Powell was my happy place! I was one of just a few undergrads staying there in the postgrad halls but this was never an issue. ABPH integrated us with ABH to make sure we had enough friends our own age; the free drinks and socials were amazing and it was super easy to make friends and we were only sharing kitchens with other undergrads. The rooms were really nice and super modern (Powell is a new build, 2018) and there were study rooms on most of the floors, a games room, a computer room, and even a fancy dining room you could book for bigger dinner parties. The Wardens were great and helpful, helping with lock-outs and medical emergencies! There was a little garden and benches outside so you could sit and chill in the summer (so cute!). Powell was a super quick walk to the beach (west sands) but also very near town too, honestly ideal! It had a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and i miss it very much! 10/10 xx
I stayed at Powell during my Masters. I thought it would be quiet and pleasant because it's for post graduate students only, but I was given a room next to a drug dealer who played music on a subwoofer all night. When I complained to the wardens, they would come by to "listen" and "verify" my claims but my neighbour would always turn his music off the moment they came to our building. Later found out he was friends with the wardens. They bullied me and told me I was making it up for six months. Only after going to the university itself did I get moved to another room that had been vacant the entire time. The wardens and staff would also carry out room inspections without warning, or let workmen come in without telling you. I had that happen when I was in the shower. You also have to walk through a dodgy car park after dark to get home. If you are an incoming student DON'T stay there. You can get nice apartments in the nearby towns for far less and the buses are frequent & safe.
