic year has skyrocketed and the current social events have dwindled. In a few months, we will be paying significantly more for less events and social activities. If you have the money to afford the rent prices and/or you are not bothered about the lack of quality social events, I would recommend it.
This year and last year things are breaking down, we have had 2-3 water cuts and 2-3 electricity being cut on sunday. Electric cooker fires due to boiling eggs, and bathroom and reception water leakage. Been a mess. However, great drinks, socials, and free supplies provided, decent gym (just needs ventilation), decent study and chill places and lovely residence and security team. Very safe = secure
Overall I have a good experience in terms of the cleanliness and property management. One thing I would say is that I’d have preferred if I could have been assigned a flat with people of a similar age to me, as my flatmates are mostly postgrads and don’t want to talk, therefore making me feel like I missed out on some of the social aspects of living away from home.
The building is a lovely area with many facilities. I have brought my friends over many times and they are both impressed and very jealous. Beyond that, the building is well-managed, safe and the staff are all exceptionally friendly.
Amazing place to live. Beginning to get slightly unaffordable with price increases, but cannot complain about value for money.
good accom, good social area good room
perfect place to live as a student however the social spaces have multiple machines such as arcade machines, or air hockey that aren’t functional. same with the karaoke room, it just doesn’t work. on top of this, the wifi has a monetary block stopping you from adding more than 5 devices to it unless you pay an annual subscription, which i think is too harsh, with all the devices you need to stay on top of studies it’s easy to fill these five slots and it’s not acceptable i have to pay more for that. If these were fixed however, this would be the best place to live as a student in cardiff for the building and management is amazing.
Management in Howard Gardens are great, highly recommended
i really enjoy staying here and the staff are super friendly! i wish it was a little closer to my building as public transport is expensive but i don’t mind too much especially as the mornings get lighter :)
Was better under prime Student Living as there was lots of social events. Needs better maintenance of the gym as stairmaster has been broken for many months.
It is an amazing place to live, with great amenities, lovely staff etc however there is a lack of social experience especially as a fresher
At Howard gardens, you'll find everything you need for a fantastic stay: round-the-clock reception, reliable internet, and fantastic social activities.
i love living here!! my flatmates are all lovely and i feel safe here
Staffs are friendly, but the many mentanances are needed like a lift is broken for a month now.
Ryan Salter (our property manager) and Emma are amazing. They are there to help students whenever they can and to make sure that our living experience is as smooth as possible.
Good friendly management. Things fixed promptly.
Employees can spend more time working at the front desk rather than checking appliances
It has been a great experience staying at Howard for almost 6 months!
I lived here in 1st year and loved it and the people who run it and live here so much I’ve stayed here for all 3 years of uni
The building and staff are amazing and so welcoming. However the surrounding area can be a bit rough.
It's a friendly and welcoming environment. Whenever an issue arises, management is always quick to sort it out. Especially Tom, he great!

Living in Howard gardens have overall been a great first year experience which is very accessible socially as well as educationally, only being a short walk from my university campus.
