Julian Markham House Biography
Julian Markham House is exclusively for King’s College, London students and is a twenty-five-minute walk from the Waterloo Campus and a twenty-five-minute bus ride from Strand Campus. Residents can enjoy living in the exciting area of Elephant & Castle. Getting around will be a breeze as the Elephant and Castle station is served by the Northern and Bakerloo lines and National Rail services.
If you need a quiet space to focus on your studies, you can make use of the communal study room. When wanting to take a break from work, you can watch TV in the common room or play a game of ping-pong in the courtyard.
If you are looking for a self-contained room, you can choose to stay in a studio room. Alternatively, you can opt to stay in an en-suite room with a shared kitchen and living space.

Staff is very slow with maintenance and responding to issues. Silverfish issue in some rooms/flats. There are a variety of events so in terms of social life it was okay.
I would like to state that all the assistants are really friendly and helpful, especially Neli.
JMH is fine but comparing it to other KCL accommodations, it is disappointing. The staff are nice, but since moving in there has been construction which has made being here during the daytime almost unbearable. I would recommend other accommodations instead

The value for money is good with the discount. The location is amazing. Face to face requests are dealt with straight away but reporting maintenance through the app can be slow. Cleaning is good. Social spaces are great but reduced due to building work. The staff are great here, really friendly and helpful. Neli is always so helpful and chatty!

It is my second year staying at Julian Markham. I now call it my home, because I’ve become so attached to the building and staff members here. They make students feel welcomed and take care of us like we are part of a family. Neli especially has been like a mother for me; during the pandemic, she checked in on me regularly and brought me little gifts at my door. It was my birthday during that time, too, and her presence made me feel less lonely (she brought balloons and vegetarian dishes, as she knew I didn’t eat meat). She is wonderful. The entire team here goes beyond limits to make us feel like home.

Julian Markham house is an adequate accommodation that has nice flats. The staff are helpful, especially Neli but would love to have better facilities like a study room, gym and common space.

Your average accommodation - nothing glarlingly bad. However, the single lift in the building has broken down twice so far (in one term), and maintenance is characteristically slow to respond. The on-site staff used to be crabby but have greatly improved their mood recently so I suppose that's good. No common space other than the tiny "lounge" area in front of the reception. Other than location (25 mins walk to Waterloo campus), there is nothing special. It's not your typical student-y area though (like Russell Square), so no glitz and glamour (freshers might be bored, postgrads may prefer it). However, you do have access to cheap grocery stores and stuff nearby.

Julian Markham is located in Elephant and Castle, which is a pretty rough area but is under regeneration so is looking at becoming a lot nicer. The halls are in a fab location in terms of getting To uni and most places in London. You're paying more for the location, as it's central London. The halls themselves are pretty standard, fairly old but that's because it was built a long time ago. Flats consist of between 3 and 7 rooms, with most of the socialising happening in the flat kitchens as the common room overlooks reception so it's not overly private. A lot of things break in JM, which isn't fantastic, you've just got to put your foot down to UNITE and the reception people and things usually get done then. Once they're repaired the issues never usually occurs again. At the end of the day, once you've found your group of friends, it doesn't really matter where you live as everything feels like home :) it may not be the best accommodation out there, but it's not the worst.

Good location for transport but had a lot of appliances that broke and shower that leaked constantly, as well as a lift that was broke for at least a month and washing machines always out of order
