I lived in Block A Flat 1 and I had a problem with my shower leaking onto the carpet under my bed and in front of the wardrobe. there had obviously been a problem for about 4/5 years which previous tenants didn't report. My carpet was going mouldy and I ended up with severe tonsillitis. when I moved out I took the mattress out of the bed and underneath the bedframe was a thick coat of white mould on the carpet. With a dehumidifier it was just about liveable, but I always had a cold and my room always smelt disgusting. maintenance was carried out poorly. not everything can be fixed with a mastic gun!! these halls were built in 1999 and little has changed inside since. for the amount of money they charge compared to what you get, this place is a complete rip-off and to be honest it needs knocking down. leakage and damp are a "common problem" - I was told this by reception staff!
NEGATIVES when I arrived my room had a pretty dirty floor and it smelt a bit musty. a few days in the smell is still here despite my attempts to use neutradol and febreeze to combat the smell. theres a patch of black mold on my bathroom ceiling which is very small but noticable. bathroom ventilation is very poor - I have to use kitchen roll on the floor after I shower because it gets so wet. the shower is a lottery between third degree burns and the ice age, and water pressure could be improved. my radiator is so old and smelt very dusty when I first turned it on. the kitchen was so sticky on literally every surface (how does a kettle get sticky?) but after a wipe down it was passable. fridge space is limited. the lock on my room door is quite temperamental. I'm also not sure if the smoke alarm in our kitchen works POSITIVES the location is excellent. my flatmates are lovely. the bed is comfy but firm. the accommodation is very secure. it's nice overall but could be improved.
