Loved my time here at Hull, I’m a HYMS student so have also spent time at York Uni and can honestly say Hull’s facilities are much better and I prefer Hull 100%

Fantastic University for Law and aspiring lawyers. The campus, staff and opportunities are all amazing.
It’s been a wonderful experience the university doesn’t always get things right but they always seek to fix any issues. The support I have revived both academic and also professional has been very useful. My lecturers have also been amazing and are ever ready to lend a helping hand
Many facilities available, e.g. mental health and student reps. Staff are friendly and approachable (most). As with everything you have to chase things up to get it done, if not don't leave it until it's too late since it may affect your course/grades. Keep up to date on everything, yet again communication is key.
The University i felt was really convenient, it had great facilities for certain faculties, i think sciences and sports were really exceptional. But it lacked in other faculities like Arts and Humanities. I did my degree in the Arts and Humanities and i felt the teachers were not very knowledge and lacked motivation to produce good lectures and material. One of the heads of Philosophy used to either turn up late, or just with a book. No slides, no prep no HW, no support...just a book and would essentially read to us what we were meant to have read in our own time. Because he assumed noone had read it. If i had read it, then i would spend almost one hour just blankly staring out the window as he slowly read through what i had already read myself.... how exactly is that teaching. Seemed like he literally had been out drinking the night before and just showed up or something. Don't recommend the Arts and Humanities sectors of this uni, other students say the same.
I am 2nd year of PhD course. I love U of Hull so much. This Uni has given me a research knowledge. Graduate school provides you a supportive modules as PhD student should have done.
First year accommodation is very good and affordable.The lecturers at the Law School are excellent. A good balance between academic and social life. Good facilities and most of all a friendly place. Staff are polite and profesional.
Absolute garbage, literally provide barely any help on the courses.
I have just graduated from Hull and I’ve had amazing 4 years! The campus is beautifull, one of a kind where everything is super close, but it is not small at the same time so during your first days you might get lost a bit! Univeristy facilities were ok, nothing extraordinary but everything that you need to succeed! And the library... great! But could have a few more PCs and study rooms to accommodate more groups! I highly recommend joining either a sports club or a society because that’s what made my life at uni unforgettable! A chance to meet some great people and make amazing memories! Most of the lecturers were really good and some of them were exceptionally amazing, very outgoing and really striving to build that personal relationship with students! I believe Hull is a great univeristy, despite the not so great reputation for the city, but you go there to succeed academically and live your great life which I think Hull can provide! ~first class accounting graduate
When I studied in Hull it was 1995. I hope have changed. I was really just a child who arrived with a view to studying and learning, lots of potential, but the whole focus when I arrived was on drinking and partying. I fell into this after struggling to stay away and having it thrust Upon me. It was impossible as so much of the focus is on the student union bars, nightclubs, drinking.its hard to avoid. The university offered no support and students are left to their own devices. I became a mess during my time there. I had no structure, support or direction. I felt the lecturers were arrogant and condescending. They didn’t have an open door policy. I was far from home. It was a shock. Had I had the chance again, I would not study here. Luckily I’ve now worked hard and run and manage my own successful firm. None of this is thanks to Hull Uni.
A great uni to be at, warm and welcoming with a beautiful campus.
Lets start with pros: -The city of Hull is wonderful and filled with wonderful, friendly people. I have friends for life that I made there and I look forward to returning every time I go back -Hull University has a beautiful campus with absolutely excellent facilities. The library is fantastic and I loved working there. -The area around the Uni is almost custom made for students. It is filled with shops, restaurants, coffee shops, barbers, fast food places and anything else you might need. -Very easy route to the city centre from campus Now the cons: - I did Mechanical Engineering and the department were almost universally hated by almost my entire year. Disorganised, absolutely useless at communicating with students, very poor quality of notes and we received very little help from the Science Hub. -The Union claim to care about your mental health; they don't. They are useless and I often had to go through 7/8 different contacts to sort my problem. They have absolutely no clue.
I have had the best time so far. Of course we all have our ups and downs but university made me grow as a person and also realise what it is I actually want to do. I started off studying politics and international relations but now study geology (my original plan - there were a few reasons why i couldnt). After considering leaving university, the Geology / Geography department allowed me to finish off the rest of my first year as a science foundation year. Im honestly so grateful for this opportunity and the university were amazing at helping me through the process. The facilities here are great and the union has a vast range of societies. I didnt really participate this year as I just wanted to settle in and find my feet. As I start my first year of Geology, I will definitely join a few clubs!
A surprisingly good university despite the reputation that Hull sometimes has!!
Asylum is an amazing nightclub, highly recommend joining a society as they have socials that go there every wednesday. I personally didn't join any but I know plenty of people who did, and it looks like a good time. Uni gym is huge, although a private gym might be better and cheaper, depending how into working out you are. Campus wifi is brilliant.
The library is not for Computer Science students, you cannot work for c++ in the library, and in the laboratories is very cold. Lots of technical problems with their server and installed software, sometimes your grades can be affected by that. :(
Everything is great apart from the timetables, if you're travelling into uni, rather than living there, i strongly suggest looking into your contact time etc because the way they have chosen to timetable lectures/tutorials/seminars this year is mindboggling.
I applied to study Adult Nursing after having worked as a care assistant without having had any sickness absence and was already educated to postgraduate level. I left my job and put my house on the market after my offer status was changed to unconditional. However, the Head of Admissions Service rescinded my offer, thus preventing me from taking up a place at my insurance university (De Montfort), where I had obtained occupational health clearance and no reasonable adjustments were deemed to have been necessary. Evidence of how disrespectful and unkind that the university's staff are to disabled applicants was that they sent me the e-mails that were being sent to students who had been allowed to commence the course. The university's reason for rescinding my offer was, 'he was unable on the currently available medical information to offer a health opinion upon your medical fitness to commence student nurse training'- it was his responsibility to obtain what he required!
Loved being at Hull, couldn't imagine myself anywhere else.
The University of Hull was one of the best choices I made. I started off doing psychology but when I found it was not for me they helped me change courses within a week.
one of the worse decisions I ever made was to go there. the staff are non professional, the whole approach on complaints and procedures are just non existent. they treat people as test dummies for new schemes which ruins your actual learning of the subject. you are off more than you are actually there to study. My advice is to find somewhere else, STAY WELL CLEAR OF THIS PLACE !!! #SOCIAL SCIENCES
The Department of Computer Science at the University of Hull is horrible and has some of the UNFRIENDLIEST, CONDESCENDING and downright RUDE people I have ever met.
Initially I thought coming here would be a big mistake but so far the university itself is good. It may not have the prestige of some of the Russell group uni's but is good if you want to focus on your studies and have a good time. That said, if there was anything to improve I would have an emphasis on the University finding more opportunities for students across all fields. And it seems like the staff don't care about improving the reputation of the University tbh.
Really need more computers in the library as they are always in use from 11-4.
Could not see myself anywhere else!

