My experience here has been positive. Communal areas are cleaned regularly - I haven't used the social spaces due to COVID but from what I've seen they are good. Location is perfect for town and access to train station. Staff have been nothing but helpful - I had some teething issues with internet but staff have bent over backwards to resolve this for me. Having my own space is ideal and have already renewed for next year. Happy with my decision to move into this property.
For someone looking for one-person "studio flat" accommodation near Plymouth University, CPS is the best value-for-money I'm personally aware of. The location's perfect: barely a 10 minute walk to get to the University campus. My flat was spacious and easy to maintain. I only needed my own microwave, bin and internet router to have it fully equipped. The building's Wi-fi was fine. A room cleaning service was offered for an optional fee, though I didn't use it. There was a communal lounge on the second floor, though I didn't use that either as it was all one room, and I felt I'd get better privacy inviting friends directly to my flat. My flat has a handy remote security system where I could let people into the building using the flat's telephone. Staff who worked in the reception room were really nice and I felt I could easily go and talk to them at any time. My only criticism is that my flat got far too hot during summer months, and opening the window didn't help much.
This property is definitely a good option for students to turn to. The rooms are affordable, the location is ideal (10 minutes away from the university campus, 4 minutes from nearby convenient stores, etc), and the property management, cleaning and internet is pretty high quality. Would definitely recommend this property.
Being able to have a studio flat will all the facilities I need to myself and at a low cost is literally the best thing. Better value for money than anywhere else that I've seen. The staff are really nice and always happy to help. It's always clean and tidy around the building and well maintained. There is an app where you can log maintenance issues with your flat where a contractor will be booked to come fix your issue.
YOU DON'T GET KEYS! Yo have a key card and unlike most, like at a hotel, if it touches anything electrical, even briefly, you pay £10-20 for the staff to swipe your card on a machine to reactivate it. If it touches your phone after 10pm, you will have to stand outside your room for about an hour and PAY £30-50 for someone to come and reactivate it. Together, it could COST YOU UP TO £70! Avoiding this is harder than you think. Even if the card come close to something electrical, like if you stand next to someone and they have a phone in their pocket near where your card is kept, this could deactivate it. The building manager also THREW MY BED OUT without warning or notification. It was in the hall when I was moving, so they put it with the bins. THERE'S NO SIGNAL. I could only get phone signal next to my window. It's completely blocked throughout the building, including in the communal room. THEY THROW OUT POST if the person's moved. DON'T EXPECT TO GET YOUR POST FORWARDED if you move!
Lived here for two years, in two different flats as I wasn’t told that the first flat I was in had been let out for this year. I pay £85 a week but to be honest it’s not worth that. When you see the show room you get told that the kitchen comes as you see it there, but don’t expect to see a toaster, microwave or kettle when you move in. There are loads of silverfish and although they aren’t harmful, it’s a bit gross to walk into the bathroom in the morning to see bugs running around the floor. Building management hasn’t been great but is improving now it’s run by smeaton homes. It did take three months to get WiFi in my flat though and that only happened because I sent an angry email. The doors have a stupid keycard which deactivated if it goes near anything that gives off a signal and to get into the building there is a dodgy fingerprint scanner that’s positioned so that in the summer you burn yourself and in winter it doesn’t work as it’s wet. Would consider other places before here.
was there for three years, great for study. i wouldnt get a room near the social area as the floor creaks. gets lonely if you dont form a group on neither course nor accom. that was probably my fault though, just saying living alone u gotta make more effort socially. 3 yrs mostly alone will drive u mad and effect study. janitor guy is kind, staff are nice but a bit distant. dont attract/bother young locals as they can sneak in and set off the alarm. talk to the volunteer fire warden too and cheer them up, or they might quit and you will have hours and hours of alarms. social area is very small, nobody really uses it unless arranged in a group for predrinks. if u are lonely like i was u will go there and sit alone with beer and get more depressed, and ppl will wonder why ur alone and weird. also, sometimes it is used for drugs. someone effing smoked heroin in there near me. keep ur wits about u and get outta that situation. right near a small shop and good place to go on runs.
