Criminology, BA Hons FullTime

Overall, the course itself is alright, but I'm studying Criminology and instead of crime related stuff I learn more about people's social problems or stuff about ethnicity, which is fine, but it's mostly sociology related stuff, which isn't very interesting, and one of the teachers always asks us to go and stand up for ages or to move seats way too much, and it happens in the middle of the class too, not at the start, especially when everyone is already all comfortably situated in their places, not only that but one of the modules, I find to be a bit useless, it's about career planning, I already had an idea of what I wanted to do, and I didn't want to spend my time doing stuff that wasn't very helpful for me. read more

Again, unfortunately because of the national lockdowns I was unable to get the full university experience, but never the less, in context of that I believe that my course and many of its teachers did their best to accommodate me and my peers and encourage a healthy and safe learning space. read more

You learn about many different jobs you could go into with the course, really broadens your mind to the possibilities. Lots of optional modules in second and third year to tailor the course to you. It finishes quite early in the year (early April) even thought we’re paying the same amount as people whose courses stretch on till June, and there are only 2 personal tutor meetings a year in first and second year, and even then they are with a large group of others, so you don’t get one-to-one discussion with them. read more

Went in through clearing, ended up changing courses because it was a waste of time and mentally draining. Wishing to learn about crime and how to tackle it but ending up doing a year long course on research methods and sociology is a fantastic shot back to reality. I know someone who works as a prison officer and he doesn't have a degree, so saying that a prison officer is the best job to get with the degree is misleading and taking the piss. Had a decent personal tutor but he left halfway through the year to work at a respectable university. Lectures were just plain cringeworthy at points, I shouldn't have a lecturer tell me in full confidence that racism 'shouldn't exist because we're all one race, the human race.' I can read that on any 13 year old tumblr blog. I don't expect it from someone who is meant to be respected in that particular field. read more
