I loved my course and the teaches/lecturers on it. The course was very basic but you'd expect that from a foundation and It was the second chance I needed after a levels didn't go to plan. I'm now onto the first year of the course and couldn't be happier

Value more money will never be good, given we live in the UK where Higher Education is privatised; nothing you can particularly do about it, so a more general complaint than one directed to UOR specifically. Teaching quality varied rather significantly, with certain lecturers or professors clearly more engaged in their teaching than other. Course content varied with respect to teaching quality, but certain opportunites I cannot complain about (ie. the trip to South Africa, as well as others in the UK and abroad throughout the years). I have seen my Academic Tutor twice, and contacted a few times via email, but that was more due to the nature of his Job (He has a lot of placement out in Africa, so understandably difficult to contact). However, the times when we had met were good. Job prospects seem somehow both varied and limited. Varied in the sense of international demand and should probably always be needed, but limited in the immediate prospects for graduating students. read more

My course is run smoothly and my tutor provides excellent support and advice. The careers team for SBS communicate frequently and provide lots of information on available opportunities, including preparing us to apply for our placements. I particularly love the flexibility of my course, the variety of optional modules for parts 2 and 3 allows us to select modules more suited to what we plan to do after graduation. read more

I love my course! The majority of the teaching has been excellent, with lecturers clearly passionate about the subject. The content is fascinating and well taught, especially the field trips. Being in first year, I am unsure of the job prospects yet but I imagine that the next few years will set me up well for a career. read more

As I started this year by carrying out a foundation year. I found it difficult to enjoy the course content as it was very similar to A Levels. But the teaching quality was better and I felt better knowing next year I have a solid understanding of how the department works and who I can speak to if I need advice. read more

Mixed review due to massive upheaval of my course 3/4 of the way through. Old course was fantastic, new semester system and course restructure has really trashed the academic content sadly. Some fantastic and passionate lecturers in the BioSci dept. still (Louise Johnson, Renee Lee, and Brian Pickles come to mind) but the restructure has put staff in a difficult spot too. Personal tutors as a concept are sorely under-utilized at Reading unfortunately, haven't heard from mine in 2 years! Be aware that with Zoology as a whole subject, employment can be tricky - jobs with nature & animals tend to be low pay and high competition. read more

I enjoy my course because I like the content in general however there is a lack of staff and resources so I feel we dont receive the level of teaching we pay for. There are very few seminars or small group sessions and so I dont feel like I know any of the staff or my personal tutor, however they are improving the tutor system. We have been given hardly any advice on future work and jobs apart from being told to apply for placements and a lot of it is not course specific. Some of the staff are good lectures but they all have too much going on to put their best efforts into teaching and other members of staff are knowledgable but not very good at teaching at all. read more

I think tuition fees are too high but that's a different boat. The teaching is as good as an lecture where you're writing notes. A lot for the time we have to find out deadlines ect via other students which isn't so good. Personal tutor is amazing.