The best value for money option. I paid £85 weekly for a modest studio with included internet (60mb wireless, 150mb wired) and bills, cheaper than shared! Rear flats have slight ambient train noise, about 45 decibels average. Any maintenance needs are dealt with impressively quickly. The staff have been friendly and helpful. Out of hours service is poor, keep keycard in the provided protective shielding and you'll be fine most likely. Communal areas remained clean well, messes never are kept long. The social environment is pretty dead, the 'gaming area' is a lie, remains permanently locked year-round. Minor silverfish infestation like most student accommodation. Maintenance staff are friendly but are known to enter the same day as maintenance requests are made without warning, they obviously knock and provide long advance warning for any other entrance. The Internet presently is stable, past reviews are outdated, network improvement occurred which helped a lot with stability.
Lived here for 2 years, don't recommend it. Silverfish infestation, they were in every room and even in the wardrobe. The internet goes down constantly, and the staff can get rude for no reason. They look for anything to try and nick your deposit, you'd think the staff get a cut of the deposit themselves.
Used to live there for 2 years. The only reason is the space which is indeed one of the most generous accommodations near campus especially those on the top floor. I was quite lucky, washer and other facilities hadn't gone wrong through my living (although the lift does). But still suffered from issues like silver fish and staff's unreasonable bad attitude. Sometimes really feel CPT is an asylum for silver fish, and the workers are employed to serve, not residents, but silver fish; then it makes sense why they can only see your deposit and make spiel when you talk about infestation of insects (ladybirds in certain season as well).
Your keycard needed to get into your room doesnt work if it goes anywhere near your phone or bank card. If this happens and you are locked out due to recent changes you have to now pay £35 to have some one come open your door and another £5 for new keycard. You must give over your fingerprint to get into the building in the first place. The thumb scanner doesnt work properly in the rain so u can get stuck outside. This place is run like a prison was so happy when i left. Also ive seen other bad reviews the only response from the manager is they didnt live here. Well i did and regret it. Dont make the same mistake dont come here find a house share in a student house dont live in a prison system here.
Shortly before the beginning of summer, the year before I started living here at CPT I visited the place and saw a show room - The show room itself had a few holes in cabinets where it'd rotted away, but was generally clean. We were told any issues like this would be cleaned up before we began living here and I foolishly, believed them. I paid my deposit, was told I would receive my contract shortly and thought nothing of it, continuing my year at university. During the summer, I started to get concerned as I had still not received my contract- I emailed them repeatedly, tried to call their office and warden, and finally their facebook page - Which has been unused since 2017. They eventually got back to me shortly before Semester one, as they do not as far as I can tell work during the summer. This experience is indicitive of living here; They're unavailable on weekends, the internet is down constantly and my washing machine has been broken since the beginning of the year.
I had a very mixed experience with this Accomodation. Pros: - Room upgrade to nicer furniture after noise complaint - Make sure you request room with actual bed! - No (frequent) problems with kitchen or bathroom appliances, washing machine would occasionally not work but fixed quickly - deposit returned quickly Cons: - Silver fish - Noise! Super thin walls with couple next to me having sex three times a day and loud parties until 3 am almost every night - you can hear everything in this building - Management: Employees don't start caring until you threaten them with lawyers - Wardens: Absolute joke. Like previous commenters I was told to go knock on doors myself => Too expensive for what you get. Look for a nice private flat for the same (or cheaper price). Right now I live in a private brandnew 1BR flat for 480 Pounds a month.
It's cheap as dirt so I wasn't expecting much. But within the first week we noticed that there was a serious silverfish infestation, it was mostly in our bathroom. From the first week I reported that the fridge interior compartment was broken, the repairman came round the next day, I was not given a time, thankfully I was up and decent when he arrived as I hadn't heard him knock and he entered anyway. The method of repair he used speaks for the whole living experience here, shoddy, temporary and bound to reoccur. My washing machine has never worked despite me reporting it twice to management and to the repairman himself. The internet is the worst thing about this place, on the rare occasion it works it is slow and when it goes down it is down for minimum 6 hours at a time. I am a third year student trying to do my dissertation, not ideal. Since I'm paying a wi-fi bill to them I'd like it if I received wi-fi. There are many more issues. Check the top review for more. DONT LIVE HERE.
