I love my course as most the teaching staff are engaging and extremely specialised. My only complaint is that we have just been told that next year optional modules have to have a minimum of 16 people to get put on. This is really problematic for small departments such as Russian as it pretty much takes away most of our options read more

French language teaching is pretty good. Russian is less so, but the course is interesting. Dutch is fabulous and interestingly Luxumbourgish is available, along with other nieche languages such as Catalan, Czech, and Portuguese. You can learn up to 3 languages from a range of about 9 which is a plus. Passionate teaching staff across the board. Like many places, the department is outdated and underfunded though. Teaching spaces are outside of the department itself in other blocks nearby and there is no Language Lab IT suite, nor languages hub where you can meet other students unless you sit in the cafe or can use the post grad spaces. Research led curriculum is full of interesting information that you probably won't find on the internet so some gems, if the modules suit your interests. SU societies are hit or miss for languages, depends on the year. There is usually a weekly speaking group for main languages though, and most years a play in each language. read more

The Korean teachers go above and beyond to provide excellent teaching. The classes are engaging and enriching. It is very much a course where you get out what you put in. The music staff are friendly and interesting. The module choice for music is slightly limited and made slightly awkward by the fact you have to do a year abroad. read more
