Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Clean, Quick go fix any issues, Great look to the place. Would definitely re book.
It was a good experience and very fun time
Very very good. Nice location. Not far from uni.
We love Ruby and Tom and chloe they are pur favourites. Perfect value for money
It a beautiful experience studying and living in Huddersfield, the Castings Hall is amazing accommodation, great team work among staffs and I will definitely recommend it for anyone.
"The majority of my stay has been good but this academic year stay has been poorer with regards to staff and maintenance requests response times. Sometimes maintainence requests are not resolved and if they are it is not a long-term fix."

I love my stay at Castings. It’s so close to the university, it has modern and practical rooms with enough space, and you get a very supportive staff here (wanna give a shout-out to Ruby and Holly). They also have nice little social spaces and a small gym which being an introvert I never use. They have many events all year around for socializing with food, drinks and games (great for those extroverts). Also, the property is well maintained and security is good. Not to forget, they charge a very reasonable rent for all that they provide. The only downside I see would be not having a vacuum cleaner per flat. We have to get one from the reception (it can be unavailable sometimes). However, this I don’t consider a huge issue considering all other things.
Amazing experience at IQ Casting. Especially the great support from Ruby and Gabriella amazing IQ representatives. Made my moving in process very easy and my stay very comfortable. They definitely added to my IQ experience.
The place is alright for the first stay.
Stayed at castings for 2 years now and rebooked for our final year! Made some amazing friends here. The staff at castings are all really welcoming and friendly. They will go above and beyond to help you with anything. Location is brilliant right next to the uni and only a 5-10 minute walk into town. Maintenance are really good any problems will be looked at and fixed promptly. Car parking is really secure. Bronze rooms are modern and a nice size.
Great accommodation, so close to uni!
Above average, could be better if they can provide cleaning for kitchen
don't stay here the rooms are nice but they have a serious silverfish problem, I had them on my desk, in my bed all over the floor, and on kitchen benches eating my work and cooking books. Was disgusting. all they did was put a few traps down which did nothing. The buildings are riddled with them. when trying to get the help they weren't very helpful and only want money. One thing is the maintenance guy was lovely.
Accommodation was good overall, staff were very helpful when asked for assistance. However, I did encounter a few problems: Silverfish insects often in flat and kitchen, had to spray bathroom cleaner near skirting boards to prevent them constantly appearing. Other students in other blocks/flats apparently had this issue too. Strange smell in my flat throughout the whole year (was there when I arrived), reported issue but nothing was done about it. Made all my clothes smell unpleasant. Paid extra for a 'river-view' which was basically just a view of trees, 'view' was obscured for 5+ months by scaffolding. Had to buy our own kettle and toaster but new TV and oven were provided when needed which was excellent. Also, the company was very considerate in refunding rent during the Covid period. Additionally, they kept my belongings safe in my flat during lockdown so I could recollect them when it was permitted by the government.
Everything was great so far lived 3 years next to campis
Southill House is a shared accommodation and is and can make for a close knit relationship with your house mates. There is not much space for everyone as there's 10 people max in the house but the rooms are big and open. The WiFi can be dodgy but that's due to how many people are in the house.
We had the best and biggest parties ever
Modern and clean, flats usually have 6 bedrooms and a shared kitchen. The social spaces were great, as they had a common room and study area.
Brilliant place to live, lived here for 3 out of my 4 years here.
Rude reception staff, more obstructive than helpful.
Moved to Aspley house over summer and everything was perfect. In the following term, the manager was disrespectful and broke many of the agreements in the tenancy agreement. After 3 months of constant hassle from other students and staff. The manager made me homeless with nowhere to live for the next possible week whilst I sorted out alternative accommodation. Lived in other accommodations in Huddersfield however, the way I was treated whilst living here leads me to believe this is the worst accommodation in Huddersfield for students.