My Studio flat overlooks Central Park and is nice and quiet, the room is spacious with a lovely bathroom kitchen and study/lounge. I So any mess is my mess and not room mates! So much better than a house share or halls
I am a mature student with a mental health disability. I moved in September 2017 with a private landlord. I realised instantly there was a serious silver fish infestation. Every morning I woke to find 2 or 3 in the bathroom/kitchen, often on work surfaces/in the basin. Many of the flats have a serious mould issue. At the back of the building the trains can be loud but at the front so are the other tenants. They are outside smoking (often times marijuana) and extremely loud until 3-4am. The management team in the office, and the wardens do not act on this. My landlord did nothing about water leaks and maintenance of the flat. The kitchen units are rotten and falling apart. Management also organise every flat to be checked regularly for electrical faults, but will not inform you. Be prepared for someone to enter without knocking at any point between 8am and 5pm. Overall, the management and maintenance of the flats and this building are disgusting. I would advise you find somewhere else.
I can only agree with the writer below me! The management of these flats is terrible. They do not take care of any issues The wardens are completely useless and rude even if there are loud parties at three in the morning and the management doesn't care about it either.
To be honest I do not have many good things to say about this place. It probably depends who your landlord is and the location of your flat. The official landlord Tower Lettings is an absolute nightmare. They are rude and unhelpful. The rooms are alright but you can hear every one of your neighbors steps. Needs refurbishing really badly. Also, the building is full of people from the middle east who like to party and smoke in their rooms which will travel up to your window if you are unlucky. The bed is awful. Very uncomfortable. The washing machine is insanely loud and you can hear it when someone three floors above you is washing. Also, the internet is terrible. Ive had days where I had to go to the library at night because I could not do any kind of work. Way too expensive for what you are getting. For that price you can get your own little studio from a private landlord who will treat you like an actual person.
I have been living here for the past 4 years (did a year in industry). I absolutely love it! it's so much better than any other halls that I looked at. I got so much more than what other people got and for much cheaper. If you look on the CPT website you will see the rooms are spacious, the kitchen and bathroom are really nice and the facilities are just outstanding in comparison to other hall rooms that are of a similar price. Beware! I wouldn't say there is much opportunity to socialise since this is a studio, but if you are a hermit (like me), this is your dream come true !
The place is ok. But wow the wardens. I am not sure what they are getting paid for. I had to call them twice so far because of a super loud party in the middle of the night. Both times they told me to knock on doors myself to figure out where the noise is coming from. Right because I will totally wander through the complex at 1 am knocking on doors when I am paying almost 500 Pounds a month for a room.
The space is great, bed is horrible, had to invest in a mattress topper because after a month of sleeping on a sofa bed really takes its toll. Secondly, there are silver fish( tiny insects- google it) which are always all over the place, personally my flat was very clean however there's no use trying to keep them out with cleanliness when your neighbor next door is a slob. I believe the maintenance was always good and my problems were always sorted on the day. The fire alarm is always going off and sometimes takes ages to turn off so you're standing outside for quite some time...sometimes at 2am. The wifi might aswell not be there went through two routers and ended up just using the Ethernet which isn't that great either. The common room is always a state aswell, and was frequently shut off to students because of that, on the other hand my room was always great for hosting it's the perfect size to accommodate a few people.
~Cosy, secure and close to town - great price, flexible pricing and summer options and super friendly staff :) Just what i wanted after finding it difficult in my cluster halls, my own space but with space to meet friends when relaxing.
Felt very lonely living here, I found it difficult to sleep as it can get noisy being so close to the train station and the bed was extremely uncomfortable. However the flat was generally nice and it was relatively close to town and uni
-- VALUE FOR MONEY -- For £119 p/w, CPT offers homely studio flats that are surprisingly large. However, there are some notable issues - primarily that the kitchen cupboards have next to zero storage space! Few fire alarms so far. -- LOCATION -- If you don't mind a little walking, you're very close to everything you need to be in the city. -- MANAGEMENT -- Nice people, but rarely seem to actually follow up on reported problems. -- CLEANING -- Can't fault it. The cleaner's in every day and does a good job. -- SOCIAL -- There seems to ALWAYS be people in the common room. If you put the effort in to go and be a part of the community here, the social experience is great. Decent common room. If you have your own games console, the Games Room isn't even worth looking at. There's only room on the sofa for about three people tops. -- WIFI -- Fast enough for streaming, gaming and large downloads, but occasionally cuts out or slows down to unusable speeds.
