I love this degree from the array of crossover with other disciplines to the field school to the lack of formal exams. I really enjoy this course and all that it has offered.

Classics, BA Hons FullTime

Surprisingly enough job prospects, although not the same as a more practical course like economics or business. Lecturers are always top notch, very keen to help you. Perhaps there could've been more content regarding the philosophy during that age, but otherwise everything is complete. read more

The best archaeology department in the country, all of the lecturers were engaged in their own projects as well as teaching to high standards. There are multiple opportunities to be involved in extra curricular projects. Cannot reccomend highly enough. read more

Ancient History and Archaeology with Professional Placement, BA Hons FullTime

For reference - I did an Archaeology BA with professional placement, not joint with ancient history, but that wasn’t an option on the drop down list here! However, I truly think the archaeology department at Reading is something special, and would choose to study archaeology here over more “prestigious” universities any day. The department is full of highly respected and knowledgable archaeologists in their field, and go out of their way for students to ensure you are getting the most out of this degree. There are so many opportunities for hands on work through placements and volunteering on digs run by lecturers, which put me in a great position upon leaving in terms of experience. The course content is varied (though not enough prehistory for my liking!) and always engaging. Support for assignments is great, with leacturers often offering to meet at your convenience to talk through any worries. I feel like this course left me wholly prepared for professional archaeology read more

Ancient History and History, BA Hons FullTime

Emma is a legend. I mean worth doing Ancient History just to be lectured by her, never met so great a lecturer. The rest are decent enough, and the course it's self is very interesting. However having half a term of Art History made me want to die, as in I would of preferred to be one of the cadavers Da Vinci dissected then ever have to study art history again. Worse thing is it was a compulsory module, so no escape from the utter soul destroying boredom which is an art history lecture. On the bright side at least that's done forever. The only issue is that due to being joint honours I only had one optional module, and due to having to balance the credits of my degree I couldn't take an optional module in History, but rather I had to take a university wide one or one in the school of classics. Being an idiot I took Latin and I now hate my life. read more

Unfortunately, most of my course had little choice in first and second year and almost all my third year modules have been cut. Beware of the fact that most students can't select their own modules at the moment as the department is struggling under the weight of numbers and cuts to staff. read more
