Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

My accommodation is great and so is my flat/flat mates. Just no social space or common room to meet more student village or even quantock residents
Loved it so much it was excellent
Its handy because its on campus. Staff are friendly and there is 24/security. Are responsible for your own cleaning so fingers crossed you get put with tidy people!
Pretty much what you pay for, nice but basic, all you need really. Maintenance people were always friendly.
I loved my experience in halls, I made good friends and the location was very convenient
Expensive but tbf all halls are. They are reasonably new halls and so very clean. Very fun to live in. Good location as they are on campus and also 3 minute walk to the bus stops and taxi rank.
Amazing honestly it’s just amazing. I wouldn’t want to be in any other court either. Quantock is so closed off and it feels like a little community.
A great introduction to the student life at university with facilities to support students beyond the curriculum. Great way to adjust to university life!
I was a victim of bullying by a flatmate here. I took it straight to the student village accommodation services, and nothing has been done about it. Absolutely appalling. Horrendous value for money as it is incredibly expensive, and you do not receive much for the price in comparison to other university halls; some of which are well under £100 per week. Would not recommend to anyone.
Common room very much like a doctors waiting room and sterile , badly designed rooms radiator below window so when it's on it doesn't warm the room up at all. Bedrooms are good size, unsuite is small and gets very damp. Bin men come every morning between 5-6 get woken up every time. Expensive for what they are.
The internet is the only downside really.
The building and area was good but way to expensive for what you get probably about £100 a month more than other universities who provide the same or maybe better.
Everything gets 5/5 except the value. You're paying almost the same prices as London and it's not even in the city centre! However, they are very modern and safe.
Great for spying on people and seeing friends
