When applying for University of Surrey, I was worried about how diverse the university would be. However those worries vanished as soon as I stepped onto campus, seeing students from all different backgrounds. Walking into a diverse and inclusive campus made me feel more welcome and reassured about spending the next three years of my life here. There are many different societies that cater to so many different interests and hobbies, all very welcoming when I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and try a new hobby. read more

I genuinely thought I’d spend my final year out and about, but Unilife Riverside became somewhere I actually wanted to stay. The building has a fantastic atmosphere, great facilities, and it really feels like a community. The events, especially the go-karting organised by Jasmin using students’ suggestions, were a highlight and made it so easy to meet people. Jasmin is honestly the heart of the building. She listens, genuinely cares about every resident, and always goes the extra mile to make life better for everyone. She creates an environment where you feel valued rather than just another tenant, and that made a huge difference to my university experience. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to spend my final year. Also, a huge thank you to Louisa, Lewis and Chantelle for all the laughs, conversations and memories along the way, you all played a part in making Unilife feel like home. read more

The wifi is really good on campus and there is a good library and cafes for studying. The student union should be organised better and should process complaints more effectively. I like the range of clubs and societies but some of them get a smaller budget than others would could be seen as quite unfair. read more

As an international student, I arrived here with many hopes and dreams. I came to pursue my goals, build my academic journey, and create a pathway towards my future career. When I first stepped onto the University of Surrey campus, I genuinely felt like I was living a dream. One of the things that immediately captured my heart was the beautiful environment of the university. The green hills, abundant greenery, trees, and plants created a peaceful atmosphere. The many quiet seating areas gave me space to reflect on my journey, remember my home country, and think about the dreams I came here to achieve. I have also truly enjoyed my classes and my programme. Surrey’s multicultural environment makes it a unique place where students from different cultures and backgrounds come together. The university celebrates diversity through events such as Pancake Day, religious festivals, and various clubs and societies. The religious clubs have also supported my spiritual wellbeing. read more

I had high expectations for this university because of all the good things that people say about it, but have been left very disappointed. Most of the lecturers are not dedicated to their jobs, do not care about their students, and put the bare minimum effort into teaching. After every lecture, you have to go home and teach yourself, with a small number of exceptions. The careers advice that I have received during my time at Surrey has almost always been bad advice that completely contradicts what I have heard from people in the industry I am trying to get into. Do not take career advice from academics unless you are pursuing a career in academia. Most of the societies do not have many activities and ignored me when I tried to join through the students union website. Most of the events organised by the students union are completely uninteresting and not worth going to. Contrary to what some of the other negative reviews say, Guildford is beautiful and there is lots to do here. read more

AVOID this company. They unreasonably cancelled my legally binding tenancy agreement despite my booking being fully completed — deposit paid, guarantor approved, and my portal showing everything as "completed." When I asked them to point to the specific clause in the contract that permitted them to cancel under these circumstances, they failed to provide one. To make matters worse, I was told my deposit had been refunded. It never was, and they failed to provide any receipt or evidence of the refund when I asked. If you're considering booking with this company, be aware that their communication and cancellation processes are seriously unreliable. You could lose your accommodation, and be left facing homelessness, with almost no real warning. read more

Accommodation Getting settled was straightforward thanks to the first-year accommodation guarantee for international students. The rooms are practical and well-maintained, with most offering shared kitchen facilities (though there are studio options over at Manor Park). Having personal belongings insurance and Wi-Fi included in the rent takes a lot of the stress out of moving to a new country. Studies The academic environment is rigorous but incredibly rewarding. The MSc Cybersecurity program strikes a great balance between theoretical concepts and hands-on, practical application. The faculty support is a major standout — my personal academic tutor, Dragan, has been consistently accessible and genuinely invested in my progress. The program structure gives you the freedom to explore cutting-edge topics, which has been invaluable while working on my dissertation regarding adversarial attacks on large language models. There is a wide variety of clubs and societies to get involved in, making it easy to meet new people while exploring new interests and hobbies. The Students' Union is welcoming, well-organised, and plays a huge role in student life by providing support, hosting events, and creating a real sense of community. The careers team is incredibly helpful and provides excellent support with placements, CVs, applications, interviews, and preparing for graduate careers.