A lot of societies with a lot of different groups of people, something for everyone. The union is helpful and offers a lot of services and the union bar is a good place for kareoke etc
Keysurf really needs to be sorted out before all the students throw the library computers out of the 1000 pound windows

Lots of opportunities to get involved, large range of good quality services
Internet and library are good, though sometimes all the computers are taken up. Lots of societies, but the union is a bit uncoordinated and most were elected to their positions (including president) with no opposition.
Every club/society you can think of and if they haven't got one you want, you can start your own! There are loads of places to eat/drink on campus, it's so easy to grab a sandwich between lectures or plan to meet all your friends for pub food and a pint at the end of the day in Sanc. Any books/stationary/food to cook at home/clothing etc. Can all be found at the union shop or water stones upstairs which is really useful and saves you having to get the bus to the shops on the way home. Careers service are really useful, they provide loads of help not only with advice on career pathways but help and templates for writing CV's, how to market yourself etc. Wifi on campus always works, perfect if you want to use a device for lectures rather than a notepad and pen - I prefer to do this as I get the PowerPoints up and make notes below, saves loads of time trying to link what you've written to a slide when you're revising. Library - amazing! Such a good atmosphere for chilling and doing work!
WiFi is fast and reliable everywhere. Sports teams and societies are fantastic! They really make up the best times I've had at the uni so far. The campus and union are brilliant and supply everything you need.

A little hidden gem in a s**** area, it's so underrated but it really is a lovely place to be and study
Generally awesome but with a couple of grating flaws like the Internet.
The academics in the Science & Technology department are very good, personal supervisors are too.
Fantastic place to study! So welcoming and supportive throughout your time when you need it but allows full independence! Loved my time here! So many opportunities offered! Careers were all very friendly however careers advice after uni when graduates are struggling could be improved as I felt like they only cared about knowing where I was for the league tables rather than actually helping me out.
I'm in second year now, Hull University is really underrated!
The university had been great, I have the support of the academics who are very willing to help if you just ask.

The university it's self is pretty good, loads of places to sit and the WiFis alright although our lectures have been away more than they've been here...
Overall, it's been good so far
Hull; as a university it shows aspects of being very good. However; Hull as a city shows aspects of being like that place from one of the early Harry Potter movies when he's stood in the Weasley's fire place and accidentally says Diagonally as opposed Diagon Alley.

