First of all the rooms are small and the kitchens are in very bad conditions. They DO NOT clean the room before students move in, the student before you will be the one who cleans the room. If you have any issues they will take their time to fix it (I have been 2 weeks without light in my bathroom). The wifi signal is comes and goes whenever it wants. Kitchen was already dirty when I arrived and there was noone living there. Laundrette is so expensive and the dryers work very bad (there is only one that works properly). the common area is fine but small compared to the amount of people living here. The staff are nice. The price for living here with these conditions is too high, I would say that it is an abusive one. Luckily I have been here for just one semester, I could not stand living here for the whole year.
First of all the staff are rude, moody and They DO NOT listen to your concerns. The ‘common’ room is just basically where reception is. It’s tiny, crap and there is no social aspect to it whatsoever. Also it is very overpriced for what you get and it is VERY DIRTY. The day when I arrived, the ‘leather’ was all torn off of the sofas and there were massive dents in the windowsill. The flat I am currently in also has an infestation with insects, my flatmate caught one from her room, went to reception and they staff just didn’t care and told us to clean our rooms and they would go away. So the staff won’t act upon any problems you may have with the flat. At the start, our thermostat was broken and they didn’t believe us until I scolded myself in the shower because I couldn’t change the temperature. If we were all adults in this building then the attitude of the staff will be completely on the flip side. Take home message: DO NOT CHOOSE WINN.
Kitchens vary hugely in size. Dreadful internet, nothing in the already basic kitchen works. Drawers in freezer taped together. Window will not close and extractor fan is broken no chance of fix. Absolutely no social aspect to the common area. Room is £30 a week more expensive than mates which have a tv and sofa which actually has some leather left on it available to sit on. Entire halls have a stale smell of bad cooking. Very noisy if not asleep by 2am from people shouting on their way in from nights out. Staff treat paying guests like 5y/o and are extremely incompetent. Fire alarms go off all the time at inconvenient times 4am. Random people let themselves into your room at 7am sometimes to check shower pressure whilst you're sleeping. Only plus is there's an M&S over over the bridge and course nights out are class. Can't have anyone over though because of noise complaints. Look at Liberty Central or The Sheild instead. Both closer to Uni, cheaper and nicer in everyway possible.
Absolutely love it here, the rooms are so modern, well kept and an excellent size, the location is very ideal with a 3 minute walk to the business blocks and 5 minutes into the main hub of the university. We are also right next to a Tesco local which is very useful. The common room is a great size as well
Chamberlain Tower, located at The University of Birmingham, is the most expensive accommodation. For what its worth, it comes with a better laundrette, its own waitered restaurant and views from your apartment which make it feel like a show apartment! Its amazing. However, do you really need this at university? The answer is no. But if you haven't really lived away from home, don't want the constant noise that will wake you up at night, want to live in probably the safest accommodation in my opinion and still want to be in the social hub of university- its for you. A major down/upside to Chamberlain is you have to have meal plan (£50 spend on catered food a week- if you don't spend the full £50, the remaining money will vanish). The food is good, but it can get tiresome eating the same food each week. But its nice coming home and not having to worry about food. Its one of the furthest away (by only 10 minutes) from campus, but it means you get that extra 10 minutes of fitness!
