As a student who spent a year at the University of Birmingham, this century-old red-brick institution has transcended the definition of an "university" and has become the most precious container for my growth in my youth. When I first arrived on campus, the greenery and the Victorian-style buildings immediately captured my heart, and the only underground railway station in the entire UK was an even greater surprise. Academically, the teaching here is both rigorous and inclusive. During my studies, it not only enhanced my academic abilities but also taught me how to collaborate across cultures. The career service center of the university is a "treasure", and I received a lot of help. The one-year study abroad experience at the University of Birmingham not only taught me professional knowledge but also made me independent, brave, and resilient. Here, I met like-minded friends, experienced different cultures, and became clear about my life direction. read more

Choosing the University of Birmingham for Law has been the best decision for my career, as it perfectly combines a prestigious Russell Group reputation with a truly supportive community. The academic experience is rigorous but rewarding, especially with the unique opportunity to apply classroom theories to real-world cases through seminars. I have felt completely supported by the multi-layered guidance system, from the specialised career focus of CEPLER to the consistent mentorship of my Personal Academic Tutor. Life on the beautiful Edgbaston campus is incredibly convenient, offering world-class facilities and a vibrant Students' Union that makes you feel at home instantly. I chose to study at the University of Birmingham because it was one of few universities offering my course - a BA in three modern languages (German, French and Russian in my case). Since starting here, I have loved every minute of it. The staff are passionate, highly knowledgeable (most are active researchers), and supportive. The course is interesting and engaging. The campus is stunningly beautiful. I have also been able to work on campus for the university during my studies which has been a brilliant way to meet new friends across the university. There are many different societies to join and the student body is friendly. I am hoping to stay on and study an MA at the University too. Russian was a new language for me, starting at university. I have been delighted at my progress. The ab initio programme is very supportive, but fast-paced and I have enjoyed every moment. The University of Birmingham offers competitive contact hours for modern languages which is really important. read more

My experience at the University of Birmingham has been extremely positive and rewarding. The campus and facilities are outstanding, modern, well-maintained, and well designed for both studying and leisure. The libraries, study spaces, and digital infrastructure strongly support academic work, especially at postgraduate level. Student life is vibrant and inclusive, with a diverse international community. There are many clubs and societies, making it easy to meet people, pursue interests, and feel part of a community. The Student Guild is a real highlight: it is well organised, supportive, and very active in organising social, cultural, and professional events. Academically, my course (MSc Bioinformatics) has been challenging but highly rewarding. The teaching is research-led, the staff are approachable, and the course provides strong preparation for research and industry careers. The workload can be intense at times, especially initially, but the academic support available makes it mana read more

During my time here so far, I have had a great experience. The moving into accommodation process was simple, being allocated a time slot to move in and helped by student ambassadors. That week, there were events such as a Pizza Party to help settle into university - free to students living in accommodation and a good way to meet people living around you. Course delivery has been of high standard. For each module we start with an introduction lecture which outlines the learning outcomes of the module, how to contact the lecturers and assessment methods so that we know what to expect. Content is presented in a variety of ways such as online textbooks, practical sessions, computer labs, lectures and seminars. Student life here is fun too! There are so many societies to try out - with many taster sessions to try out new things at the beginning of the academic year. The Guild website lists all events for accommodation and all students - so it's easy to find things to go to. read more

I have really enjoyed my time at the University of Birmingham. I gained so much independence when moving away from home in my first year and felt supported by the university in doing so. My course has interesting and well organised content, with experienced lecturers who can provide insight into the profession and guidance. I have been adequately supported in finding clinical placements to further my learning. I have also been encouraged to participate in a variety of social events and societies, which are some of my favourite memories from my time here. There are small aspects of my course that could improve, but overall I have thoroughly enjoyed my almost 4 years studying here! read more