The University of Hull have great facilities for example the library. Wifi is fast. Students union has good food and is run by friendly people. The campus has it all in one so the walk from one side is not too far. Overall great uni.

So far this semester I've had an amazing experience at university. With friendly students and staff that support you in every way possible, it is definitely the best university to attend!
Poor. Support for mature students is zero. There is a serious problem with subjects being retaught over and over again. There is little or no support for those representing the uni for minority sports, all the money gets spent on rugby n football. I risk life n limb in my sport and receive zero help or support. I would not recommend this uni to any mature students
Honestly such a pleasant surprise! I'm very proud of the university. Sadly people overlook it because of archaic premonitions of Hull as a city. However, the university really doesn't reflect any negativity thrown at Hull. It's a beautiful place to study, the academic lecturers are very passionate about the particular field they specialise in!

Hull was the best choice I ever made! I have met the most amazing people (students and lecturers) and i gained the skills to go out and get a graduate job straight away!
There is a vast array of societies and sports teams to join. The union has everything you could need, including a nightclub and 2 bars. Can't fault it really.
Wifi should be better for what we are paying per year.

Very social university that offers many courses in a variety of subjects, the new Brynmor Jones Library (?) always has the information you need for essays/exams.

A last minute decision meant I ended up at Hull, with no idea what to expect. Turned out to be the best 3 years of my life, and I'm moving back next year! There's an atmosphere here of genuine friendliness, probably because there are no snobby pretences. Everyone is equal when you get to Hull, it doesn't matter where you've come from before.
University, you cant knock it. Reputation is solid, the cost of living though is soooo much cheaper than anywhere else in the UK. You can live well for a student. I graduated with a first in Engineering, a few years later on a 6 figure salary in the city (Lloyds of London). So the reputation is very strong. Plus if your in an interview with a ton of robotic Oxbridge students, and when asked "why did you pick your university" and your answer it "beer prices were cheaper" you get a chuckle, and come across as human. Hull is just that, you get the degree, its not easy, but you also have some banter and ability to communicate. That's what makes Hull folks unique. Best university experience ever. Wouldn't change the degree.

Great place to learn and grow as an individual. Countless opportunities to get involved with sport and other union clubs. Large campus university with a great community vibe. And you never get bored!

Lovely uni. I feel like I'm getting enough support, the workload is interesting and manageable and the campus is small and homely. Library's great! I've got so much more involved than I would have done if I'd gone to a bigger university.

Studying at the university of hull is amazing. My experience so far has been really good. There alot of places for students to hang out near the university and the support available is great. I've met alot of people in my course and outside and everyone is very friendly. I'm loving studying here and would recommend anyone to study here.
A brilliant campus and amazing new library! Good societies, brilliant lectures for BA Marketing. I graduated with a 1st in 2014 and can honestly say there is nowhere I would rather have gone to uni. Brilliant. Big shout out to business school lecturers Peter Andrews and Haseeb Shabbir, they really helped me get a grade I never thought I would.
As much as i loved my time at university, i dont think i ever saw my £9,000 going to good use. I dont know if it was just my course (Psychology) but the lectures were boring and pointless, to be honest i could have done the work at home just as easily. The lecturers themselves were alright, apart from a few, not mentioning any names but my 3rd year supervisor was rediculously unhelpful, I truely believe that if i have had a more supportive supervisor i wouldnt have got the grade i got in my dissertation (because to be honest, my dissertation, although was not incrediable, did not deserve the grade i got) Just one more thing also, in my first year i lived in student houses, on Cranbrooke Avenue, i wouldnt let a pig live there, they were disgusting. All in all and alright Uni i guess
I love this University. It is one of the very few Universities in UK that has an integrated campus. They recently completed a brand new state of art library yet maintaining their original structure. Wifi connection is super fast and you can walk around the whole campus with same password without breaking the connection. The cost of living in Hull is very reasonable. Wanna congratulate Hull City for securing the City of Culture status.

hull is full of amazing people and amazing venues, everyone is up for a good time and socially it is easy to get to know everyone and find good parties
I graduated in Business and Marketing in 2014. Highest standards in all fields and a very international environment make this university/business school to one of the best ones in the UK and Europe. I would describe the preparation for my postgraduated and the labour market as excellent. I do not want to miss this academic and personal experience.

Hull is a hidden gem of a uni, there are many of social opportunities, good nightclubs, really fun sports teams. The campus is really nice, with only the odd ugly building but most of them are really nice like the business school. Everyone is friendly and as an american studies student the professors are really good and the course has such good module options.
Great university that has provided me with everything i needed so far. The new business school has great facilities and the library always seems to have space available, even during the peak exam periods! Havent really joined that many societies but from what i heard from friends, they seem to be pretty good.
