This course is a joke. The lecturers just mainly read off Microsoft PowerPoints, especially in the later years. There are very few practical elements, you are mainly required to do maths all the time, never really applying your knowledge to a practical, real-life product. As for the exams, you can easily pass them by memorising the content, and "learning the recipe" for the mathematical based questions. In fact, you don't even need to know what you're doing, or why you're doing it, you just need to replicate what the lecturer did on the PowerPoint. It seems so fake and empty, as if all they care about is the vast sums of money you give them. I do not recommend this university for Mechanical Engineering. Go somewhere better, a place where you actually do some practical work and see engineering in-action; instead of looking at words and equations on a PowerPoint. read more

Do not waste your time attending this course. While the University has an excellent reputation this is used to widely cover up for the excuse that is mech eng. The lectures are horrible, overcomplicating and badly delivering a course not delivering clear outcomes leaving you confused for what content the examination covers. The coursework is often tedious and pointless adding to the stress of extremely disorganised labs or tutorials where even the PHD students delivering them are unsure about what to do. Main campus is nice to be on however all engineering students are placed on ‘north campus’ which is extremely outdated and will take more time to reach from halls. Lecturer support and accountability can be minimal making for this course to be extremely unjust if the lecturer desides and straining at times. Prospects seem similar to other universities. Would not recommend course. read more

Mechanical Engineering, BEng Hons FullTime

There isno job prospect for international even national students. The university does not listen to the students feedback. What matters for them is grants, research money, and their ranks in THE or QE without emphasizing on teaching or PhD supervision. The research-baded students are under stresses and if you tell your idea, they will finish your PhD with major corrections or even mPhil. The supervisors are not listening to your ideas. Poor university with high ranking only because of its collaboration with Chinese universities. Very poor. read more

Mechanical Engineering is not an easy course, even though the professors make it seem that way. In just one lecture they have sufficiently explain principles which would have taken me hours to read myself. They also use many examples in their lectures, such that you could also see the use of what you are learning. read more
