Oxford is very Overwhelming. The work load is condensed into just 24 weeks of the year and tutorials are limited. Many of the students at Oxford are quite pretentious or performative and it's easy to suffer from imposter syndrome. This can make for a lonely and frightening experience. Colleges try to overcome this through Fresher's Week events, presentations and posters informing students of the support available. However, this is all rather artificial and assumes that students already know how to make friends as an adult, how to figure out what they enjoy doing and have the courage to ask for help. This is a problem with universities generally and society as a whole, but it says a lot when even an institution as highly-esteemed as Oxford can't offer solutions here. Communities exist to help students who feel lost, such as societies for neurodiverse students, but these tend to be victimising rather than empowering. We need an environment where people can fearlessly be themselves. read more

Help is very accessible and the careers service is incredibly useful and there is a lot to take advantage of from free online courses to exclusive opportunities such as internships. Not much to say that you can't see elsewhere - you go to Oxford for the Oxford experience (beautiful libraries, etc.) and so that's why campus/facilities/careers are so good. The societies are great - college sports teams are a great way of getting to know people. The SU is pretty much non-existent - a lot of people join the Oxford Union instead, but that's ridiculously expensive and probably not worth it. read more

Great academic facilities but poor sporting ones. University sports pitches are poorly maintained and sports centre is not in good shape considering it's a very expensive membership and the general public also use it. read more
