St Patricks is a great hall would recommend. Slightly off campus but not a problem and slightly closer to town. Shared bathrooms never a problem and cleaned every week day. Catered food is okay and useful to not have to cook all the time. 2 common areas and a study space. Old court/Pearsons court is nicer than the new court with bigger rooms, drinking water in rooms and laid out in blocks of 12 although the kitchen is smaller than the new court. Issues get resolved really quickly and dinning room is very near.

Amazing experience at St. Patrick's as it is value for money as it is reasonably priced and real close to campus (5 - 7 mins walk). The hall is clean and are well maintained and the rooms are spacious. The social spaces are good to interact with other hall mates. Wi-Fi is really strong and I haven't faced any disruption in connection ever. Social experience have been amazing as I have made so many friends through this hall.
It’s not the best accommodation looks wise but it’s where I met all of my closest friends. The environment helps people make friends and everyone is so nice and welcoming. As an international student it was a bit more difficult for me to make friends but in the end I made friends for life.
It’s great value for money. A bit noisy at times but you will love it here.
Barely human living conditions
Your experience in St Pats will vary greatly depending on whether you end up in Old or New court. I am personally a resident of New Court and felt that I would've had a better living experience in Old Court. Here are some major points: - Washbasin water in New Court isn't drinkable (is drinkable in old court tho) - Things in New Court break more often as facilities are sparsely distributed (up to 20 people sharing 3 bathrooms on my floor and 1 kitchen to 12+) - There is a common room and a study room in Old court accessible to all residents (great area for pre-drinks!) - Kitchen tables on ground floor flats in New Court, everybody else misses out. - Shamrock Cafe is great value for money as an all-you-can-eat buffet, but the food quality isn't much better than school dinners. - Very often radiator and water problems in New Court because the whole building was built to maximise profit. - 4 washing machines and 4 tumble dryers in the launderette for the 300+ residents :/
Not quite like normal halls because it wasn’t in a corridor system but overall great experience
Not the most pleasing hall to be in however never meet such a great bunch of people ! Soixcials are on point
I personally dont live on campus bus i have friends who do and they love it!
My halls weren’t the nicest looking but I my room was definitely the bonus - very spacious and I had a lot of storage too. The only downside was that we didn’t really have a good communal space which was fresh and modern. It was just an old, dark, dingy room which was perhaps used 3 times that year.
I thought it a brilliant home, but then I did leave in 1959 so things might have changed a bit since thin!
It's old run down and slightly s*** but it's our s***. I mean you may get food poisoning from Sham, a place that still serves spam fritters (not going to lie the most disgusting thing I have ever tried). However, St Pats is made by the people, unlike some halls where you don't even know who lives in the flat next door, in St Pats you know everyone and everyone is a somewhat functioning alcoholic (some less functioning then others...). I admit you will get no work done as it seems the entirety of St Pats is at every Union and MNQ, but you will have a lot of amazingly messy nights out. Besides first year doesn't count anyway!
It's a sh*thole but its out sh*thole
Despite the halls themselves looking like Alcatraz, the social aspect is spot on
Unity over the large hall corridors, and our block was the most involved in all the themed nights
My time was absolutely amazing, I had so much fun there!
Had an amazing time in St Pats, couldn't have asked for a better halls
Was great fun always a party outside j block
Basically St Pats is a s*** hole, but when you live there its your s*******. you get food so there's no washing up and its easily got the best social life as everyone is a mixture between Danny Dyer and Amy Winehouse. Hardly any common rooms or dining rooms, so some unfortunate is forced to have pre drinks forced upon them every night, and because its St Pats, pre drinks actually happen every night. Sure it looks like a prison but when s*** gets broken maintenance are quick to fix it and the cleaners are proper nice geezers. Internet is proper decent.. Basically St Pats s**** on everywhere else because its bare jokes.
New court is a great social experience due to the corridor layout however old court is a lot less social due to the seperate blocks and it being a designated quiet area (which most people have not requested)
St. Pat's is one of the furthest halls away from campus, the cleaning is inconsistent. The common room is not frequently used very well apart from for pre-drinks and in old court there are no social spaces for everyone to chill, one of the most annoying things.
It's s***, but it's our s***...
One of the oldest halls in reading, they've learnt over the years how to give freshers and mature students the best experience of halls and the social aspects that come with university life. Unlike most modern halls you are not split up into corridors of 6-12, instead you have the entire roam of 200 people to be friends with and socialise with. The catered experience really helps students to have more time for socialising... I mean work... and also is no more expensive than uncatered halls. You'll be cooking for yourself for your entire life after so why not put it off another year!
Definitely what I wanted from my halls experience! Well known for its liveliness, parties and being crazy. Known as the most sociable halls at Reading uni, I felt like part of one big wild family. So easy to meet new people immediately as there are no flat divisions. You'll find a group of people you fit with no matter what because there's such a range all living together! I am definitely going to miss it there in second year, it didn't look much at first but i soon realised its the people that make it great!
It was quite expensive for what you got, but St pats is most definitely the most social hall, you meet pretty much everyone, and have loads of friends from lots of different courses etc, there's not much in way of social spaces, or there is but they're not on each corridor, the wifi is crap and drops all the time but there's a cable internet? I enjoyed my time in St pats loads, I can't say for the older part, but I hear it's quieter and good for mature/post grad accommodation
Decent social halls but as I previously stated there doesn't seem like there's much to do but drink. I ended up meeting a fair few people though. It's also very expensive, private accommodation is usually 1-2 grand cheaper per year.
Not the most attractive hall on campus, nor the best location BUT the atmosphere makes it an amazing place to live, especially the rivalry with a nearby hall called Wantage.
it is very dated, dusty and generally a bit foul
Nowhere to socialise, catered food is awful - not healthy, small portions etc.
Catered food is all from frozen packets, not nice. There aren't really any inviting places for everyone to sit and chat except our rooms, but the fact that it's not in flats is brilliant. You can mix with who you want, and not be trapped with people you don't like.
It's mad! Best bunch of people with some crazy behaviour thrown into the mix. Classic café Shamrock food literally 10m away so you never go hungry..
Was so expensive for terrible service. Food was horrendous, I got food poisoning a couple of times. Our warden had no idea how to do his job, rooms were extremely easy to break into, with someone breaking into my locked room while I was sleeping, waking me up, and then leaving again. Internet was also very poor, no good for studying. JCR charged us very high fees at the beginning of the year, then we heard nothing of them for the rest of the year. All UoR halls of residence are now out of my price range as a working class student, with a terrible level of service in return.
