Having an amazing time in these halls, but am becoming ill due to the heat which circulates the entire building! Also, the wifi isn't the slowest, in and out of halls, but it's not exactly the fastest either. However, rooms do come with their own direct internet ports!
Butler was great to spend first year. In the middle of everywhere and well maintained. A living room area would have encouraged people to spend more time in there to hang out, rather than just a kitchen area and for pre drinking.
Expensive, but that's what you sign up for when you choose to live in Surrey! Hall management were overly fussy about certain things, and the cleaner never cleaned what she was meant to. We also ended up with a ladybug infestation in the kitchen, which isn't ideal. But the rooms are amazing and the kitchen and corridor make for great social spaces.
Despite being the most expensive, everything was falling apart, the elevator broke on the 2nd week, kettle leaked, my toilet seat was not actually attached to the toilet. There was other stuff too, fridge stopped working and had to be replaced, and most likely things I forgot to mention. The rooms in Founders are much bigger and nicer, though Butler does have a good sense of community since you're packed together with 8 other people. The rooms are decent, however the bed is lumpy and hard but there's a really big work desk which could easily fit a laptop, printer, books and possibly a houseplant, if you desire somebody to speak to.
I loved my year in Tuke! Made some great friends, had quite a few parties. Its a great locaton on campus. You are less than 10 minutes walk from everything, and it is one of the closest halls to Egham town. The showers are great, huge kitchens, and the walls aren't made of paper so I could hardly hear my flat mates.
Tuke hall is right in the centre of campus. Perfect location. Double beds, surprisingly spacious modern ensuite wet room. Maintenance dealt with quickly. Cleaner comes Monday to Friday but does seem to complain if its not already clean. Fabulous internet. Fast access, very reliable, maybe 2 instances where it was down in the whole year. Only downside is the lack of a common room. Only social space is the very spacious kitchen in each flat so there isn't a space for different flats to come together.
For what you pay, you get a double bed as well as a kitchen as you will be self catered and am en-suite which makes WT&B a popular choice ! Unfortunately there is not communal social space for residents to go, therefore the main social space in each flat is the kitchen. The social experience is great nethertheless, and you'll have the best time!
I loved my time in Tuke, the flats of 8 are really social and the rooms are laid out really comfortably and are really convenient to live in. They're conveniently placed especially if you study something like Psychology, Biosciences or Geography. Good for getting home from the SU safely and near the back gate. Had a few issues with the heating and hot water but they were sorted out - we weren't compensated though. Cleaners come in every weekday which means by Sunday the kitchen can get a bit grim.
